Chapter 1541: Panic in the Boardroom
Since she already had a new goal, Wang Cuixia decided to take matters into her own hands.
After all, this was about their internal company affairs, even though he trusted everyone in the family dearly.
But you can’t rule out the possibility of gaps arising, and to ensure everything goes smoothly, Wang Cuixia had to handle this kind of internal matter personally.
Moreover, he had to first inform Mr. Xu about this matter, because only with his approval could Wang Cuixia really let loose and act boldly.
After parting ways with Xiao Keyi, Wang Cuixia planned to consult Mr. Xu.
But when he searched the whole house, he couldn’t find any trace of Mr. Xu.
Even Xu Hua had inexplicably disappeared along with him.
Wang Cuixia suddenly found it very strange; given his current physical condition, Mr. Xu couldn’t possibly have gone far alone.
And knowing his husband Xu Hua as well as he did, when he had nothing to do during the day, he would almost always be at home; but now both of them were gone, suggesting they must have gone out together.
The more he thought about it, the stranger it seemed, so Wang Cuixia picked up the phone and called Xu Hua.
At the time, Xu Hua was accompanying Mr. Xu in a park pavilion playing chess.
Since the father and son reconciled, Xu Hua had been taking Mr. Xu out to various places to relax every day.
Although Mr. Xu wished not to go to the hospital for check-ups anymore, Xu Hua still took him personally to the hospital for check-ups from time to time.
According to the good news from the hospital a few days ago, it’s very likely they can soon uncover the real condition of Mr. Xu’s illness.
If true, then Mr. Xu could receive targeted treatment and perhaps recover his health.
"Son, it’s your turn!" Mr. Xu urged beside him.
"Alright, alright, Dad, I’m getting to it right now."
Looking at the chessboard, Xu Hua was momentarily perplexed about what move to make.
He rarely saw Mr. Xu playing chess, but the level of skill Mr. Xu displayed today was incomparable, akin to that of a chess master.
Xu Hua thought his own chess skills were already superb, yet before his father, he felt like he would always be a child, regardless of the aspect.
By this point, Mr. Xu had cornered him, leaving Xu Hua with only two possible moves.
But no matter how he looked at them, both moves seemed like dead ends.
If he sacrificed the horse, it would be directly captured by the enemy’s pawn.
But if he didn’t move the horse out, his own general would be blocked.
Seeing Xu Hua anxious, Mr. Xu couldn’t help but chuckle.
He hadn’t seen such a scene for many years; the last time such a thing happened was during Xu Hua’s childhood.
"Son, you haven’t changed a bit over these years. What you see in front of you is all an illusion; only by looking beyond appearances can you find the true essence," Mr. Xu’s words reminded Xu Hua of the time he played chess with his father when he was young.
Back then, he was a novice, and Mr. Xu, though not much better, always managed to win.
After playing several times, Xu Hua slowly figured out the knack.
But as his skill increased, he noticed Mr. Xu seemed to progress with him.
Yet every time, his father remained just a little bit better, and that was enough to keep him from winning.
One time, Xu Hua was about to win, yet Mr. Xu counterattacked and cornered him, leaving young Xu Hua bewildered.
The situation then was very similar to now; Xu Hua suddenly felt like he was back in his childhood.
Faced with two paths, both seeming like dead ends.
Xu Hua recalled Mr. Xu’s old sayings about how what you see isn’t always the truth and what you hear isn’t always everything.
Analyzing the chessboard, Xu Hua suddenly noticed an inconspicuous little pawn in the bottom right corner.
Unbeknownst to him, this pawn had crossed the river, and just ahead was Mr. Xu’s chariot.
Suddenly realizing something, Xu Hua immediately put his pawn in front of the chariot.
That insightful move instantly reversed the situation on the board.
Seeing Xu Hua’s maneuver sparked Mr. Xu’s interest.
He didn’t expect, at this moment, that this boy would comprehend such a thing.
"Not bad, you rascal! I thought you’d never understand this in your lifetime, yet today you taught me a lesson. Looks like my son is finally grown up; he’s become someone who can handle things independently."
The game ended with Xu Hua’s victory; he felt elated, as it was his first time ever winning a chess game against his father.
Looking at Mr. Xu’s kindly face, Xu Hua was suddenly overwhelmed with emotion.
All of this felt like a dream; Xu Hua doubted whether it was truly real.
Yet Mr. Xu looked at Xu Hua calmly, as if what just transpired was nothing to him, although the smile at the corner of his lips proved he cared deeply about the matter.
"Xu Hua, all these years, the father has always been apologetic toward you. I hope you don’t resent me — it was only out of worry for you. Since your mother passed, you’ve been growing distant from me. When I learned you were attempting something groundbreaking, my heart was filled with unease. I yearned for you to fulfill your dreams, yet feared you’d leave me."
Listening to Mr. Xu speak about this, Xu Hua felt a myriad of mixed emotions.
His mother’s passing had been an indelible knot in his heart.
Because of her passing, he began to distance himself from his father.
The subsequent events only served as a trigger, igniting his long-standing resentment.
"Dad, it’s all in the past. Mom, in her heavenly spirit, wouldn’t want us to be mired in painful memories."
All these years, Xu Hua had long since moved on. Though he still harbored unresolved feelings about his mother’s past, he understood that no amount of resentment could bring her back.
Rather than living in perpetual agony, it was better to view things more openly.
Just then, Wang Cuixia’s call came through.
Toward his wife, Xu Hua always felt he owed her something, which is why he always treated Wang with utmost kindness.
Wang Cuixia treated him very well too; their relationship was one of mutual respect and consideration.
