Chapter 1239 - 1208: The Embryonic Form of Chaos
Chapter 1208 The Form of Chaos
"Young Master, I think they’re not going to fight. It’s almost dawn; you have a meeting this morning." Murphy thought of an excuse to get Nicholas to leave, but evidently, the person beside him, refreshed from a night’s sleep, was unwilling to see his butler with dark circles under his eyes, heavily drooping his eyelids, ready to fall asleep at any moment.
"You go back first, and reschedule the meeting for later. If it can’t be rescheduled, you can handle it for me. You’re familiar with the procedures, and I have complete confidence in you." Nicholas rubbed his eyes; in his line of sight, the two groups stood still like statues. His curiosity urged him to move closer, but Murphy grabbed him.
"Young Master, you are the current Godfather. Shouldn’t you act like one? Do you know what they’re saying about you outside? If you let Robert run amok, your position will be at risk."
"Murphy, you’re becoming more like my late dad. Don’t worry. Someone will handle Robert for me, and those who want to bring me down just want the position for themselves. Don’t you have any confidence in me? How can I abandon my wife now?" Nicholas blinked his blue eyes, pointing to the woman in black on the scene. "She’s my motivation. I swear to heaven I’ll return home safely, OK?"
"No, sir, I must stay here." Reluctantly glancing at the scene, Murphy shook his head. The people in the circular plaza seemed ready to draw their swords any moment. "Young Master..."
"Shh!" Nicholas shrugged off Murphy’s hand, moving a bit closer. At this distance, he could hear their conversation more clearly.
Yelu Shou continued to act as the controller in Xiao Lin’s absence. This time, Hua Qingyi cooperatively stayed at the back. On some level, this was a ’Black Crow’ family affair, with no room for him or Yelu Shou to intervene, much less Black Doctor and Troy. However, as it was on Black Street’s turf, they had no choice but to involve these two. With Xiao Lin not present, Yelu Shou took charge. However, there was a troublesome woman in the building behind them, so his responsibility should be with the one upstairs. As he thought this, Hua Qingyi squinted at the rising sun and turned back inside. Xiao Lin should be finishing by now!
Lao Jiu stood before Yelu Shou, facing Lucifer, who was in the center. The gray among the black was particularly striking. Today, most of the ’Black Crow’ members were present—except Consort Ling and the leader, everyone showed up. If not for the solemn expressions on their faces, one might have thought it was a reunion party.
It wasn’t Lucifer’s first time seeing Lao Jiu’s red hair. He glanced at the third floor, to the woman who had been there all night, who had practically mobilized all of Palermo’s police, and caused the security department to lose seven elite members. He gave her a cold smile, which Murong Lengyue didn’t avoid, overlooking the situation below, oblivious to the presence behind her.
"Do you know what kind of news is the best news?" Hua Qingyi didn’t want to stay outside, mostly because he didn’t want to witness bloodshed. This is a slaughter that couldn’t be avoided. Perhaps Yi didn’t appear on Black Street for the same reason, though he might consider it an irresponsible escape. Yet perhaps Yi was somewhere here, holding onto the hope that if Xiao Lin appeared now, things wouldn’t be too bad.
The smell of smoke entered Murong Lengyue’s nose, causing her to cough a few times, pressing her hand against her nose. Hua Qingyi glanced at her and extinguished the freshly lit cigarette in the ashtray.
"It’s alright!" Though she said so, Murong Lengyue felt grateful, thinking this man was more gentlemanly than Xiao Lin—at least he knew how to accommodate a woman. "No news is the best news."
"Ah, yeah! It’s daytime now, if all goes well, they should be on their way back now. With no news coming out, the results shouldn’t be too bad."
"Are you reporting to me?" Murong Lengyue leaned forward, watching every move below with concern.
"Sort of! Because you, it’s quite disadvantageous for us now."
Outside the window, Lao Jiu’s fan opened with a whoosh. Compared to usual fans, its size was twice as large, looking more like a piece of art when opened. It looked nice but was impractical. If you thought this, you underestimated it. It wasn’t just an ordinary fan; there were secret mechanisms inside that could kill at any moment.
"Alas!" Hua Qingyi sighed deeply. "It seems impossible to avoid. These two groups have been in a standoff too long."
"Aren’t you going down?" Murong Lengyue became curious. "With Xiao Lin not here, shouldn’t you be down there fighting alongside them?"
"Me? With Yelu Shou here, that’s enough. I have my own responsibilities to manage."
"Me?" Hua Qingyi nodded.
"Rather than engage in fights, I’d rather sit here and enjoy the air conditioning."
"I didn’t realize you’re someone who dislikes bloodshed," Murong Lengyue teased Hua Qingyi.
"I’m not an assassin; why would I like killing? I only kill those who deserve it. It’s just like if one day you become someone who deserves to die, I’d kill you without mercy. Xiao Lin and I are like that, so here’s the difference. The people below naturally enjoy the taste of blood, while we are forced to like it." Hua Qingyi walked up a step closer to Murong Lengyue, deliberately inhaling her scent. "You belong to the former group."
"Rude!" Murong Lengyue retreated as if her hair had stood on end. This man, prettier than a woman, had a captivating charm that enchanted people.
Hua Qingyi laughed heartily and stepped away, directing his gaze at Lao Jiu. Lucifer’s expression was unsightly, while the Magician maintained his usual stance, standing at a distance of five or six steps from Lucifer.
"Where’s Consort Ling?" Lucifer asked Lao Jiu. The long-absent City Lord of the underground had appeared again, seeming different. More accurately, standing among these people, there was something different about him, as if he saw the shadow of someone else within them. Such a realization breeds jealousy. (To be continued.
