Chapter 396: Two Useless Teammates
「One minute earlier.」
The atmosphere in the cabin was quite pleasant. Cheng Yuan had borrowed a power bank and was chatting with the three women while his phone charged.
When the black bear roared, the three women jumped in fright, instinctively huddling close to Cheng Yuan.
"Mr. Cheng, what’s going on outside? Is there a black bear?"
"Aren’t black bears usually afraid to enter human campsites? We even have a bonfire! Why is this one so bold?"
Cheng Yuan said in a soothing voice, "Everyone, don’t panic. Hasn’t Young Master Wan hunted several black bears before? I’m sure he can protect us."
The women’s anxiety eased slightly, but soon, they were on edge again!
This was because Xiang Fei and Luo Hou had burst into the cabin in a blind panic. They were even more terrified than the women—their arms and legs trembled uncontrollably, their faces were pale as sheets, and tears and snot streamed down their faces from sheer terror!
Cheng Yuan snapped irritably, "You two have weapons. Why aren’t you out there hunting the bear? What kind of heroes hide in a cabin with women? Aren’t you afraid of getting them hurt?"
When facing the black bear, Xiang Fei and Luo Hou had been scared stiff, but now, facing Cheng Yuan, they puffed up their chests.
"You make it sound so easy, Cheng! That’s a black bear over two meters tall! If you saw it, you’d be scared out of your mind!"
"The cabins in this camp are extremely sturdy. They can withstand a magnitude-eight earthquake. The black bear can’t possibly break in, so what’s this talk about endangering the women?"
The words had barely left his mouth when the black bear swiped a paw against the wooden door!
The wooden door was smashed to splinters!
The women shrieked in terror and instinctively threw their arms around Cheng Yuan!
To the women’s surprise, Xiang Fei and Luo Hou shrieked even louder than they did, scrambling to the very back of the cabin to hide behind them...
Seeing its ’prey’ in such a state of terror, the black bear grew bolder and tried to squeeze its massive body into the cabin.
Fortunately, the doorframe was simply too small for the black bear’s massive frame.
The black bear used all its strength but couldn’t manage to get inside!
Enraged, the black bear swung its massive paw and slammed it against the doorframe!
CRACK!
The incredibly sturdy doorframe might as well have been made of cardboard; it shattered in an instant, sending splinters flying everywhere!
The opening in the doorframe gradually widened!
The women’s faces paled with fright, and they could only cling tightly to Cheng Yuan. Xiang Fei and Luo Hou were so scared that tears and snot ran freely down their faces as they screamed, "Help!! Young Master Wan, help us!!!"
Cheng Yuan was speechless. He yelled, "Are the crossbows and Hunting Blades in your hands just for show? Shoot it with Crossbow Arrows! If you run out of arrows, use your Hunting Blades to hack at it!"
As if waking from a dream, Xiang Fei and Luo Hou snatched up their crossbows and fumbled to load the Crossbow Arrows.
They were so nervous it took them a full ten seconds of fumbling just to load the Crossbow Arrows.
SWOOSH! SWOOSH!
Two Crossbow Arrows shot out!
They were so tense they had no aim at all. At such a close distance, they somehow missed the black bear and nearly hit Wang Yan instead!
Thanks to Cheng Yuan yanking her aside at the last second, Wang Yan was saved from the fate of being pierced by a Crossbow Arrow!
THUD! THUD!
Two dull thuds sounded as the two Crossbow Arrows embedded themselves heavily in the cabin’s doorframe!
Cheng Yuan was speechless again. He roared, "Don’t panic! Aim before you shoot!"
Xiang Fei retorted defiantly, "Why don’t you come over here if you’re so tough? You’re clearly shaking in your boots, so what right do you have to order me around?"
Though they talked back, Xiang Fei and Luo Hou didn’t stop, and began loading another round of Crossbow Arrows.
They had left in such a hurry that they had each only brought three Crossbow Arrows. Now, they were down to their last one.
This time, the two of them tried their best to steady their nerves.
SWOOSH! SWOOSH!
Two Crossbow Arrows shot out, successfully hitting the black bear!
However, their aim was terrible. One arrow hit its left leg, and the other hit its right arm. Neither was a fatal wound.
"ROOOAR!!"
The intense pain only further enraged the black bear!
The black bear let out an earth-shattering roar and attacked the doorframe with all its might, using both its paws and its mouth!
CRACK! CRACK!
The doorframe finally gave way under the bear’s onslaught and shattered completely!
Without the frame, the doorway was now just wide enough for the black bear to squeeze through!
A savage light gleamed in the black bear’s eyes. It drooled as it frantically twisted its bulky body, trying to force its way into the cabin!
Cheng Yuan turned his head and shouted, "Shoot it! What are you standing there for?"
Luo Hou snapped back, "You think we don’t know to shoot? We only brought three Crossbow Arrows each! They’re all gone!"
"Then grab your Hunting Blades and go cut it down! Kill it while it’s stuck in the doorway!"
Xiang Fei and Luo Hou’s eyes lit up, and they instinctively gripped their Hunting Blades. But when they looked at the frenzied black bear, their courage vanished in an instant.
"You make it sound so easy, Cheng! Why don’t you go?"
Not only did the two have no intention of fighting the black bear, but they were also scanning for an escape route.
Soon, their eyes lit up again. The cabin had windows! They could escape through the windows!
And so, both of them dashed for the window at the same time.
"Xiang Fei, I’m thinner and more agile, let me go first!"
"Why should I let you go first? I was the one who saw the window first!"
The two of them started grappling with each other, neither able to escape!
Cheng Yuan was utterly speechless. ’These two useless fools. How can they still be arguing about this at a time like this!’
Cheng Yuan could no longer stand by and do nothing. He wasn’t afraid of the black bear, but he was worried the women would get hurt!
With a sudden movement, Cheng Yuan stood up and shouted, "Lend me a Hunting Blade! I’ll go slaughter this black bear!!"

"Kid, if you want to die, don’t drag us down with you! If you provoke the black bear, we’re all going to die!"
Cheng Yuan’s gaze turned cold. Thanks to their delay, the black bear had already squeezed the front half of its body into the cabin!
