Chapter 94: Third-order Crystal Core
Luna Dawson stole a glance at the still-angry Kevin Keane, then looked at the giant snake’s corpse on the ground, her eyes lighting up.
The Third-order Crystal Core was hers!
Hiding the excitement in her eyes, Luna immediately crouched down to support Kevin, hurriedly taking out a cup of Crystal Core Solution.
She carefully coaxed Sourpuss Keane. "Hehe, Head Coach Keane, don’t be mad. Have some water to recover and keep your voice down."
Kevin raised his trembling hand, incredibly weak as he tried to take the water cup.
Luna perceptively brought it right to his lips. Perhaps because she had never helped anyone drink before, she tipped it too forcefully, making Kevin choke and cough repeatedly. His large hand gripping her arm tightened significantly.
Actually, the water had stirred up a storm in Kevin’s heart; he had forgotten to swallow, which was the real reason he ended up choking and coughing non-stop.
The moment the Crystal Core Solution entered his stomach, an endless stream of energy surged through his entire body. It completely filled his thoroughly exhausted superpower pathways, even giving him the sensation that the power was about to overflow!
Evan Olson and Miles Dawson finally came to their senses, hurrying over to help support Kevin.
Luna was terrified that Kevin’s acting skills wouldn’t be up to par and others would notice his superpower had recovered, so she quickly took out a Hummer.
"Let’s get you in the car first. Don’t let anyone else see that you’ve recovered!" she leaned in and quietly reminded him in a low voice.
Kevin was just about to look up and ask something when he met Luna’s lowered face. Her scent washed over him, and her watery eyes were filled with concern.
He responded with a low hum, "Mhm."
"Miles, lock the car doors. Don’t open them without my word!" After turning around to give her orders, Luna looked at Evan, her tone leaving no room for argument. "The Third-tier Water Element Crystal Core is mine."
Evan glanced at the giant snake nearby and frowned as he complained, "This Third Rank mutated snake is too thick-skinned. Even rockets couldn’t blow through its scales. Digging out the Crystal Core will be a bit tricky."
Luna’s expression remained calm. Her gaze swept back and forth across the snake’s head. She narrowed her eyes and walked straight over.
The people around had long been terrified by the giant snake. Just moments ago by the river, this monster had killed dozens and injured hundreds. Right now, everyone was afraid it wasn’t completely dead, backing away one after another. They either helped the wounded or watched from a distance.
The two of them circled the snake’s head twice, taking turns using a dagger and a short knife to pry at the scales on top. However, the scales on the head were the thickest. Luna’s Triangular Bayonet struck with enough force to send sparks flying, yet it still failed to break through its defenses.
"Damn it!"
Luna jumped up in anger and stomped viciously on the snake’s head. Blackish-green slime poured out of its mangled mouth with a SPLATTER.
Her eyes lit up as a wicked idea sprang to mind.
The next second, she began undressing right in front of everyone.
Evan immediately panicked. Flustered, he didn’t know whether to cover his own eyes or Luna’s face. "Luna! What are you doing?!"
The two people in the car were also dumbfounded. Miles stood up abruptly, his head hitting the roof with a loud THUMP. He cradled his head in pain and let out a miserable shriek, "Ouch! That hurts!"
While the crowd was still exclaiming in shock, they saw that Luna had only taken off her outer jacket and pants. She pulled out a set of military stab-resistant clothing from her spatial storage and put it on.
The moment she finished dressing, she pried open the giant snake’s mangled mouth and shouted to Evan, "Brother Evan, hurry! Help me hold its mouth open. Don’t let it snap shut!"
Evan instinctively held it open. Before he could fully process what was happening, Luna dove straight into the giant snake’s mouth!
Evan was completely stunned. He wanted to stop her but didn’t dare let go, terrified that if he did, Luna would be torn to shreds by the fangs inside the snake’s mouth.
The surrounding onlookers erupted into absolute chaos.
"Holy shit! This girl is insane!"
"Badass! That move left me speechless!"
"Is she crazy? Diving into a snake’s mouth, isn’t she afraid of getting bitten?"
Miles clung to the car window, his eyes wide as saucers. "I know my sister is brave, but I didn’t know she was this fearless!"
The next second—SQUELCH!
A Triangular Bayonet pierced straight out from inside the giant snake’s head. Immediately after, Luna exerted her strength from within, forcefully splitting the snake’s head in two!
Evan hastily let go, and the snake’s head fell to both sides with a wet SPLAT.
A few bold soldiers and Superpower Users couldn’t help but inch closer. Inside the split snake head, they saw the masked head of Luna.
The crowd’s expressions changed instantly, and sounds of disgust echoed one after another.
"Ew... that’s so gross!" a young girl’s voice called out from the back of the crowd.
"BLEGH! I’m going to throw up!"
Someone else started dry-heaving on the spot, their face turning pale.
Evan quickly reached out and pulled Luna free from the snake’s head.
Luna was entirely coated in dark red snake blood. Chunks of snake flesh hung from her mask, and a foul, rancid stench drilled straight into people’s noses. Being the closest, Evan was so overwhelmed by the smell that he couldn’t keep his eyes open, blinking incessantly.
The crowd that had just gathered backed away with a WHOOSH, wishing they could retreat ten miles away. Looking at the blood-drenched Luna, their eyes were filled with a mix of awe and disgust.
Everyone present knew she had definitely gone in to retrieve the Crystal Core, but doing it this way was simply too disgusting and reckless!
Watching this scene from the car, Kevin asked in a sarcastic tone, "Has your sister always been this crazy?"
Miles still hadn’t recovered from the shock. He scratched his head. "I really didn’t know she could be this unhinged..."
Kevin cast a resentful glance at Miles before fixing his gaze back on Luna, letting out a deep sigh.
Feeling the resentful glare from the person beside him, Miles looked at Kevin. To his astonishment, he found Kevin full of Spirit, not looking at all like the exhausted dead dog he was when his superpower was depleted just moments ago.
He was so shocked he nearly screamed on the spot. "Ah! Brother Finn! How did you recover so quickly? It’s only been a few minutes!"
Startled, Kevin quickly covered his mouth and lowered his voice. "Shut up! It’s a secret! Don’t yell!"
Miles nodded frantically with wide eyes. Only then did Kevin let go, shooting him a warning look. "We’ll talk about it when we get home." With that, he turned his head to vigilantly observe the outside again.
Meanwhile, Luna opened her hand. A pale blue Crystal Core the size of a quail egg rested in her palm. Smiling so broadly her eyes curved into crescents, she casually stored it into her spatial storage.
Evan finally adapted to the rank stench and hurriedly looked her up and down. "Luna, are you alright? Are you hurt?"
Luna shook her body, smiling smugly. "I’m fine, I’m fine! I’m tougher than a cockroach! Crystal Core secured. Perfect!"
Evan breathed a sigh of relief, his tone carrying a hint of complaint. "You scared me to death! Next time you do something this life-threatening, you have to discuss it with us first. Do you hear me?"
It was the first time in his life he had spoken to Luna with such a tone. They had come out together, and if anything happened to her, he wouldn’t be able to face Mrs. Dawson when they returned. For those few minutes, his heart had nearly leaped out of his chest.
Knowing she had been far too impulsive today, Luna quickly put on a sincere, apologetic expression. "I know I was wrong, Brother Evan! I won’t ever dare do it again! You absolutely can’t tell my mom, otherwise she’ll scold me to death. Pretty please!"
Seeing her pitiful look, Evan’s expression softened. He was just about to speak when he saw the thousands of snakes gathered at the entrance of the distant water plant suddenly scatter as if they had lost their leader. Quite a few were slithering straight toward them!
"Oh no! The snake swarm is coming!" Evan’s face drastically changed. He grabbed Luna and pulled her along. "Quick, get in the car!"
The people at the edge of the giant snake’s battlefield also saw the snake swarm that previously covered the water plant now surging madly toward them. Terrified, even those nursing injuries scrambled to their feet.
"Ah!"
"Snakes!"
"The snakes are coming!"
Some people even abandoned their injured companions and fled on their own!
