Chapter 2098: The End of the Road (IV)
Long Zhan’s immense body dao was necessary to support the false chaos. His blood qi, flesh and blood, energy, and life force would be the foundational investment!
And that was a requirement very difficult to achieve!
How would an overlord willingly hand over all of that?
However, fully incorporating an overlord into the false chaos would give it the only possibility and hope of developing to where it needed to be in the future. Otherwise, just Li Hao alone would find it incredibly difficult to reach that stage.
Everyone who died here today would become fertilizer for the new chaos. That included their dao, their flesh and blood, and everything about them!
Li Hao grinned.
Aren’t I great, little bro from the future?
I’m worried that you won’t make it to the step that I saw you at, with you wielding nearly five thousand daos. That makes you similar to where I am right now, which means that the dao rules in the false chaos are very strong. If you don’t, not even a complete sacrifice of everything I am will be enough!
The guy that he’d seen wouldn’t be the only powerhouse in the future either, there would be more around him.
Dao rules that weren’t strong enough would mean that there wasn’t enough to go around. How would that give rise to a powerful foundation?
Only today... was there a hope of the future developing the way he wanted, if he collected sufficient resources and capital now.
Long Zhan ignored the young man!
“Your subordinates might all be dying right now,” Li Hao transmitted. “But... you can also be at peace. If I succeed in establishing my chaos, they’ll be like my master. Their spirit will fill the new chaos!
“I might trick you, but I wouldn’t do that to my master. Your spirits might lose their memories as they become part of the new chaos, but they won’t lose their core origin. When they walk out of the false chaos in the future, they might be able to recover their memories!
“Everything will be reborn! But today, there is no hope for your race! Enter the false chaos. If you get on good terms with the future leader of the false chaos, then your goal of becoming totems for humanity might be realized!
“And if you’re lucky, your race will be the leaders in the future. What do you think, Long Zhan?”
Long Zhan’s body shook violently! He gnashed his teeth and didn’t make a sound.
Dream on!
Li Hao’s got quite the appetite to want to incorporate me into his new chaos! He wants me to willingly be dissolved into it. Not happening!
“Ai... we might run out of time if you keep dithering. You’ll be out of chances if you die. And that might spell the end of my attempt to establish a chaos. While I won’t die from it, your chaos race will truly be extinct!”
Boom!
A massive explosion rang through the void as a black tiger’s howl echoed through the regions. Kaboom...
Black Tiger blew apart. As it flew to pieces, it was still roaring, “Dragon master... kill Li Hao... You must kill him... even if that means the end of us...”
Black Tiger had been obliterated. Long Zhan’s heart missed a beat!
This one had been one of his generals. And now Black Tiger was dead with the upheaval in chaos dao.
A phoenix soared through the void.
Cracks littered Feng Yan’s body and she hovered in the air with a tragic air. “Father... let’s run!”
They should go!
She didn’t want revenge anymore. She saw her father surrounded on all sides and covered in blood. He might die at any moment.
This had been a war between Chaos Sky and Li Hao, but was now an issue of survival for the entire chaos race.
Long Zhan was an overlord yet to walk out of the four regions and lead the chaos beasts into their ascendancy. Today, he led them to their doom.
“Roar!!” Long Zhan howled with bleak fury. Was there really no hope for his kind??
They were part of chaos dao, but constrained by the ninth ranks. The ninth ranks just needed to pay a small price to deal grave injuries to them, and they might be fully exterminated today!
The dragon was the first, only, and possibly last overlord of his kind. Sorrow filled his eyes. There was nothing he could do!
“Chaos Sky!” he yelled. “Have your people save them!”
I’m here to help you today, that’s why I stopped Li Hao. The Nine Layer Guard has powerhouses over there, have them save Feng Yan and the rest!
“How is there an overlord who pins his hopes on others?” Li Hao’s chortle stabbed into his heart like a poisonous thorn. “This is why... you were never really an overlord. You were just a pathetic worm eking out a miserable survival!
“Your display of dominance and matchless strength was just a disguise. You knew a long time ago that your race couldn’t possibly rise up. You actually knew that all too well in the bottom of your heart.
“Your race’s dao is combined with chaos dao, and the ninth ranks are in the depths of the chaos. It’s ludicrous that you want to use it against them! Can you stand against two dozen ninth ranks?”
Could Long Zhan possibly do that?
Not at all.
Hence, the dragon had despaired from the very beginning. He’d always teetered on the edge of the abyss. He couldn’t see a way out, so he hesitated and walked around in circles, unable to confirm his final destination.
Where should he go?
He had no path to take!
This was the grief of a sovereign at the end of a dynasty, the helplessness of knowing the situation, but being unable to change it!
In the distance.
Chaos Sky frowned slightly. Save the chaos beasts?
How?
Withdrawal and the rest were over there, yes, but the fact that they hadn’t mounted a rescue yet meant that there were some difficulties. It might involve the collapse of order. His people might be struggling with problems of their own.
In fact, he was having a hard time too!
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to help. He was perfectly willing if that was a possibility. It would result in another helper for his side.
However... there was nothing he could do.
“Hang in there, Long Zhan,” Chaos Sky grunted. “They can’t maintain peak condition forever. They’ll start to weaken soon...”
Long Zhan’s last flickers of hope completely withered and died!
He understood that Chaos Sky might not be making excuses, but he burned with hatred all the same! And rage!
I’ve paid a higher price in this battle than you from beginning to end, and now all you say to me is hold on?!
My race will go extinct today! You just want me to hold on??
How about Withdrawal?? And all those guards of yours?! Why can’t they stop New Martial and Silver Moon, or Spring Autumn’s spirit monsters?!
Why can’t they??
The phoenix soaring through the void was already falling apart. That was his daughter. Her mother had already died to Li Hao for the grand enterprise of the chaos beasts. Was the same fate to befall the daughter today?!
The nine-tailed fox, master of Qingqiu Mountain, had just lost a family elder a few years ago. Black Tiger had lost a dao partner and was already dead...
And there was nothing he could do about any of it!
Existence had been clearly divided by the time he was born. The chaos beasts were destined to decline. Their fate had been delineated a million years ago!
The struggle of one million years hadn’t seemed to change anything other than grant the chaos beasts a few more eighth ranks! They remained pawns and ants in the eyes of humans from beginning to end!
“I... have failed...”
His entire life had been a huge failure.
He was born with a grand purpose, the spirit of the chaos had chosen him and made him the key in revitalizing the chaos. And yet, he’d failed to live up to his race’s expectations and hopes.
Their destinies had been long written. Chaos beasts would only have a tragic ending.
Start over?
Star over in a new chaos?
He’d turned up his nose at Li Hao’s proposal at first. Li Hao was an enemy, someone he wanted to kill. Li Hao was human and not a good person...
You want me to willingly go to my death in order to facilitate your chaos?
Dream on!
But Long Zhan was tempted in this moment. He saw the decline and extinction of his race. He saw too much and how unreliable everyone was.
The dragon was suddenly lost in thought.
Li Hao was the most vicious, cruel, and ruthless being out of everyone he knew. But somehow... there was also an inexplicable sense of trust mixed in with those notions.
The young man never seemed to have gone back on his word. Those who followed him were happier and stronger than those of New Martial. He almost never brought his people to battles that might result in their deaths.
It might be that he didn’t trust them enough, but maybe he thought that his death was better than someone else dying.
Thunder Emperor, Fog Mountain, Void, Orchid Forest, dao chess...
All those who followed him were hale and hearty, and much stronger than before. No one had died in the repeated conflict because someone else stood in front of them.
Li Hao!
Should I really start over?
Fight for my future again in the false chaos?
He’d once seen that the future still revered humanity. That seemed to be written in stone as well, human cultivators were the strongest. But the scene he’d seen... had also contained chaos beasts!
There were dragons! Chaos dragons! And chaos tigers...
Long Zhan continued to drift in space, permitting the three powerhouses to attack him. Was the future... certain?
“Li Hao, is there only one future?” He suddenly turned around and looked at Li Hao with bloodshot eyes.
“There are a myriad of futures, how is there only one?” Li Hao shook his head. “There is one past, one present, but a multitude of futures! There is no certain future and I can’t even say that there is only one future, despite wielding time...”
