Chapter 4: Auntie Is Waiting for You at Home
Lin Ruoxi was very satisfied with Cheng Yuan serving as her decoy, and she certainly wasn’t about to explain things.
"You’re my savior. I couldn’t let you lose face in front of your friend! How did I do?"
Cheng Yuan gave a wry smile. "You were flawless. It’s just that... I can probably forget about finding a girlfriend at Luo University from now on."
Logically, since Lin Ruoxi was just using Cheng Yuan as a decoy, whether or not he could find a girlfriend should have been no concern of hers.
And yet, for some reason, her mood suddenly lifted. ’It would be great if Cheng Yuan couldn’t find a girlfriend!’
But her good mood lasted less than two seconds before she suddenly remembered something unpleasant.
"Cheng Yuan... what you said earlier, was it all true?"
"What?"
"You know... the part about how many weeks are in a year..."
Lin Ruoxi feigned a casual tone, but in reality, she minded a great deal. She was a bit of a purist, and if Cheng Yuan had really... with that ugly woman...
’In that case, she’d rather not have this decoy at all.’
At that moment, Lin Ruoxi didn’t notice her own contradictory feelings. If she truly saw Cheng Yuan as just a decoy, did she really need to be this bothered?
Cheng Yuan gave a self-deprecating laugh. "Honestly, I was just trying to gross out Jin Pengfei. The most Wang Shanshan and I ever did was hold hands."
Lin Ruoxi’s spirits were instantly restored. "It’s only normal you wouldn’t be interested in an ugly woman like that."
Cheng Yuan: "..."
"Let’s go. What time is your flight? Where are you planning to go?"
Lin Ruoxi’s mood instantly plummeted. "I haven’t bought a ticket yet. I don’t know where I’m going. I’ll just decide when I get to the airport."
Cheng Yuan couldn’t help but frown. Something was definitely wrong with Lin Ruoxi, but they had only just met. Their connection was too new for him to ask too many questions.
"Alright, let’s head over and see."
"Let’s eat first. My treat."
Lin Ruoxi pulled Cheng Yuan to a small dining table. While he had been confronting Wang Shanshan, she had borrowed a meal card and gotten them both food.
Lin Ruoxi’s table manners were incredibly elegant, her every move filled with grace. Cheng Yuan found the sight of her completely captivating and finally understood the saying "a feast for the eyes."
"What are you staring at? You should eat, too."
Lin Ruoxi rolled her eyes at him.
Slightly embarrassed, Cheng Yuan lowered his head and started shoveling food into his mouth. It wasn’t that he was being a pervert; Lin Ruoxi was just that beautiful.
By the time they finished their meal, the two had grown a bit more familiar with each other. Their conversation was no longer so formal, becoming slightly more casual.
BEEP... BEEP...
Cheng Yuan’s phone rang. He pulled it out and saw it was his mom.
"Mom, what’s up? Didn’t we just talk about this? I’m coming home for dinner tonight."
His mom, Wu Xiuli’s, voice came through the phone. "Xiaoyuan, why don’t you bring your girlfriend over for dinner tonight! We still haven’t met her!"
Cheng Yuan was at a loss for words.
’He and Wang Shanshan had just had a massive falling out. How was he supposed to explain this?’
Cheng Yuan’s silence made Wu Xiuli frantic. "Xiaoyuan, why aren’t you saying anything? When you took three hundred thousand from the family, you said you were sure about this girlfriend, that she was your future wife. What’s wrong? Is she not willing to come to our home?"
The volume on Cheng Yuan’s phone was turned up high, and Lin Ruoxi heard Wu Xiuli’s questions. She leaned in close to the phone and said, "Auntie, my name is Lin Ruoxi. I’m Cheng Yuan’s girlfriend, and I’d love to come to your home!"
Wu Xiuli was overjoyed. "Oh, so your name is Ruoxi? What a lovely name! I can tell you’re pretty just by the sound of your voice. Auntie will be waiting for you at home!"
BEEP...
Wu Xiuli hung up, completely satisfied. Cheng Yuan, on the other hand, was starting to lose his mind.
"Ruoxi, what did you just do..."
Lin Ruoxi smiled. "Cheng Yuan, don’t feel burdened by this. It just so happens I have nowhere to go. You saved me, so it’s only right that I help you save face by pretending to be your girlfriend for a little while."
