Chapter 1180 Tracing the Clues

Rochester arrived at the construction site immediately with his team, and the entire area had been sealed off. All the workers present were prohibited from leaving while numerous police cars raced in, sirens blaring, which shocked the foreman and prompted the developer to come over from his residence. Being suddenly surrounded by police cars, no one would sit back and do nothing.

"Excuse me, sir, can you tell us what happened here?" The developer asked, startled by the scale of the police presence, his words stumbling.

"The police are performing official duties, occupying your area," a junior officer replied dismissively. Orders from above were clear: not a shred of information was to be leaked.

"How long will this take? Our project is on a tight schedule."

"Just wait!" With that, the junior officer left the developer standing aside and headed toward a building.

At this moment, several dark figures jumped from a high wall, quietly merging into the building surrounded by the most police presence. Among them was a peculiar shadow, only half the height of the others, seemingly some kind of animal. The developer rubbed his eyes, not believing what he saw. When he reopened them, there was nothing in front of him, just a beam of light from the car headlights illuminating a vacant lot.

"What was that?" he whispered, a drop of cold sweat forming on his forehead. Without a second thought, he jumped into his car and quickly sped away from the site.

Rochester followed his team through the floors, searching for relevant clues. From the third floor upwards, signs of a struggle were evident; grenade destruction had blown apart a section of the building. Corpses littered the ground, and bullet marks were notably more frequent as they ascended. On the seventh or eighth floor, they found three decapitated bodies from sharp weapons and one body shot through by bullets, along with plenty of blood trails and two pairs of 10-centimeter-long shoe heels.

"Chief, we’ve found a witness."

"Let’s go and question them." Although Rochester wanted to explore further, he received a report from his subordinates and rushed downstairs with his men. Finding and identifying people was the priority; only by doing that could Palermo calm down. With a sigh, he hurried downstairs.

Once the chaotic footsteps faded away, three shadows and the animal figure emerged.

"I knew we should’ve gone together, but now we have no idea where they’ve gone." Troy complained as he arrived at a wall with significant bloodstains. "Not sure which of the two got hurt, but judging by the quantity of blood, the injury is severe."

"Who else but Xiao Lin?" Hua Qingyi squatted down, glancing around the room where chaotic footsteps and bloodstains were everywhere. "Let’s have that guy come over and identify the traces." Hua Qingyi gestured towards Crow as he spoke.

No need for him to speak; Crow was already circling the bloodstains, emitting a low hum akin to crying. Yelu Shou glanced at Hua Qingyi, wondering how Xiao Lin, injured and burdened with an incompetent companion, managed to escape?

"Search, it must be nearby." Hua Qingyi stood up, not believing that Xiao Lin was dead; surely, he was hiding somewhere.

"This is a development area in Palermo, with a nearby residential building established by a Chinese investor. The inhabitants are from various places." Troy stood by a window frame, watching below where police continued to question construction workers. The explosion in the building couldn’t go unnoticed, and even silenced gunshots would make a dull noise, let alone when using no suppressors.

"I’ll take Crow and scout ahead. If there’s blood, we can easily track it." Hua Qingyi eyed the restless Crow, but slipping out unnoticed among the throng of police would indeed be challenging.

"Troy and I will distract the police; notify us as soon as you find something." Yelu Shou said, patting Troy’s shoulder and casually walking downstairs.

"Chief, look at that!" Rochester, facing away from the building as he questioned construction workers, heard his subordinate shouting and quickly turned around, expecting a discovery. However, what came from the building surprisingly were people from Sin City.

"Why are you here?"

"All of Palermo is turning over every stone for Murong Lengyue; we, Sin City, certainly can’t leave our boss unattended. It was rumored that the last place Murong Lengyue appeared was here, so naturally, we came to have a look." Yelu Shou replied with a chuckle.

"The police can handle it here, it’s best if you all leave."

"The police just need to find Murong Lengyue, we don’t expect you to help us find someone from Sin City, it’s just..." Yelü Shou suddenly stopped and stepped forward. "The chief won’t forget Xiao Lin’s other identity, right? If something really happens, how will you explain it? Your mayor doesn’t understand, but surely you know, right?"

"This..."

"So, let’s each stay in our respective roles. From the night market shooting to here, we don’t know whose blood this is. Follow your routine procedures, and we’ll use our methods. As long as the result is good, isn’t that enough?"

"I’m warning you not to act recklessly." Rochester heard the threat in Yelü Shou’s words, he was shocked and pulled Yelü Shou aside. "The whole of Palermo is on high alert right now, if you mess up again, even the director can’t smooth things over."

"Heh, chief, you probably misunderstood me. We just want to find our boss. The blood found in this building might belong to one of them. With your police efficiency, can you be as well-informed as us?" Yelü Shou patted Rochester’s shoulder as he spoke, not underestimating you, but there’s really nothing to see.

"Chief, this guy is too arrogant!" A subordinate who couldn’t stand Yelü Shou’s attitude wanted to go teach him a lesson but was stopped by Rochester.

"These people won’t cause trouble."

"But..."

"Let’s check around nearby and see what we can find." Rochester looked at the backs of the two people walking away and didn’t say anything more.

Raven circled the open space and then leaped onto a high wall four hundred meters away. The footprints here were many and messy, as if trampled by a large army, making it difficult to discern anything, only confirming that many people had passed through at the time. Hua Qingyi crouched among the footprints, quickly scanned them, and then darted to where Raven was standing. The footprints, although messy, could faintly distinguish sizes, with women’s feet much smaller than men’s.

He stepped on a pile of cement, jumped into the air, and onto the wall. Raven followed Hua Qingyi’s trajectory and quickly leaped up, the first to jump down. Hua Qingyi squatted on top of the wall and looked around; this place was close to the construction area, some distance from the completed four buildings, while the exploded building was the second one. If at the time the two trapped inside the building wanted to break through countless assassins, jumping from the building was the best way.

Raven roared low in front, as if urging the person on the wall to jump halfway quickly, tilting its head toward Hua Qingyi.

Across the alley was the residential area Troy just mentioned; it did have a familiar scent. But in such a place, are there people living in these buildings?

Raven circled once at the entrance to the community then swiftly darted to the deepest part, with Hua Qingyi chasing behind, a bit struggling. If Xiao Lin’s blood had such power, had he known, he would’ve tried it too. It could greatly enhance his skills. But just when Raven’s presence was still apparent, suddenly a commotion sounded around, making him stop. In front of Raven, a few people appeared, not looking like good folks.

With all four limbs on the ground, Raven bent forward slightly, extending its left paw, keeping its head low, with fur bristling, growling ominously, as if ready to attack, focused on the people in front of it.

The people who emerged from the shadows were surprised upon realizing it was a gigantic canine, not knowing what was happening, they exchanged looks in confusion. But in that moment of distraction, Raven’s massive figure pounced, swinging its right paw with fierce strength and speed, not clumsy even mid-air. As it neared one person, it twisted sideways, its other paw reaching another person’s face, the balanced coordination shocking Hua Qingyi, this was beyond an animal’s instinct, living like a person.

"Damn it!" someone shouted, the sound of a gun jam was heard. Without hesitation, Hua Qingyi hurled a throwing knife in his hand, hitting the person about to fire, a scream erupted. The person, whose position was not yet determined, had just a blur before his eyes and a black shadow flashed through, his neck emitted a cracking sound, slumping to the ground without even a scream, while on the other side the two hit by Raven’s claws were also torn apart. Instantly, three people lost their lives, causing those around to retreat one after another.

"Leave this to me, Raven go find." Since they were staying there without leaving, Xiao Lin should be nearby. Regardless of whether Raven understood his words, Hua Qingyi kicked up the gun from the person whose neck he broke, aiming at the dozen people in front of him. One bullet per person, still plenty left for him to handle alone.

"Where did this girly-looking man crawl out from, best if you don’t meddle, wouldn’t want that face of yours scarred, such a pity."

"Heh, really?" As soon as the words fell, a bullet had already pierced through his open mouth, directly blowing his head off.

Seeing their companion shot dead on the spot, the others charged forward heedlessly. Suddenly, blades and shadows clashed across the whole community road, bullets spattered all around, the fallen grew more numerous by the second, and in a blink, the fallen lay scattered on the ground, those not killed began to retreat suddenly.
