Chapter 30 | Fighting The Sun Beast [1]
"We’re finally alone, huh?" Iris grinned as she stared at Alicar and Leon, a hint of excitement in her voice despite the dire situation. "That means we can finally talk!"
"Talk about what?" Leon titled his head, his brow furrowed with confusion at her sudden enthusiasm.
"I mean, you got a new class from Alicar, right? So did I!" Iris replied, her eyes gleaming with the shared secret.
"Oh," Leon finally understood everything at that moment, the pieces clicking into place in his mind.
He believed that he had been the only one to be given this extraordinary opportunity by Alicar, but the moment he heard that Iris was supposedly a farmer before, yet that she could now use powerful magic, he should have known the truth.
"No holding back anymore," Iris gazed at the Sun Beast, her voice filled with determination. "We gotta kill it!"
"Yeah," Alicar nodded, his focus entirely on the massive creature before them.
Meanwhile, the Sun Beast simply kept looking at them, the amused expression on its face never fading, as if it was enjoying this little drama.
It opened its mouth, and a raspy, guttural voice emerged, each word forced out with visible effort.
"Your... Companions... Dead..."
As soon as it finished letting out those words, it laughed again, a horrible sound that echoed through the temple, and it lifted one of its massive hands, pointing at the middle of the chamber where the portal had been.
"What the hell is it talking about?" Leon asked, a bead of sweat appearing on his forehead as unease crept into his voice.
"It’s taunting us," Alicar replied calmly, his expression unreadable. "Just calm down, we need everybody focused to defeat that thing."
At that moment, Iris summoned the power of her elements and launched several elemental balls at the Sun Beast, the projectiles streaking through the air with deadly precision.
The legendary-rank monster lifted its massive wings to tank the attack, but still, unlike before, it was obvious that they actually hurt it even though it was protecting itself.
Evolving the skills was a true game-changer, transforming their attacks from mere annoyances into genuine threats.
And this even made Alicar wonder just how strong the skills would be if they reached level 10, what kind of devastation they could unleash.
ROOOOAR!
It roared loudly, releasing a shockwave that shook the Sun Temple to its foundations, then it dashed forward, swinging its claws with intense speed that blurred through the air.
Alicar moved to the side at the last moment, his body barely avoiding the deadly strike, then he launched a water and lightning attack at the same time.
It struck the Sun Beast directly, stunning it in place just long enough for him to use his Demon Fist to smash through its defenses.
Boom!
The force of the punch was enough to send the Sun Beast flying back several meters, its massive body crashing against the temple floor with a sickening thud.
It bled, dark ichor pooling beneath it, but it quickly got up, shaking off the blow like it was nothing.
It was obvious that using such attacks alone wouldn’t be enough to finish this thing, it was simply too resilient.
And more worrying, Alicar felt his stamina drain significantly after using Demon Fist, his body already showing signs of exhaustion.
Stamina and Mana were two different things, the former for physical matters like his new martial techniques, while the latter was for magic and elemental attacks.
Alicar and Iris’ mana was enhanced thanks to the fact Six-Elements Affinity was now Level 2, giving them greater reserves and control, but Demonic Arts was still only Level 1, limiting its power.
Alicar continued his combo attack by releasing several ice spikes from the ground, impaling the Sun Beast in place as it roared in pain, its struggles weakening the frozen spears.
"Huh... do we do something?" Iris scratched the back of her head, watching Alicar fight with a mixture of awe and confusion. "Alicar seemed to be doing just fine by himself..."
"No idea," Leon shrugged, his eyes fixed on the battle. "Just gotta be careful I guess."
The battle between the two continued for a minute, as Alicar kept dodging the Sun Beast’s attacks and sending everything he had at it.
He gathered mana around his palm to force a giant flame spear, the heat radiating from it intense, and he launched it at the Sun Beast, scorching its skin and drawing more blood.
As a retort, it swung its claws repeatedly at him, forcing him to use Demon Guard, Vorgath’s image appearing right in front of Alicar to block the devastating blows.
Much like the first time, it still forced Alicar back a few meters, his feet sliding across the stone floor, and he spat some blood from the impact.
"I’d appreciate the help," he groaned as he looked at the other two, his voice strained with exertion.
Still, even without them, the Sun Beast was injured, its body covered in wounds that leaked dark blood.
Not only was it bleeding from its mouth due to the Demon Fist’s blow, but it had several marks and injuries all over its body from Alicar’s relentless assault.
It wouldn’t stand for much longer at this rate, its movements growing slower and more labored.
But still, Alicar was just as injured as it was, his body battered and bruised, and though he was still standing, one solid attack was all it would take to kill him.
And indeed, that is what it did, because with movement far quicker than anything done before, the Sun Beast swung at Alicar with devastating speed.
He was taken aback by the attack, his eyes widening as he saw the claws inches from his body, too fast for him to dodge.
But thankfully, that was when Leon decided to act, using Demon Guard as well to block the blow at the last possible moment.
The sheer strength of the attack was enough to make him kneel in place, his legs buckling under the pressure, blood pouring from his mouth from the exertion.
"H-Haha... that shit hurts..." he mumbled as he forced himself to get up, taking his fighting stance with sheer willpower. "Need to end this quick."
Alicar turned toward Iris at that moment, his mind racing with a desperate plan. "I don’t have the time to explain how to combine elements right now but... use everything you have for your next attack, I’ll stun it."
Iris nodded quickly, fire gathering in her palm as she started to create a fireball, making it grow larger and larger until it was the size of a small boulder, the heat radiating from it intense.
At the same time, Leon used every strength he had left to rush toward the Sun Beast, dodging an attack and punching it as hard as he could.
His Strength attribute in addition to his Super Strength passive from his first class boosted the attack’s power tremendously, the impact creating a shockwave.
The Sun Beast crashed against the temple’s wall as it was hit, its entire body shaking from the force, cracks spreading across the stone.
But before Leon could react, it swung its massive tail at him, and though he tried to use Demon Guard, it was simply too much.
SLAM!
The tail slammed into him, sending him crashing against the wall with devastating force, his body crumpling upon impact.
Leon fell to the ground, stomach flat and... he didn’t get up, or at least it seemed like he couldn’t, his body completely spent.
"Two... Left..."
The Sun Beast said with its usual disgusting voice, a cruel smile spreading across its beak.
