Chapter 162: Transmigration Timeline II
"Oh..."
Xie Rong paused after that mere "Oh..." as though he was trying to recall all the basic knowledge and details he had gathered about Gemi.
"Actually, I think before you arrived, all the missions I received had nothing to do with you."
Wang Gege turned toward him. "Nothing to do with me?"
"Yes." Xie Rong nodded. "Before you arrived, none of the missions mentioned you, and Gemi never told me that there would be another transmigrator coming here... or perhaps it simply couldn’t."
He paused for a moment.
"Most of the missions were related to Xie Rong’s original fate, the Xie family, or things that could help me survive in this ancient world. For example, restoring this eye, obtaining the language potion, and other things that made it easier for me to adapt to this world."
Wang Gege listened quietly.
"So..." Xie Rong continued, "before you arrived, Gemi’s missions had nothing to do with Favorability Points?"
Xie Rong nodded. "Hmm... About a week before the wedding, Gemi suddenly gave this one a new mission."
He paused, seemingly recalling the exact wording.
[MISSION: MARRY THE SECOND DAUGHTER OF THE SHEN FAMILY AND INCREASE THE TARGET’S FAVORABILITY.]
Wang Gege’s brows furrowed. "That was the first time?"
"Yes." Xie Rong nodded. "Before that, Gemi had never mentioned anything about increasing someone’s Favorability."
He paused, seeming to recall the events from that time. "But this one had already asked Mo Yan to keep an eye on Shen Taotao from time to time even before the mission was issued."
Wang Gege raised her brows. "Why?"
"Because of the situation surrounding the Shen family." Xie Rong’s expression became thoughtful.
"This one knew that the Shen family had been trying to arrange this marriage, and there were too many strange things surrounding the Second Miss. This one was simply curious about this Second Miss, so I asked Mo Yan to keep an eye on her."
Wang Gege nodded slowly. "So you were already keeping an eye on Shen Taotao before Gemi gave you that mission?"
"Yes." Xie Rong nodded. "She had a strange habit and loved to talk—"
He suddenly stopped.
Wang Gege instantly understood the pause.
She looked at him quietly before saying, "Yes. She completed her mission and returned to her own world."
Xie Rong’s expression changed. "You knew?"
"Mini told me."
He remained silent for a moment.
So the Shen Taotao he had known before Wang Gege arrived was indeed another transmigrator.
And she left this world the moment Wang Gege came.
"Then..." Xie Rong’s brows slowly furrowed. "When you arrived here, you were replacing her?"
"I suppose you could say that."
Wang Gege rolled her eyes, still trying to connect all the pieces of the tangled timeline in her head.
"Ah..." She shook her head. "This is confusing, really..."
Before either of them could continue, Qing’er hurried back from the main hall.
"Young Master, Young Madam..." She bowed hastily. "Both of you need to hurry. Master Xie is furious now."
The two of them immediately prepared to leave for the main hall, but before they could take more than a few steps, another voice suddenly came from behind them.
"Young Master... Young Madam..."
They turned around.
Yun’er slowly emerged from her hiding place behind the chamber, her expression anxious and her hands nervously clasped together.
"Young Master, Young Madam... please allow this servant to follow both of you." She swallowed hard. "This servant cannot remain here waiting any longer. The anxiety is truly killing this servant."
Xie Rong frowned, looking at her with clear confusion. "Who are you?"
Yun’er immediately hurried forward and bowed deeply. "This servant greets the Young Master. This servant is Yun’er, the maid of the late Madam Liu."
Xie Rong then turned toward Wang Gege, silently asking for an explanation.
"She was the witness to Madam Liu’s death..." Wang Gege immediately explained.
Yun’er lowered her head, her fingers nervously twisting together.
"This servant was there at that moment. This servant saw what happened to Madam Liu, but..." Her voice trembled. "This servant was too afraid to say anything at that time."
Xie Rong’s expression became serious. "And now?"
Yun’er swallowed hard.
"Now that Young Miss Xie has..." She hesitated, clearly struggling to put her thoughts into words. "This servant is afraid that if something happens again, this servant may not survive either."
Wang Gege frowned.
"So you want to follow us because you are afraid someone will silence you?" Xie Rong continued questioning.
Yun’er immediately nodded, "Yes, Young Master."
Xie Rong’s gaze remained on her for a moment before shifting toward Wang Gege. "How reliable is her testimony?"
Wang Gege’s expression became thoughtful.
"She was the one who came forward and told me what she witnessed. I haven’t had the chance to investigate everything yet, but she actually has proof."
Yun’er immediately lowered herself further. "This servant is willing to tell the Young Master everything I know."
Xie Rong’s expression darkened slightly.
"Then stay close to us." He turned toward the main hall. "If what you know concerns Madam Liu’s death, this husband will hear it after we deal with the matter at hand."
Yun’er hurriedly followed them, finally looking slightly relieved.
Wang Gege glanced at Xie Rong. "You’re really going to bring her along?"
Xie Rong nodded.
"If she truly witnessed what happened, leaving her behind while the household is in chaos would be dangerous."
He paused.
"And if someone is responsible for Madam Liu’s death, they may already know that she is still alive and might be searching crazily for her."
Wang Gege’s expression became serious as she glanced toward Yun’er. "Then stay close to us. Do not wander off on your own."
"This servant understands," Yun’er immediately replied.
The three of them hurried toward the main hall, with Qing’er leading the way. As they approached, the sound of raised voices could already be heard from inside, followed by the sharp crash of something breaking.
Wang Gege’s footsteps slowed.
"What’s happening?"
No one answered.
The moment they entered the main hall, the scene before them made all of them freeze.
Xie An’an was sprawled on the floor, her hair disheveled and her clothes in complete disarray. One hand tightly clutched a sharp piece of broken porcelain, its edge pressed against her own neck.
Old Madam Xie stood several steps away, her face pale with fury and fear, while Master Xie was shouting at the servants to keep their distance.
"Don’t come any closer!" Xie An’an screamed, pressing the broken piece closer to her neck. "Or this one will end this one’s life!"
