Chapter 980: Part 2: Tragedy
4th Zone - Special Base
Jeremy Night was processing the information. He wanted to brief Elder John in great detail.
"Jeremy Night, what happened?" Elder John asked.
Hearing that, Jeremy Night raised his head. He looked into the eyes of Elder John.
He said, "Elder, I came across the corpses of the Tier-7 Beast Tamers in the wilderness."
After saying that, he explained the whole situation.
At first, Elder John’s expression was neutral. But when he heard about the corpses, his expression changed. He stood up from his seat.
"Are you telling the truth?" John asked.
"I have brought the corpses with me," Jeremy replied.
John then took out his device and phoned Elder Sandra about it. Elder Sandra was silent. She was experiencing shock and anger.
She then told John to bring Jeremy Night to the meeting hall.
A few minutes later,
Both of them left the elder’s office and went to the common meeting hall. When they got there, they saw Elder Sandra was already waiting for them.
Her expression was serious. She saw them coming.
"Take out the remains," she said to him.
Elder John turned towards Jeremy Night.
Jeremy Night then took out all 22 corpses from the storage ring. He placed the corpses on the ground.
The intact corpses, covered in mucous liquid, were laid out over the ground. Elder Sandra and John saw the corpses. Their expressions turned pale with fright.
They recognized the corpses. They were indeed the third-year students of the special base. Elder Sandra didn’t know what to say. She was quiet all this time.
Elder John was shocked to the core as well.
Jeremy Night was watching their expressions. He thought they must be figuring out the reason. Their deaths were not caused by an ordinary worm beast.
Swoosh!
One after another, elders appeared in the main hall. Sandra had already notified them earlier. They had come to the place, including Elder Carter.
Everyone saw the corpses on the ground.
"What’s going on here?" Carter asked.
The other elders raised the same question as well. Only Elder John and a few others were thinking about the worm beasts.
Sandra said, "It must be Tier-8 Beasts."
Hearing that, everyone quieted down. They pondered.
Carter said, "The loss this time is going to be severe as well. The Tier-9 Beast is playing with us again."
"The Tier-9 Worm Beast is cunning. It wanted to wipe out the beast tamers in the special base again," another elder said.
"We should call back our members," a female elder said.
Next, everyone made the collective decision. Elder Sandra’s expression changed drastically.
She said, "Contact the elders outside. They should inform the Beast Tamers."
Everyone agreed in the end. Elder John then looked at Jeremy Night. He knew that if not for Jeremy Night, they wouldn’t have found the truth.
When the elders left the place, he brought Jeremy Night back to the office. Inside the office, both sat opposite each other.
"Jeremy Night, you did well. If you hadn’t brought the corpses, then no one would have believed you," he said.
Hearing that, Jeremy Night replied by saying, "I’m glad that the elders made a fast decision. There must be Tier-8 Worm Beasts hidden in the wilderness."
"Yes, since everyone is going to be called back, you stay here in the base. Don’t enter the wilderness without an order from me," John said in a serious tone.
Jeremy nodded to him. Next, they spoke for another few minutes. John recalled the close combat technique.
When he mentioned it, Jeremy Night showed him the vibration. Elder John was taken aback. He didn’t expect Jeremy Night to succeed faster than expected.
Since Jeremy Night had succeeded in starting the close combat technique, John thought Jeremy Night had one more life-saving ability. He wouldn’t be defenseless if he lost his weapon.
A few minutes later,
Jeremy Night left the elders’ office. He went back to the accommodation building. He wanted to take a deep rest after returning to his room.
10 minutes later,
He did just that. After reaching his room, he shut the door and went to the bed to lie down. He didn’t know when he fell asleep.
Meanwhile,
The elders in the wilderness got the call from the base. They learned what had happened. Immediately, they informed the Beast Taming Teams in their area.
The Beast Taming Teams were terrified. Knowing that they wouldn’t survive against the Tier-8 Worm Beasts, they started the return journey to the base.
Similarly, the elders in other parts of the wilderness shared the details with the Beast Tamers in their vicinity.
As time passed, the beast tamers in the deeper parts of the wilderness surrounding the base were coming back.
The sudden departure of the Beast Taming Teams was sensed by the worm beasts hiding in that area.
They were waiting further for orders from the Tier-9 Worm King. But the Tier-9 Worm King didn’t give any new orders.
Even the Tier-8 Worm Beasts went back into hiding.
Meanwhile,
Elder Sandra reported to the higher-ups of the Human Alliance. She got confirmation in return that Tier-9 Beast Tamers from the Human Alliance would reach the special base today.
After hearing that, she put her heart at ease. But she was not happy at all. She was getting reports that the casualty rate was high.
Specifically, the second and third-year members were targeted. 22 members were killed among the third-years.
She was angry. But she didn’t want to repeat her previous mistake. She was going to wait for the Lords from the Human Alliance to arrive first.
She believed that the Tier-9 Worm King might be expecting her to make a rash decision. She wouldn’t be surprised if the Tier-9 Worm King was waiting to ambush them in the wilderness.
But the Tier-9 Worm Beast didn’t know that she wasn’t going to fall for the trap again. She didn’t plan to inform the elders about the Human Alliance.
She wanted them to reach the place first. Next, she went back to her office. She thought of the young man, Jeremy Night. She felt glad that John had enrolled that kid.
She knew that if not for that kid, she would be completely blinded by the Tier-9 Worm King’s schemes.
