Chapter 547: Let’s Go Home
During the examination, Evelyn Morgan kept her eyes tightly shut, not daring to look at anyone.
It seemed as if the surroundings suddenly became quiet, and she could only hear her own frantic heartbeat.
Those few minutes felt as long as a century.
A voice in Evelyn’s mind screamed: What if I’m pregnant?
If she’s pregnant, what should she do?
And if she’s not pregnant, what should she do?
It seemed that no matter the result, she would be at a loss!
Fear gripped Evelyn so tightly that she held her breath, each cell in her body trembling with tension.
At this moment, the doctor’s voice suddenly rang out: "Mrs. Lockwood is not pregnant."
Not?
Upon hearing these two words, Evelyn immediately opened her eyes.
The smile at the corner of her lips hadn’t fully unfolded, yet she saw the dim disappointment on Caden Lockwood’s face, the brightness in his dark eyes seemingly extinguished in an instant.
Evelyn’s heart skipped a beat, and the joy piled up in her chest dissipated along with it.
She knew that Caden Lockwood had hoped for her to be pregnant.
And the happiness displayed on her face due to not being pregnant surely made him uncomfortable!
Thinking of this, Evelyn couldn’t help but feel guilty.
After all, she is now his wife, and having children will be something they both must go through.
Her rejection—although he said nothing—was evident through his expression; he was extremely displeased with the current result.
Evelyn blinked and tentatively asked in a soft voice, "Are you okay?"
Caden Lockwood didn’t reply, his gaze fixed on Evelyn’s belly, as if pondering something.
"Caden!" Evelyn became anxious, raising her voice involuntarily, "Are you okay?"
Only then did Caden Lockwood come to his senses, meeting Evelyn’s uneasy gaze. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
"I understand." Caden’s voice was very soft.
Evelyn was puzzled. What did Caden mean by saying "I understand"?
Caden Lockwood looked at the doctor again and asked, "Could it be that the timing isn’t right, so... it’s not detectable even if she’s already pregnant?"
"Based on the menstrual cycle, if there was a pregnancy, we would have been able to detect it by now," the doctor replied apologetically, "But Mrs. Lockwood truly isn’t pregnant, and the results should not be incorrect."
After hearing the doctor’s words, Caden Lockwood fell into greater silence, emanating a cold and oppressive aura, making others hesitant to provoke him.
Evelyn didn’t even dare to breathe.
Suddenly, she questioned whether her decision not to want a pregnancy was the right one.
Her intuition told her that Caden Lockwood’s desire for a child was not purely out of a wish to be a father.
It seemed he had other reasons compelling her to be pregnant.
Evelyn furrowed her brows, wondering if there was some hidden truth about her pregnancy that she wasn’t aware of.
Under Evelyn’s suspicious gaze, Caden Lockwood remained lost in his thoughts for a long time before finally snapping back.
Evelyn was even more perplexed.
Caden Lockwood had always been strong; when had he ever been lost like this?
And because she wasn’t pregnant, was he really this disappointed?
"Let’s go." Caden spoke softly, "Let’s go back to our home."
As Caden finished speaking, he extended his hand, grasping Evelyn’s, intending to lead her away from there.
Although Caden was still holding her hand, Evelyn felt something peculiar.
She watched his back, stepping in rhythm to follow him. Because of his strength, she couldn’t muster the energy to think.
Sitting in the car, Sean Ashton drove while Evelyn and Caden sat in the back seat.
Caden kept Evelyn nestled in his embrace, leaning against the car door for a nap.
From time to time, Evelyn glanced at Caden. When he opened his eyes, she guiltily averted her gaze.
"Is there anything you want to say?" Caden asked, his tone neutral, giving no hint of his current mood.
