Chapter 93: Giant Serpent
The body of this mutated giant snake was definitely over a meter in diameter. Its dark, glossy scales were exceptionally hard, gleaming with a terrifying cold light under the sun. Protruding bone spikes had even sprouted along its spine.
The megalophobia etched into human DNA made most people’s skin crawl. Outside the water plant, many were so terrified they lost their minds, turning into statues incapable of movement.
Damn it! If this thing leveled up a few more times, would humanity even stand a chance?
Humanity had spent two million years climbing to the top of the food chain, building cities, and flying into space, believing themselves omnipotent.
But after the apocalypse began, none of that mattered. Aberrant Beasts and zombies of the Third Rank and above were starting to withstand attacks from small human firearms.
These creatures and monsters, born and evolved over a mere few months, were currently reclaiming the lands once occupied by humanity.
Luna Dawson gritted her teeth and glared at the giant snake. "Since our species both want to devour each other, let’s see who’s better!" she thought.
The giant snake’s body coiled by the riverbank. Its tail smashed the frozen river surface to pieces, and countless ice shards rained down onto its scales, making everyone’s hearts clench.
A young Gold Element Superpower User engaged in the battle couldn’t dodge the thrashing tail in time. He was sent flying with a vicious whip, crashing into a large tree over ten meters away. One of his legs snapped instantly, the thigh bone piercing through the skin at a grotesque angle.
"AH!"
"AHH! AHHHH!"
The wails of dozens of people—those who had been sent flying by the snake but hadn’t completely lost consciousness—rose and fell in succession.
Luna hurriedly clipped a mini camera to her chest. She darted toward the edge of the woods and, using her momentum, bounded up to the highest tree branch—barely twenty meters away from the giant snake. Hoisting an RPG onto one shoulder, she grabbed a megaphone with her free hand and screamed at the top of her lungs, "Hey! You stinky snake!"
The giant snake’s pupils instantly shrank into thin slits as it hissed, flicking its forked tongue.
Wasn’t this the little snack it had just blasted into oblivion with a Water Bomb?
It extended its tongue to sniff the air. On one side was Luna’s scent; on the other was the sweet aroma coming from the water plant. It immediately opened its massive jaws, lined with inward-curving fangs, preparing to channel its superpower and launch another Water Bomb at Luna.
"HISS... HISS..."
Meanwhile, Kevin Keane and the others were also drawn by Luna’s voice.
Miles Dawson stared at the half of the forest that had been leveled by the Water Bomb, his voice cracking as he screamed, "Luna! Are you crazy? Dodge!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, a dense barrage of Fireballs rained down on the giant snake as if they cost nothing. The basketball-sized Fireballs smashed into the beast, sending white smoke billowing from its mouth.
Kevin’s eyes widened so much they nearly tore at the corners. "Get out of the way!" he roared, his throat tightening. "Do you have a death wish?"
Evan Olson immediately followed up with a secondary attack. Wind Blades showered down on the giant snake’s eyes like rain. "Luna! Run!"
Right at that moment—BOOM!
The rocket struck the giant snake directly in its massive mouth, without the slightest deviation!
Half of the giant snake’s jaw was blown to pieces. Several hooked fangs were sent flying. Dark green slime gushed from the corners of its mouth, and both of its eyes were instantly scorched black, completely blinding it.
"HISS!!!"
It thrashed its head in agony, wildly flicking its half-severed tongue. It rolled frantically along the riverbank, smashing and crashing into everything like a lunatic.
Luna put away the RPG, flipped down from the tree, and charged straight at the giant snake. Her movements were so insanely fast it looked like she was using cheat codes.
The remaining dozen or so Superpower Users and dozens of water plant soldiers nearby immediately retreated again and again, terrified of being caught in the crossfire.
"My god! This girl is ruthless!"
The giant snake went entirely berserk. With a single whip of its tail, it flipped a row of cars parked by the road, creating a piercing screech of grinding metal that could cause tinnitus.
Evan’s expression changed drastically. He hurriedly channeled his Wind Ability, grabbing Kevin and Miles—who were still fiercely attacking—by either side to pull them back. They narrowly escaped the attack range of the tail, which was thrashing so fast it left afterimages.
Just as the three dodged, they saw Luna bound onto the roof of the tallest vehicle in a few strides. The RPG instantly reappeared in her hands. She hoisted it onto her shoulder, aimed it right at the giant snake’s ruined mouth, and fired another shot.
"Die!"
The entire process was perfectly smooth and seamless. She was so decisive that it hardly seemed like her first time doing this!
The nearby soldiers watched in dumbfounded shock, whispering incessantly.
"Isn’t this little girl a bit too fierce?"
"Facing a giant snake as tall as a three-story building, and she’s not panicking at all?"
"I’m totally in awe. If it were me, I would’ve pissed my pants, but she actually dares to charge up and attack it point-blank!"
They all felt ashamed of their inferiority. None of them could remain so calm and decisive while facing a breathing three-story building! Yet Luna faced such a berserk monster with crisp, unwavering efficiency.
No one noticed that Luna’s peach-blossom eyes were filled with excitement, looking just like a starving tigress that had finally spotted prey after a long winter.
The Third-stage Mutated Water Crystal Core had to be hers!
Although blind, the giant snake still had its tongue. Vaguely sensing danger, it whipped its head around and used its tail to forcibly tank the incoming rocket.
BOOM!
With another massive explosion, the snake’s tail and head were blasted black, though astonishingly, its scales were not penetrated. Dark red blood poured from the corners of its mouth, quickly pooling into a puddle on the ground.
It despised Luna with a blinding madness. Using the last ounce of its strength, it utilized its remaining tongue to lock onto her scent.
Even if it died, it was going to drag this little snack down with it!
The forked tongue suddenly extended by several meters, its surface coated in a layer of water film, and shot toward Luna like an arrow!
Everyone was stunned. They didn’t even have time to yell "Watch out!" Some even covered their eyes.
"It’s over! It’s over!"
"She’s going to be skewered like a kebab!"
Luna stared at the giant snake. Its movements seemed to play out in slow motion before her eyes, frame by frame. Raising her left hand, two massive water tornadoes abruptly surged from the river, shattering the icy surface.
SPLASH!
The giant snake opened its jaws wide, its dense, inward-curving teeth gleaming with a chilling light. Guided by Luna, the superpower within her body surged explosively into the water tornadoes.
WHOOSH!
The torrent of water possessed a devastating, destructive force, pouring straight down the giant snake’s throat!
Just as the snake’s tongue was less than half a meter away from Luna—KABOOM!
A purple thunder dragon, nearly a meter thick, descended from the sky. It directly enveloped the crashing waves surrounding the giant snake’s head. Electricity sizzled, traveling along the current of water to tightly coil around the half-severed tongue.
The water and lightning struck simultaneously, moving too fast for the naked eye to track!
The giant snake didn’t even have time to struggle. Its head was instantly charred black, and the stench of burnt protein wafted far and wide. It was absolutely, thoroughly dead.
With a heavy THUD, the giant snake’s body slammed viciously onto the ground. The dark red blood mixed with the river water, creating an exceptionally shocking and gruesome sight.
Blasted by the water tornadoes, the giant snake’s tail tumbled into the river, bobbing with the current.
Luna herself was given a scare. At the exact moment of her attack, she had subconsciously raised a one-meter-thick water wall in front of herself for defense!
She took a large leap backward. The snake’s tongue had been a mere ten centimeters away from her; it had nearly skewered her.
Luna’s heart was still pounding. "I was definitely too impulsive. I got way too close!" she thought.
With her superpower entirely depleted, she hurriedly gulped down a large mouthful of Crystal Core Solution to regain her mobility.
Miles and Evan’s shouts were still stuck in their throats. Their frantic expressions were frozen on their faces, making them look like internet reaction memes.
Meanwhile, Kevin was kneeling on one knee, drenched in sweat. He barely had the strength left to lift his head.
Thankfully, he had synchronized his attack and dealt the finishing blow in time. Otherwise, Luna would have suffered severe injuries!
Luna quickly ran over, feeling too guilty to meet his eyes. "Um... Coach Keane, thanks for that."
Kevin gasped for breath. He looked up and glared at her, his tone fierce enough to eat a person alive. "Luna! If you ever dare to charge in like that again, I will break your legs! Do you hear me?!"
Being called out like that, Luna felt entirely enveloped by his intense fury. She muttered under her breath, "I know, I know..."
The nearby soldiers and Superpower Users remained absolutely floored by the scene before them. It took them a long while to recover their senses, after which they huddled together in hushed discussions.
"My god, what Rank are their superpowers? That was way too absurd!"
"That lightning was incredible!"
"Water... Was that a Water Ability?"
"A water tornado?!"
"Is anyone else’s heart still racing? Mine practically jumped out of my chest just now!"
