Chapter 542: Call Me Husband!
Evelyn’s hands clenched into tight fists as she kept her eyes on the emergency room doors, praying in her heart that Caden Lockwood would be alright.
His headache had originally worsened, but because of her stubbornness, naivety, and temper, did she make his pain even worse?
Evelyn couldn’t accept the fact that she was the reason Caden became so weak. She leaned against the wall, staring blankly out the window, as the beating of her heart grew ever more silent...
Caden Lockwood had been unconscious for three days, and Evelyn stayed by his side all the while, watching over him.
Worried that the long journey back to Atheria would make him feel even worse, she simply called his primary doctor to treat him.
"Why hasn’t he... woken up yet?" Evelyn asked the doctor, her voice heavy with anxiety, "It’s already the third day!"
"Mrs. Lockwood," the doctor sighed heavily, "Mr. Lockwood was too exhausted this time. Even a normal person couldn’t withstand going five days and nights without sleep, let alone Mr. Lockwood, whose health was already..."
"He’s had three days to rest. He should have slept enough and woken up, even if just for an hour!" Evelyn bit her lip, "Tell me honestly, when will he wake up? Don’t give me ambiguous answers; I need him to wake up and be sure he’s okay!"
"This..." the doctor appeared somewhat troubled, "It depends on Mr. Lockwood’s own state of health. Mrs. Lockwood, talking to him more can actually help him wake up faster."
"I’ve talked to him a lot!" Evelyn frowned, "I keep talking, but he hasn’t woken up!"
Evelyn didn’t know how she got through these three days.
She completely understood the feelings Caden must have had during the five days she disappeared.
From now on, she’d never run away from home again!
"Mrs. Lockwood," the doctor seemed helpless, "Mr. Lockwood will wake up."
"I need a definite time!" Evelyn raised her voice, "You’re his private doctor, you know his condition well! How can someone stay unconscious for several days, and yet you still can’t provide a specific time?"
"Mrs." Caden Lockwood’s voice suddenly rang out, "You’re really quite noisy!"
Evelyn’s breath caught, her gaze immediately shifting to Caden Lockwood. Seeing him staring at her, her eyes suddenly lit up.
"You’re awake!" Evelyn exclaimed excitedly, "Uncle, you..."
"Call me husband!" Caden Lockwood demanded fiercely, his face already returning to its cold and domineering demeanor.
Evelyn’s neck shrank as she saw Caden’s icy expression, but her smile grew even brighter.
"That’s great!" Evelyn leaned directly into Caden Lockwood’s embrace, "I’ve been waiting for you to wake up!"
Caden froze for a moment; this was probably the first time Evelyn had thrown herself into his arms.
He glared at the doctor in the room, signaling him to leave quickly, and Sean Ashton also wisely departed.
Evelyn didn’t think too much.
She only knew that Caden was finally awake, and she was so happy, truly happy!
With just Evelyn and Caden left in the room, he held her in his arms, gently kissed her forehead, and softly asked, "Will you run away again in the future?"
Evelyn’s breath caught. So, Caden’s first concern upon waking was about her running away?
She opened her mouth, wanting to assuredly tell him she would never run again, but when it came to it, she couldn’t say a word.
