Chapter 1213 - 1181: A Warning for You
Chapter 1181 A Warning For You
Hua Qingyi flung away the empty gun in his hand and patted his clothes, realizing he didn’t seem to have any weapon on him at all. Facing machetes bare‑handed was a losing deal. The assassins saw Hua Qingyi throw away his gun and instantly got fired up again. One of them let out a shout and charged up, silver light flashing as the machete came straight for his face.
With a clang, the machete slammed into a steel rod and threw off several sparks. The assassin stared blankly at the man who had suddenly appeared, and in the blink of an eye he was swept off his feet and slammed to the ground. With a wet crunch, the steel rod whistled down on his skull without hesitation, smashing it open on impact, brain matter splattering everywhere.
"With me here, that’s enough." Troy killed a man with one swing of his rod, his excited eyes sweeping over the people in front of him. He roared and was already swinging the iron rod as he charged.
No need for much talk, no need to be polite. Hua Qingyi casually picked up a machete from the ground and stuck it behind his back, then sprinted in the direction where Crow had disappeared. In just that short moment, the guy was already nowhere to be seen. Hua Qingyi circled around several buildings nearby and still didn’t find any trace of Crow. Just as anxiety kicked in, he suddenly looked up and saw that massive body leaping toward an outdoor AC unit. This was the second floor—what the hell was that thing going up there for?
He looked up at the still faintly lit room, frowning. Don’t tell him it really went and hid in someone else’s home. While that thought flashed through his mind, Crow had already landed on the second‑floor balcony and slipped inside like a streak of smoke.
Under the dim light, Murong Lengyue was squatting on the floor. On the two‑seat sofa, Xiao Lin was lying there with his eyes closed, his breathing so weak it was practically nonexistent. His pale face was like a sheet of white paper, long lashes resting over his eyes, his exhaled breath as faint and imperceptible as if it weren’t there at all.
Clutching his icy cold hand, Murong Lengyue was so anxious she had no idea what to do. His cleaned‑up body exposed two obvious bullet holes, both bullets still lodged inside. One of them was only three fingers’ width from his heart, and she actually hadn’t known a thing. Tears dropped from her eyes, splashing nonstop. Her other hand kept hovering at Xiao Lin’s nose, testing back and forth to see if there was still any breath coming out. Her vacant gaze was fixed on the phone on the table, waiting for a call back so anxiously it made her want to kill.
A head poked in from under the curtain. Crow suddenly sprang in front of Murong Lengyue, its head popping out so abruptly that she screamed at the top of her lungs. The male owner of the house rushed out, and when he saw there was actually a wolf in his living room, his reaction lagged half a beat before he slammed the bedroom door shut with a bang, telling the people inside not to come out. Then he rushed straight into the kitchen, grabbed a kitchen knife, and came back into the living room, pointing it at Crow in front of him!
"Wh‑what is that?" he screamed hysterically. Two hostage‑taking strangers who looked like killers had suddenly appeared in his home; that was bad enough. Now there was even a wild beast. The man’s nerves were stretched to the breaking point—he couldn’t take any more. He waved the knife at Crow in a panic, shouting so loudly that Murong Lengyue, already on edge and irritable, grew even more agitated. She yanked out her gun and pointed it at the man.
"Shut up! Or I’ll kill you right now."
Staring at the dark muzzle aimed at his head, the man immediately clamped his hands over his mouth. Murong Lengyue stood up from the floor, uneasily watching him. Xiao Yue and Young Master Wu’s behavior had seemed off; logically speaking, they wouldn’t drag things out this long. Even if they lost contact, they wouldn’t stay split up outside for so long. If someone really could hold them up for this long, then those people were no small fry. Who else was around Robert? And he’d said this was Shao Weihua’s idea—did that guy really have the guts for something like this?
Crow stuck out its tongue and licked Xiao Lin’s face, but the man lying there had no reaction at all. Suddenly Crow let out a roar, scaring the homeowner so badly he fell on his ass, nearly pissing himself.
"Scared stupid already? Go open the door." The doorbell rang frantically, like a death knell urging him on. The man scrambled and crawled his way to the door and opened the downstairs lock.
"P‑please, don’t kill us." Murong Lengyue gave a cold snort. Not long after, two people barged in from outside, and to her disappointment, the one who came wasn’t Xiao Yue.
"Hua Qingyi!"
"Miss Murong." Seeing Murong Lengyue standing there unharmed, a gun still in her hand, Hua Qingyi spoke. The male homeowner, seeing yet another two strangers appear, leaned both hands on the shoe cabinet, completely numb from too many shocks.
"You’re the owner here?" Yelu Shou, who’d followed behind Hua Qingyi, suddenly asked him. The man nodded. "Good." As soon as the word left his mouth, the homeowner collapsed to the floor with a thud, knocked out cold by a heavy chop to the back of the neck.
"Where’s Xiao Lin?" Hua Qingyi stepped forward and saw Crow squatting on the floor with its head resting on the sofa. Without Murong Lengyue needing to point the way, he was already vaulting over the back of the sofa. Seeing Xiao Lin’s complexion like that of a man about to die, his face instantly sank.
Yelu Shou shut the door and, seeing Hua Qingyi’s face turn that ugly, felt his heart jolt. He strode past Murong Lengyue and walked over, frowning as well. "How did he get hurt this bad?"
"How long has he been like this?" Hua Qingyi lifted his head and asked Murong Lengyue.
"About forty‑five minutes."
Hua Qingyi scooped Xiao Lin up without another word and headed out. Yelu Shou, his expression grave, pointed at Murong Lengyue. "Coming with us, or staying here to wait for your bodyguards?"
"I’m going with you."
Yelu Shou followed behind Hua Qingyi while dialing the Black Doctor to coordinate surgery. Xiao Lin was badly hurt, and at that moment, Troy—who had just finished off all the assassins—was waiting outside the complex, covered in blood.
"Boss?" Seeing the weak Xiao Lin, Troy straightened up. He couldn’t believe his eyes. That guy had always been so tough—how could he get taken down so easily by a few assassins? He couldn’t make sense of it.
"We’ll talk when we get back. The Black Doctor has already sent a car." Yelu Shou ignored Murong Lengyue behind them and headed first for the rendezvous point they’d set with the Black Doctor.
"What about this woman?" Troy pointed at Murong Lengyue.
Yelu Shou turned back to look at her. "You stay here. Your people should be here soon too."
"No, I’m going with you."
Hua Qingyi stopped, handed Xiao Lin over to Yelu Shou, and strode up to Murong Lengyue. "Know when to stop. Your Murong Family isn’t made of saints. If you really love Xiao Lin, then back off. I don’t know how much he knows, but if you don’t want to be spat on in the end, let him go."
"I don’t understand what you’re talking about." Murong Lengyue’s heart felt like it was being wrenched in someone’s grip, leaving her unable to breathe.
"You really don’t understand anything? I found out a lot during this trip back. If you want me to keep my mouth shut, then stop dragging him into this. Otherwise, I’ll kill you." (To be continued.
