Chapter 1605: Nervous Wreck
"What do you mean, only a few tens of millions?" Bai Lan suddenly felt like he and Murong Hai didn’t belong to the same world at all.
Even though Murong Hai had already told him about what had happened to him before, Bai Lan still felt he didn’t quite deserve him.
He was like a little ugly duckling who’d never seen the world, while Murong Hai was like that high-and-mighty Prince.
Maybe Murong Hai could see what was going on in his head, because he directly pulled him aside.
"Don’t overthink it. Back when I was at the security company, we took on a lot of jobs like this. Every time there was a jewelry exhibition, we’d be in charge of security there. At first we were still surprised a couple of times, but once you’ve seen enough, it just feels normal."
After hearing Murong Hai’s explanation, Bai Lan suddenly understood.
Turns out he’d been overthinking it. Because of work, Murong Hai had seen so much that he naturally didn’t care about these things.
Led by the waiter, they soon arrived at Xu Ke’s private room.
Xu Ke had specially chosen a very quiet private room, so not only would they not be disturbed, it was also convenient for them to talk.
As soon as they walked in, Xu Ke and Xiao Keyi’s gaze immediately landed on Bai Lan.
Right after he stepped inside, Bai Lan felt two blazing gazes fall on him.
In an instant he felt a huge pressure, his whole body suddenly tensing up.
"Ah Hai, so this is your girlfriend! I’ve heard you talk about her for so long, this is the first time we’re meeting."
Xu Ke took the initiative to break the awkwardness and greeted Bai Lan first.
"Hello, President Xu, I’m Bai Lan from the design department."
Bai Lan’s voice was very soft; if you didn’t listen carefully, you wouldn’t hear it at all.
Everyone could tell that Bai Lan was very nervous at the moment.
"Bai Lan, you don’t have to be so nervous. We’re not in the office right now, you don’t need to be so restrained. Ah Hai and I are very good friends. Just treat this like your own home and relax."
Xu Ke came across as very friendly, which instantly eased a lot of the tension in Bai Lan’s heart.
"Then thank you, Xu Ke. I’ve always heard Ah Hai talk about you." As he spoke, Bai Lan quickly hid by Murong Hai’s side.
Seeing Bai Lan like this, Xiao Keyi couldn’t help laughing on the side.
"Lanlan, you really look nervous. I’m guessing this is your first time meeting us. We’re not some man-eating monsters, you don’t have to be so scared." As she said that, Xiao Keyi directly sat down next to Bai Lan.
This was the first time Bai Lan had seen Xiao Keyi, and he was instantly conquered by her enchanting looks.
He’d always heard people say Xu Ke’s girlfriend was very beautiful, and now that he’d finally seen her, he could believe it.
This wasn’t just beautiful, she was absolutely stunning!
Even someone like Bai Lan, who was usually very confident in himself, started to feel a little unsettled inside.
Seeing how nervous he was, Xiao Keyi simply reached out and held his small hand.
"Lanlan, didn’t I just say it? You don’t have to be so nervous. Do I look like a bad person to you? Do the two of us look that scary?"
"Not scary. Keyi-jie, you look so beautiful!"
At this moment, Bai Lan finally mustered up the courage to look Xiao Keyi in the eyes.
"That’s more like it. We’re all family here, so there’s no need to be so uptight. Lanlan, you’re really pretty too. The moment I saw you I could tell you take good care of yourself."
What Xiao Keyi said went straight to Bai Lan’s heart; he’d always been very knowledgeable when it came to skincare and maintenance.
Two women can easily hit it off because of similar interests.
In no time at all, the nervousness Bai Lan had felt earlier completely disappeared.
In its place, he had already totally hit it off with Xiao Keyi.
Murong Hai didn’t feel like saying much at this point. All that talking he’d done on the way here was basically for nothing; a couple of words from Xiao Keyi worked better than anything.
Sure enough, only women really understand women.
Watching the two women chatting away enthusiastically, Murong Hai and Xu Ke exchanged a helpless look.
Once women start talking, there’s really nothing for the men to do. The two of them were completely left hanging on the side.
"Hey, before you two keep chatting, shouldn’t we at least order first? Or do you want us to sit here and go hungry with you?" Xu Ke said helplessly from the side.
"What’s the rush? If you’re hungry, just order for yourselves first. Lanlan and I still have things to talk about." As she said this, Xiao Keyi dove back into an intense discussion with Bai Lan.
Xu Ke was utterly speechless now. Women really were terrifying when they got to chatting.
So he stopped trying to manage Xiao Keyi and directly called the waiter in. The four of them ordered a lot of dishes.
Even though this was a Western restaurant, the variety of dishes here was actually quite rich.
Xu Ke normally liked to eat seafood, and they had everything here.
After ordering some of his own favorites and Xiao Keyi’s favorites, he handed the menu to Murong Hai.
"Order whatever you want, I’m picking up the tab today."
As soon as he heard Xu Ke was paying, Murong Hai instantly stopped being polite.
He went ahead and ordered a bunch of things he usually couldn’t bring himself to splurge on, and then ordered some of Bai Lan’s favorites.
While they were waiting for the food, Xu Ke started chatting with Murong Hai.
"Ah Hai, you and Jane really worked hard for this job fair. Once the company gets through this period, I’ll make sure you get a proper vacation."
Murong Hai actually didn’t feel tired over these two days. Compared to sitting around doing nothing at the company, he preferred this kind of busy feeling.
On top of that, he’d learned a lot these two days and suddenly felt his own experience was a bit lacking.
"Xu Ke, it’s really nothing. Once tomorrow’s job fair is over, I figure the company will be able to get on the right track. When that time comes, you won’t have to worry so much."
Murong Hai had long noticed that Xu Ke had been working overtime late into the night these last few days.
Many times, even at ten at night, the light in Xu Ke’s office was still on.
Xiao Keyi had already called him several times late at night asking where Xu Ke was.
"Yeah, once this job fair is over, the company will be on track too. But all that has to wait until that annoying gathering is done."
Just thinking about that gathering gave Xu Ke a headache.
These past few days, the old Mr. Xu had been busy with this non-stop.
By Xu Ke’s rough estimate, there would be at least fifty people coming this time.
And all of them were presidents of various companies at home and abroad. Just thinking about all these people coming here made Xu Ke feel a bit helpless.
He’d never liked dealing with people like that, but now that his grandfather had pushed things this far, he had no choice even if he didn’t want to.
Xu Ke also knew this was a major event for the Xu Group, but he just couldn’t work up any interest.
All he could think about now was getting this whole thing over with as soon as possible so he could do what he wanted afterward.
