Chapter 1165: The Assassin’s Curse

A flash of viciousness appeared in Consort Ling’s eyes. Her legs spun in the air, driving her body to follow the motion, and then both legs slammed once more into the chest of Grade Seven.

Bang! Grade Seven, pinned under Consort Ling’s feet, stared at her with wide eyes, trying to lift his trembling right hand to point at her, as if wanting to say something, but as he opened his mouth, large mouthfuls of red blood spewed out.

Consort Ling drew the sword stick from her back. Clearly, under the combined assaults of Consort Ling’s palms and legs, Grade Seven’s internal organs were completely shattered. A cold glint flashed, and the sword tip suddenly thrust into the center of Grade Seven’s heart.

Death! Inevitable!

When the words "a mission is a mission" were uttered, it was already fated that Grade Seven would die at Consort Ling’s hands.

The sword stick twisted, shattering the heart with force! Such a method might seem cruel, but there is an inescapable legend among assassins: the only way to escape the curse of doom upon killers is to destroy the heart of the victim entirely, leaving them truly heartless.

This might sound laughable, but no one dares to disbelieve it. Any newcomer to the assassin’s ranks will have an elder tell them: to avoid being haunted by resentment, either take the heart after death or utterly obliterate it.

Grade Seven’s eyes remained open, his pupils gradually turning gray. For a moment, Consort Ling seemed to see a smile at the corner of his mouth, perhaps because death truly was a release for these assassins.

"Your death will exchange for the clown’s survival." Consort Ling muttered to herself. Grade Seven didn’t actually have to die, but for the clown’s sake, he offered up his own life, knowing full well Xiao Lin would not spare them, merely striving to purchase a chance at life for the clown. Such protection was foolish.

Withdrawing the sword stick, Consort Ling slung Grade Seven’s body over her shoulder, her sharp eyes sweeping over those behind her.

"Anyone who blocks me will die!"

After throwing down those fierce words, Consort Ling strode towards the exit. No one dared approach, shrinking back as if terrified, relieved not to be killed. Who would be foolish enough to step forward after witnessing such display of strength—especially when even the big guy was dead? What would they count for?

Xia Xue had disappeared, and in that instant, Yelu Shou received the message delivered by Consort Ling. Halfway to his destination, Yelu Shou slammed to a halt in the middle of the road.

"Are you mad?" Troy yelled from the back, while Lao Jiu, sitting in the passenger seat, squinted at Consort Ling. They had been on the road since receiving Xia Xue’s distress message, always feeling something was about to happen. Unexpectedly, their premonition proved accurate, and looking at Yelu Shou’s peculiar expression now, an even deeper sense of foreboding washed over him, chilling his brain as if shoved into a freezer.

Car horns blared behind them; this was a main thoroughfare, and stopping here caused multiple collisions from vehicles unable to brake in time. Yelu Shou removed his headset, quickly stepped on the gas, and sped away without any explanation.

As he rushed to the address Consort Ling had mentioned, he made several calls, each one a message about finding someone.

"What’s going on?" The three people in the car asked quietly, even Black Crow sensed Yelu Shou’s unease.

"Xia Xue is missing!"

"What?" The three shouted in unison before falling into mutual, profound silence.

"Let’s find Consort Ling first and then talk."

Consort Ling stood at the exit of an underground parking lot, with Grade Seven’s body beside her. She did not leave, nor would she. Behind her lay the wreckage of Xia Xue’s red sports car, and Robert’s henchmen didn’t dare come near. When Yelu Shou arrived, what he saw was this bizarre standoff.

"Where’s Xiao Lin? Why isn’t he with you guys?" Yelu Shou quietly asked upon seeing Consort Ling, Black Crow seemed to catch a scent and let out a low growl from inside the car, suddenly bounding out to spin in place before darting toward a nearby street.

"Follow it!" Yelu Shou urgently shouted. Lao Jiu was already flying after it before Yelu Shou finished speaking. Whatever Black Crow had found, it was a lead.

"Hua Qingyi is back; he followed after it."

Yelu Shou glanced at Grade Seven. "Was it the clown?"

Yelu Shou nodded, looking at the destroyed sports car and then towards the damaged surveillance at the exit and entrance, unmanned. This was Robert’s territory, and he never intended to let them leave.

"Get in the car!"

"You take Grade Seven’s body back to Sin City. I’ll find Xia Xue." Consort Ling called Yelu Shou because she didn’t want him to come to pick her up but hoped Grade Seven’s body could be buried properly. She must find Xia Xue; it was her mistake, and she had no face to see Xiao Lin.

"Do you plan on jumping into a trap alone? If they took Xia Xue, they’ll dig a pit for us to fall into." Yelu Shou hefted Grade Seven’s body into the trunk. "I’ve sent people to gather intel; for now, let’s trust our ’Dark’ group’s strength. To date, we’ve yet to encounter news we couldn’t obtain. Besides, we have Black Crow. Trust it to find its master, and as for Lao Jiu’s skills, you should know them well. Now is not the time for us to lose our heads. If Lin returns, he will want to know what transpired before and after, come with me to Sin City."

Consort Ling gave Yelu Shou an odd look; this ’Dark’ leader was becoming more like Xiao Lin, silently getting in the car with him. Once the car vanished from sight, the henchmen seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, slumping their shoulders.

"You can now report to the boss!"

Robert, who had been sitting in front of Shao Weihua, was fiddling with his phone. The waiting process always made people’s adrenaline surge, making them excited.

"Is there still no news?" Shao Weihua asked this question for the tenth time.

Robert frowned. It indeed had been a while, but not completely without news. The hand resting on his leg trembled suddenly, and the sound of a woman’s moan echoed. Shao Weihua slightly raised his eyes, a flash of disdain passing across his face. Robert, while taking a call, walked out of the room. The call was very brief, and before Shao Weihua could set down his cup, Robert had already returned.

"Mr. Shao, it’s done!" Robert, with a joyful expression, shook his phone as if he was trying to claim credit.

"Have you found Wang Zhanting?"

"No! The people sent out are still searching." Hmph, is this person still concerned about that? "Xia Xue is already in our hands, but I have some bad news to tell you."

Upon hearing that Xia Xue had been captured, Shao Weihua originally thought he would be excited. But for some unknown reason, his chest felt as if it was being tightly gripped, making it hard to breathe, and his face turned pale.

"Mr. Shao, are you okay?" Noticing something wrong with Shao Weihua, Robert immediately went over.

"I’m fine!" This kind of pain quickly vanished, and Shao Weihua felt inexplicably bewildered. "What’s the news you have to tell me?"

"One of the ’Black Crow’ members is dead."

"What? Who?"

"Code name Level 7!" Shao Weihua’s eyes widened in shock and he couldn’t utter a word.

Lao Jiu closely followed the crow racing down the street! The big creature seemed to know its specialty and always dashed through the dark alleys, never taking the main roads, which made Lao Jiu have to leap to keep up with the crow’s pace.

Suddenly, the crow ahead stopped abruptly, circling around a high wall, indicating a dead end. It raised its head and howled at a spot, the sound so loud that Lao Jiu could hardly approach.

"Shh!" Lao Jiu caught up, mimicking Xiao Lin’s usual method, he stroked the crow’s head but almost had his hand bitten off by the crow’s quick turn. It doesn’t recognize people at all! He silently cursed, but the crow quieted down as a result. "Is this the place?" Lao Jiu muttered to himself, the crow bit Lao Jiu’s trousers and tugged upwards vigorously.

"You want me to go up?" Guessing the crow’s intention, Lao Jiu looked around, then stepped his right foot out, onto a stack of goods nearby, and leaped up, gripping an outdoor air conditioning unit, and pushed himself up onto the high wall.

In front of him was a vast stretch of land with no sign of anyone around. "Strange, there’s nothing here!" He waved to the crow, indicating that there was nothing there. At that moment, the crow, likewise, leaped onto the spot where Lao Jiu had just landed. "Oh my gosh!" Seeing the crow’s form, Lao Jiu exclaimed in surprise. "What kind of monster are you?"

As if understanding Lao Jiu’s words, the giant claw suddenly swiped at Lao Jiu’s occiput, his red hair flying up; caught off guard by the sudden attack, Lao Jiu fell straight from the high wall. Fortunately, he reached out to avoid intimately contacting the ground.

This creature is definitely a monster, muttering a sentence; Lao Jiu dared not talk any further. The crow, however, was on the wall tilting its head, and in an instant, its massive form leaped forward, not giving Lao Jiu any chance to rest.

"Poor me!" He cursed before continuing to run forward following the crow.

The sea breeze hit his face, carrying a faint scent of blood! On a sandy ground, the crow was circling around what looked like a marsh-like area. Lao Jiu hurried over, grabbed a handful of wet sand, sniffed it at the tip of his nose. "It’s blood! Crow, keep searching, it’s nearby."

The sand was still warm, indicating that the blood was just left here. This stretch of coastline wasn’t a scenic spot, few people came here, and it seemed that the surrounding environment hadn’t been managed for a long time.

Whose bloodstain is this? The crow appeared to understand and after sniffing the blood’s scent with its nose, lifted its head, and sprinted wildly toward a reef, its speed astonishing Lao Jiu. In the blink of an eye, that figure seemed like Xiao Lin’s embodiment.

The wind brushed against his cheek, as if slicing through like a knife.

Wang Zhanting shivered as he looked at the person in front of him, his pupils darting, glancing at Xiao Lin, with no expression in his eyes.

"Kill me?" Wang Zhanting chuckled sinisterly. "Go ahead! Stab it in here."

Hua Qingyi roared angrily, waving the sharp knife in his hand, slashing across Wang Zhanting’s throat.

Clang, clang, clang! Wang Zhanting squinted his eyes, the metallic clanging sound sparked out dazzling sparks. Xiao Lin’s spike blocked before the sharp knife, and he met Hua Qingyi’s furious eyes.

"Are you still going to stop me?" (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, feel free to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets at Qidian (qidian.com). Your support is my greatest motivation.)
