Chapter 997: Part 2: Truth uncovered
Wilderness
Aahhhh!
Muffled grunts escaped the mouths of two beast tamers. They were Tier-5 Beast Tamers. Their hands and a few ribs were broken.
They were in no position to move.
"Don’t you dare bring out your lifeline beast. You will die before your lifeline beasts can save you," Jeremy said to them.
The two Beast Tamers were terrified. They didn’t know what was going on, but they felt exposed. The higher-ups had sent them to complete a mission.
They had met this person before that.
"I want you guys to answer my questions. If you fail to answer my questions, then I will kill you guys for sure."
"Because I know you are from the Darkshade Organization," Jeremy said to them.
The two Beast Tamers were genuinely terrified now. They didn’t expect the person to know about them. What shocked them was that the person in front of them seemed to be a Tier-4 Beast Tamer.
Yet he was able to knock them down. They thought some powerful family was involved. Their mental defense broke.
"We will tell you, but spare our lives," one of them said.
"I agree. Just spare our lives. We will tell you everything," the second person said. He was afraid that the person might silence them after getting the information.
Jeremy saw through their thoughts. He was glad that they were convinced.
"I will spare your lives. I’m not planning to kill you. But I want information in exchange. I want to know why the beast tide is happening so frequently," Jeremy said.
The two looked at each other. They didn’t have another choice. Bones were broken in their bodies.
"I will tell you..." After saying that, the second person took a deep breath. He was hurt. The searing pain was making him uncomfortable.
He said, "Actually, the beast tide is happening because of us. The higher-ups have been placing beast powder across the borders."
"It draws higher-tier beasts to the wilderness. Some of them naturally move towards the city," he added.
A storm raged in Jeremy Night’s heart. He didn’t expect the evil organization to play this big. It was surprising that they hadn’t been caught by the Governors.
"How come no one knows about it?" Jeremy asked.
Hearing that, the second person struggled to answer, but the first person said, "It’s hard to find evidence. The beast powder is a new product. We are testing it here in the wilderness."
"It’s just that the Tier-9 Beast has yet to appear," he added.
Jeremy Night asked, "Are you guys telling the truth?"
He could not detect any falsehood, but the information was too shocking. They were testing their product, and their goal was to attract a Tier-9 Beast.
"What are you guys going to do right now?" Jeremy asked.
The second person said, "We were given newly improved powder. The higher-ups asked us to place it near the border."
Jeremy heard that and his heart stirred further. Fortunately, he had come here. If he were not here, they would have attracted a Tier-9 Beast directly.
There was no guarantee that only one Tier-9 Beast would come. What if more than one Tier-9 Beast appeared in the wilderness?
They would definitely set their sights on the city. The city was an easy target for them. If that happened, the city would face a major crisis. There wouldn’t be enough time for them to call for help.
The Lords of the Human Alliance were not that close.
The city would be gone before their arrival. Jeremy Night thought of so many possibilities. He calmed his heart and looked toward them.
It was time to make a decision.
"Give me the powder," he said to them.
Hearing that, both of them hesitated.
"Do you think I will be at ease knowing that you guys have such a dangerous thing in your possession?" Jeremy said.
"What if the higher-ups ask?" the first person said.
"Just tell them you did your job. I don’t think they have time to check whether you guys did it or not. If I’m not wrong, you guys aren’t the only ones."
"The higher-ups must have sent four other people somewhere," Jeremy said to them.
"How did you know?" the second person asked.
He didn’t expect the person to know about their team. They had made the right decision to give in. Otherwise, their base would have faced a threat as well.
He then took out a silver box from his storage ring. It contained the newly improved beast powder.
"Don’t open it. The beasts nearby will go crazy," the first person said.
"Hmph," Jeremy snorted.
"The corrupted beasts are mad to begin with. You guys are making it even worse," Jeremy said.
He then accepted the box and placed it inside his storage ring.
"You guys can go now. If you reveal anything that happened here, I’ll leak the news to the media. I don’t trust the higher-ups they might have contacts in your organization," Jeremy said.
Hearing that, both of them were stunned. They didn’t expect him to be so clever. It was true that their organization had many insiders working for the government.
"Alright, we won’t say anything," the second person said.
"I’ll do the same," the first person said.
"Good," Jeremy uttered.
Swoosh!
Next, he used "Feathered Steps" and left the place. He didn’t want to kill them because he was taking a chance.
He was hoping that they wouldn’t tell their higher-ups yet. In the meantime, he could buy time to come up with a solution.
If he killed them, it could alert their organization. They might send people to investigate. If they knew they were exposed, they might do even more harm.
Swoosh!
Jeremy was going back to the city. On the way, he was using his brain to solve the problem. Earlier, he had said he didn’t trust the higher-ups. That was not a lie; it was true.
He knew that the backer behind the Darkshade Organization was a powerful person. He could not face such a person with his current strength.
Even the current Darkshade Organization was too much for him. If he were a Tier-6 or Tier-7 Beast Tamer, it would be a different matter. He could have easily injured their higher-ups.
His current strength was not enough. Otherwise, he would have stormed into their hideout earlier.
