Chapter 627: He Means... Divorce
Evelyn silently cursed: Could Caden Lockwood stop looking at her with such a sorrowful expression?
She’s already fine!
Although her body still hurt a lot, at least she’s alive, and she hasn’t lost any limbs.
With that, she felt content!
Evelyn took a deep breath and was about to open her eyes when she heard Caden Lockwood’s voice: "I’m sorry."
Upon hearing this, Evelyn trembled slightly.
Facing Caden’s sorrowful gaze, her heart tightened.
"I’m sorry..." Caden continued.
Evelyn looked at Caden. His face was also haggard and desolate, and those sharp black eyes now overflowed with melancholy, making it hard for anyone to bear looking at him.
"You don’t need to be so upset about my presence." Caden clenched his fist and lightly parted his thin lips: "Once you’re healed, I will..."
At this moment, it felt as if his breath was being taken away, and Caden grudgingly forced out four words: "Let you go."
Evelyn’s eyes widened in surprise.
Did Caden just say, let her go?
Could he possibly mean... he wants a divorce?
An unbelievable flash crossed Evelyn’s eyes. After just waking up from a car accident, he doesn’t want her anymore?
Evelyn’s gaze remained fixed on Caden, seemingly thinking he was joking.
But, his expression was so earnest, it didn’t have the slightest hint of joking!
Seeing Evelyn’s face full of disbelief, Caden’s heart ached even more.
"It’s true!" he added, "I’m not lying to you."
Evelyn blinked, listening to Caden’s words, she inexplicably felt even more agitated.
From the start of their marriage, she had been thinking about divorce.
Every time she had a major argument with Caden, she had doubted more than once whether they were truly suited for a lifetime together.
But now, when he actually said those words to let her go, she panicked.
Leave?
From then on, she wouldn’t be Mrs. Lockwood anymore?
Waking up in the morning, there wouldn’t be his scent in the sheets; at the dining table, he and she wouldn’t be fighting over food; when encountering unhappy things, he wouldn’t be her confidant anymore; he wouldn’t pamper her, scold her, or dislike her, he’d disappear from her life?
"Leave... leave?" Evelyn stuttered, "Then... how... should I pay you back two cents every day?"
"I don’t need it anymore." Caden shook his head.
He... couldn’t bear it anymore.
"From today onwards, you don’t need to pay me back." Caden’s voice was very light, very light, gradually dissipating into the air.
They’re about to divorce, so where... would there be a golden anniversary?
Evelyn frowned and quickly spoke again: "In the future, no matter what happens to me, you won’t care anymore?"
Caden’s tone was somewhat urgent, "You won’t encounter anything."
After a pause, he added: "Logan Shaw... will take good care of you."
Logan Shaw again!
Evelyn clenched her fists tightly, annoyed to the point she’d like to smash open Caden’s head and see what’s inside.
In his heart, is he so sure that she loves Logan?
Damn it!
He’s the biggest ingrate in the world!
"Fine!" Evelyn responded coldly, though her heart ached painfully, "Thank you very much for letting me be free! I will live well with that freedom, whether it’s growing old or being ill or dying, I don’t need you!"
