Section Two: Small Encounters

"Then I'll get you something you need. You guys should keep up the good work."

That's what Toslin said, and he took Mr. Rose out of the room. Me and Carol are left indoors, packing their respective bags. That said, my baggage isn't that much. If you take a few points of dressing, that will be enough.

"Hey, Carol. I wonder if there's anything else I might need."

When I did, Carol sat in front of the fireplace with the same degree of support.

"Mm-hmm. Isn't that all right? Just get dressed and equipped, and the Toslins will be ready for you."

Even when it comes to equipment, it's just a bookstore daughter. What I have is one short sword brought to me for protection by my parents and an old, larger sized, skinned armor. I don't know about daggers, I just said I have them, when I couldn't use them at all, so I don't even feel like I'm just adding more baggage the other way around.

"You like it so much, it"

That's what I said when I saw Carol in his hand. It's a rare armor around the mountains, and Carol occasionally takes it out and brushes it with a cloth.

"Yeah. Actually, this is the one I got for Toslin. You're just so hairy, you can comb it every day."

Carol said that with pleasure, imitating Toslin's mouthfeel.

"Toslin is tough on familiarity. I wonder if you're saying it's because you're an elf."

"Toslin is tough on everything. He's always scolded me."

Is there a sense of consciousness at first, Carol laughs bitterly.

"But you're close, aren't you, you two?"

"Eh, I guess so"

"That's right. You're like sisters."

When I said that, Carol slipped her neck.

"Huh. Am I right? I don't know because I don't have any sisters.

"I have one sister, so I wonder how Toslin feels about it, somehow I know. Carol is like my sister...... Yeah, I'll comb it for you if you like."

"Oh, really? Yeah, do it. I love having you combed."

Whenever Carol is combed with one hair, she moves her ears tingly and shakes her patties and tail. I know you're unconscious, but that trick is so cute that I want to hug you from behind. At the same time, so cute, I can't help but think. I guess this little body has had a hard time I can't imagine.

"Isles come on, do you work in a bookstore all the time?

Carol snapped with a potpourri as she watched the fireplace flame.

"Yeah, I guess so"

"Probably... It's vague even though it's about you."

'Cause the goddess made up her mind.

I also stared at every shaking orange fire and smiled slightly. The vast majority are baptized in church when they are ten years old. At that time the vocation is presented by the goddess. The vast majority of people don't follow it. And some people don't get baptized in the first place. Those people will find their own way.

"And that's all I've been thinking about. All this time, my father, my grandfather, and his grandfather have been bookshopping in that town."

"Huh. It is."

"Really? So one day, I thought I'd take over that bookstore, too. My parents must think so."

"Don't you hate it?

"I like books, I don't hate them. Look, just face right forward."

Carol's hair is as smooth and fluffy as cotton wool. Every time I comb it, it smells milky sweet, and it goes with the warmth of the fireplace flames, making me sleepy.

"I wish I could show it to Iris, too. Hey, you know what the ocean is? All this time, it's just water all the way over there. So if you lick that water, it's salty."

Carol gestures and talks like that just a little bit better. I quietly hammered.

"Hey, do you know why Iris has salty sea water?

"Back in the day, when this world today was called the Original World. Because the tears of the goddess dripped there. That's what it said in the book I read before."

"Eh, what do you know? Toslin said it was because everyone was sweating at sea."

"haha... that's kinda, maybe not..."

"Hmm, but... it was really beautiful. Yeah...... it was amazing, beautiful"

Carol's voice also began to tron because of the warmth of the fireplace and the comfort of getting her hair combed.

"Oh well. I'd love to see it someday, too."

"Yeah. At that time, Atashi... will guide you... Go south...... Together with Toslin and Rose... Iris..."

Power falls out of Carol's body and brings it to me. I hug Carol from behind and stroke her hair. After a while, I began to hear Carol's regular sleep.

The next day, with the late winter sunrise, we left the glowing female pavilion. When you load your luggage into a luggage truck, it's a dependable animal that resembles a horse named Durimp that pulls it. This is the goltmund this kid just said.

The difference with horses is that their entire bodies are covered in hairs like nuked goats and that they have sturdy limbs. And that's the point of having a fine horn. And this dulimp, a versatile livestock that can not only pull luggage but also make yarn out of body hair. Cheese with milk is also popular and tasty, but unfortunately this kid is a boy, so I can't make it.

"I'm glad it's a beautiful day."

We leave the town of the front desk and walk down the relatively snowy streets. The snow depth reaches around the waist in many places. But if you follow the streets, there is no obstacle to walking because they are stiffened.

"Right. This may also be the Goddess's reckoning."

Rosé, who walks with Goltmund's reins, looked up at the blue sky and said so. Unlike when he was in the inn, Mr. Rosé dressed like that, on top of a robe of blade-proof dulimp hair (apparently knitted with Goltmund hair) with leather armor...... and equipped with an iron breast plate on its very top, how dressed as a cleric warrior.

In addition to that, he sits on his back with a slender, heavy, lizarded mace and carries a large circular shield on his back. By the way, I was allowed to hold a mace once, but with my arm strength, it was the best I could do just to lift it. I remember feeling terrific that Mr. Rose was an adventurer after all, shaking that bumbuka with one hand.

"Ahhh, I wish I'd seen the dragon"

Next to Mr. Rosé, Carol groaned unfortunately. Carol's outfit isn't much different from when she was in the inn. Speaking of differences, is it that you are wearing two daggers on your hips and a black-colored leather armor? He wears black spats on a black skirt and weaves a blurry dark green cape. Seems like a color to blend into the darkness of the night, but now it's floating awfully because of the silver world on one side.

"Tell me yet, you are. Don't talk like that until you're alone."

That's what Toslin said behind the luggage truck, watching his luggage not fall off. Today Toslin is dressed in thick silver plate armor and carries a long sword with both hands on his back. Although it is a rare outfit for an elf who prefers light gear, it seems to be such a lineage from generation to generation that the sword and armor were inherited from your ancestors. Even the same inheritance is quite different from mine.

"Where are you going?

Speaking of which, I wear skin-coated armor with yumushroom scales to lower my hips and increase fire resistance like I sell everywhere. Thick knee skirt with slightly sturdy lower body. It was so cold that this is all I have to say, I'm wearing an overknee sock, and I keep it to myself, but I'm equipped with pants in yarn. Plus, backpacks and leather boots are what I'm supposed to look like when I go out in the winter. Now I'm walking side by side with Toslin.

"It's a neighboring village called Lelton. Well, even if I say next door, it's winter now, so normally walking would mean going wild twice. We're in a hurry, so we can do this once. Walk the streets east like this, north on the first divide... I guess."

Toslin answers that as he looks at the map. The streets stretching east from this rift front, commonly known as the streets of the beginning, follow the capital Auschnell. Its origins come from the legend that 1000 years ago, in the fold of the Battle of Illua, Hero Lanolut led his people down this path in order to defeat Auschnell, king of the Origins.

Now we're exactly following in the same footsteps as that hero, and while we're dealing with one or a dragon, this one... uh, what are we going to do with that one?

"Hey, Toslin. On top of that, I have a bad question. What are we going to do there?

"Dude, I would have explained it to you yesterday before I went to bed. Carol, did you get it?

"Become, what does that mean"

Carol turns around and protests, but where does Toslin wind.

"The village of Lelton is a specialty of Guthridake, but somehow the goods don't arrive after the promised date. That's why I want you to go to Lelton and see what's going on."

Rosé explained carefully to me that I had difficulty reacting.

"Well, if it weren't for this snow, you wouldn't have to bother asking us for an easy job. Let's get this over with and get home."

Oh, my God. I did. Guthridake is a type of mushroom that can be picked around here, and its spores seem to have a hypnotic effect. They mainly process it and use it as a medicine, but they can only do the work in a dry winter.

Everything about this medicine that goes out in a year is made in the last couple of months. When I think about it, I think our work is very important. Toslin sighs at the ease of his job, but my chest is getting beat up.

Yes, our opponent is not a dragon, but this is a fine job and an adventure we don't know what's on the road. Sometimes I step into a strange land and everything I see looked beautiful and radiant.

"Nevertheless..."

I shrugged when I saw the luggage car. The wheel passes over the top of the wheel, sounding like a rattle and a heavy noise. Gortmund is the only one pulling the luggage that we have packed for a few days. I am amazed at the strength of that power.

"Mr. Rose's house is amazing. I can't believe you followed such a fine child."

Mr. Rosé said he was in the monastery before he embarked on his journey, and before that, he said he was a noble lady who owned more land north of here.

"Uh, that's not what I'm saying. This is the child I grew up with when I was a little girl, and I took her out of the house when I was in the convent."

"What? Seriously? You've never done that before..."

Toslin turned his gaze to Mr. Rosé in surprise. Me and Carol are also waiting for Mr. Rose's next word by closing their eyes.

"That's because they didn't ask. But I'm sure Gortmund would be pleased, wouldn't he? Hey?"

When Mr. Rose stroked Gortmund's head, he snorted as if he were snorting brutally.

"Are you okay with that? Well, it belongs to my house, and I wouldn't get caught."

When Toslin asked that, Mr. Rose clouded his smile, only for a moment, reminiscent of an early spring.

"Right...... But from the people in the house, it would have been a pleasure to have me gone, because I was originally the child I started to keep with my promise to raise myself. So I was wondering if there was an option to leave it there..."

At the end of the day, Mr. Rosé smiled nicely. Toslin put his nose head on at first sight.

"Oh... I don't know, you seem like a lot of trouble too..."

"No, I am blessed. By entering the monastery I was able to get a lot of difficult things, and most importantly, this is how I met all of you. I think this is my property that I didn't get when I stayed in the Mansion."

"Oh, yeah? That's fine if that's what you are... Well, you can say that without any shame."

"Toslin's pretty miserable, too. My family has no magic at all, so they put me on a journey like this. If it's true, wouldn't you have been a knight or something in your homeland by now?

"Well, Toslin's home is a knight's home."

This topic has come up several times before, but this was my first ear. Is that why you're wearing such fine swords and armor?

"Oh, well...... For once, it's a house that's been around a long time."

"So there's no other way to have a heretic like Toslin."

Toslin's thrown snowball hit the back of Carol's head, who said so with pleasure.

"Don't call me heretical. My house is mostly less demonic, but my body is sturdy."

"Let's say Itai Itai. But I get it. The loneliness of being different. Come on, jump into Atashi's chest and cry."

An oversized snowman smashed into Carol's face as she looked back and spread her hand.

"Let it go. I don't think there's a chest to jump into."

"What is it! Yeah, I'm getting bigger every day, too."

Carol throws back a snowball with her luggage. But Toslin is wearing plate armor, so it doesn't hurt or itch when the snow hits the spot. On the other hand, Toslin's throwing snow can be a narrow street, hitting Carol one after the other and glancing at her little body.

"Hey... hey, hey... surrender... ump, hey..."

Finally driven to the side of the street, by Carol, who fell on the deep snow, Toslin now covers the snow.

"I'll pick you up again in the spring, so stay hibernating here until then"

"Is the seal a ball root or something?

"That's right. Dimensions are that in the spring, carotelle grows, which is already choosy. Maybe we can grow better than the Iries if it works, huh?

Toslin jokes and looks at me.

"What do you say all of a sudden? Well, then I'm like Toslin... well, no."

"Oh, what's missing? Perhaps if I had a hand in it, I could split that up..."

Mr. Rose, walking ahead, looked back and laughed out with Carol holding his stomach because that's what you said with a no-horn face.

"Haha, Rose it...... ok, ok! Iris, make sure you do. Haha."

"Uh? Mr. Iris, what am I missing? If you say so…"

"Um, well, it's okay. Enough, and that? Well, it's not enough, but, uh, what do you call it..."

"Don't hesitate. Npu, haha"

You went into the laughing pond, Carol keeps laughing as she falls asleep on the snow. Much of my day goes hand in hand with such a bright laugh of Carol.

"You know... I don't care..."

Toslin looked at Carol with pitiful eyes and sighed.

"Because you're the one who's missing the most, Carol. Right there, you know what I mean?

Needless to say, Carol's laughter stopped perfectly at that moment.

Three hours after we started walking down the street, the road split north and east. Toslin checks the map and matches it with its current location.

"Yeah. Looks like we're heading north here."

"Which one? I don't think you can guess what Toslin said."

Carol came by the toslin through the top of her luggage.

"Hmm? You're probably directional tone deaf, too. For the bandits."

"Haha, he said it's better than Toslin"

There was one weakness in this pair of Toslin and Carol, and that meant they couldn't use the map very effectively. They also came to the town of Liffron because they were lost.

"Ugh, shut up, shut up. I hope Iris sees it."

Toslin seems to be aware of his directional tone deafness as well, and I can't say very strongly to Carol on this point.

"Uh, this is, yeah... I'm pretty sure it's the big rock of goodbye on the map... but the north is this way"

"Oh, that...? Oh, yeah?

Toslin drops his eyes on the map I have and confirms it twice and three times. On its side, Carol's grinning gaze pierces her.

"Toslin... there's no way I was wrong east and north, is there? You know what? You don't make that mistake, do you?

Carol, laughter is going to erupt now.

"Knock... this guy..."

Toslin is leaning bright red in his face.

"Here, here. We've figured out the way, and let's hurry up? The snow's stopped, and we need to find a place in the wild today while the weather's nice."

"What did you do earlier? Which way do I go?

There, Mr. Rose, who had Gortmund's reins and could not move, was interrupted.

"Ah, to your left, please."

When I say so, Mr. Rose directs Gortmund to the north road. Heavy luggage trucks started moving again. The streets stretching north are slightly thinner and, more importantly, less snow-pressed than the streets leading east. This alone proves that no carriage has passed this street here lately.

"Hey, Toslin? Where the hell was Toslin trying to go? Were you gonna go to Auschnell in a minute? Hey, what were you gonna do when you went to the capital or something? What about work?"

Because that's how Carol shakes around like she took a ghost's neck......

"Ugh!

Gottsch, and Carol's fist waved down in her brain.

"Akiaaah! Ouch! Oh, my God!

Carol fell more and more on the snow and nodded.

"Look, don't play. Just walk. We have to get to Lelton by tomorrow."

"Or, uh-oh, Toslin's dumb! Violence against!

Toslin pokes, Carol tears it up... Dozens of repeated sights over the past six months are now unfolding again in front of us.

"Hey, Iris. Say something too! Toslin is terrible."

That's where I get involved these days, too, probably because Carol doesn't have room for sympathy.

"Yeah, you are. Well, then, come on. Stand up and walk."

"Even Iris! Hiya, Iris' ahoy!

That's right. You throw up the dialog, and now you go to Mr. Rose. That's how Rosé said that I and Toslin were told to bully themselves...

"Oh, really?"

You are familiar with Carol's handling, so take out the candy balls and give them to Carol.

"Yeah, and yet! Wow, this is yummy."

Thus, Carol's head is filled with the sweetness of candy balls, until then her anger dissolves and disappears......

"Nah! I'll always be danced with one candy. Carotelle, don't tease me! Until Toslin's tyranny is redone, he won't move a step from here."

I was supposed to, but Carol seems to be learning too.

"You're in trouble. I thought I'd walk a little longer and have lunch..."

"Uh, rice? Oh, you want to walk? How much longer? Hey, hey, how long?

But it's still a child. Pull Mr. Rose's sleeve, and Carol shakes.

"That's right. Then let's go to the forest entrance where we can see it, and then we'll take a break."

When Mr. Rose said that and pointed at his finger, Carol looked back at us with a glittering expression.

"Look what you're bringing! Come on, walk. Come on, let's eat. Ugh!

"Yes, sir. You don't have to tell me."

"Let's make it a sandwich for lunch today."

Toslin and I look at Carol like that and laugh. Carol ran cheerfully over the snow, gladly.

But I took care of the lunch that Carol was looking forward to.

"Wait a minute, Rose"

Carol stepped into the woods one foot ahead of the other, stopping her foot perfectly and returning to us. This forest, known as the Swansy Forest, grows densely even in winter with lush green leaves, and the deeper it goes, the more sunlight is whispered and darkness becomes. An alias like this is the pitch-black forest. I think the locals would carry a lamp when entering this forest even during the day...... something like that was written in the book Safe for Journeys near Auschnell.

"What's wrong, Mr. Carol?"

When Mr. Rose stopped Gortmund, he put his index finger up in front of his mouth.

"Shh, be quiet, can't you hear anything?"

Carol tells me we're bluffing. However, I can only pick up the sound of the wind shaking the leaves of the tree on purpose. The snow is absorbing the sound. I turn to my neighbor Toslin, but I still don't seem to hear anything as well.

"I don't hear anything, though."

When Toslin said so, Carol threw her gaze behind the woods as she moved her ears picturesque.

"You have something. People, I guess, but too many for that. I don't know... this is definitely two legs... A lot of very light and... and one very heavy... And this is... people's voices?

"People? What are you saying?

Carol put her hand behind her ear as I twisted.

"Wait... uh... did...? Oh, what are you saying? Ha... Ha, ha... help me, huh?

"Help!?

We raised our bare voice. Someone in these woods is asking for help? Hey, you think that's a monster attack?

"This is how I can't want it. Goltmund, follow me."

Mr. Rosé tries to rush out with a togettegemeis in his hand.

"Well, don't wait, Rose."

It was Carol who stopped it. Things like this make Carol look terribly calm. It's not the usual childish thing to do, staring into the woods with a calm eye.

"Shit."

Meanwhile, Mr. Rosé takes the initiative and tries to step forward when it comes to the fight. It's different from the usual thoughtful look and changes to a tough face. I guess it feels like action first rather than thinking, and thick faith and sense of justice make it so.

"Well, he said running around to the dark clouds wouldn't help him either. How do you know where, Carol?

Speaking of Toslin, it feels like Carol and Mr. Rose were added and divided by 2. I'm trying to figure out the situation by suppressing the urge to rush out even soon.

"Wow, wow, what am I supposed to do..."

I just don't feel comfortable standing alone and clinging to Goltmund's warm fur.

"You stay here. Gortmund and I don't think we need to do that."

Toslin's long ears moved pickly. I still don't hear anything, but Toslin seems to have started to get the sound of Carol's capture.

"What the hell is going on? I still don't hear anything. Is it safe to say that you're looking for that help?

"Yeah, safe and sound. They're coming this way at a fast rate."

"What, is this really human? Fast... Rosé, they're coming! Turn left!

From the direction Toslin pointed at his finger, a scream that sounds unexpected.

"No, no, no, no! Oh, my God, you idiot! What did I do?

"I'm not a person. No! Oh, what is that, a fairy?

To Toslin's words, I keep an eye out. Far away and still not sure, but I did find out it wasn't a person. 'Cause it's too small for people. Plus it's flying like slipping on snow with wings that grow on my back.

"This may be the first time I've seen a fairy in such daylight..."

Gradually, though, I began to see who was coming this way. Green hair and wheat skin. The body is wrapped in a frilly, young grass-colored dress reminiscent of a lush leaf. He wasn't in the town where I live, but I saw him every once in a while at night at the front desk. I watched from a distance having a dance party in a frozen fountain. So this is the first time I've heard a voice.

"Idiot, you're an asshole! Seriously, I'm gonna smash you to death! I'm going to kill you and nourish you."

But my mouth is worse than I imagined. It's something I used to tone more politely in the books I read though.

"I'm coming, Rose, Caroloo!

Toslin pulled a long sword out of his back and screamed. Then a lot of something black appeared from behind the fairy. I don't know what that is... it's in the shape of a person... it does run on two legs, but it's not a person... this...

"It's goblin!

I was hugging and screaming at Goltmund.
