Chapter 404: Mr. Cheng, I Can Atone for My Crime with Meritorious Service
Pei Jian understood Cheng Yuan's meaning in an instant. Expressionless, he hauled Cha Meng up and strode toward the wolf pack.
The wolves could sense that Pei Jian was extremely dangerous, but the lure of so much flesh and blood was too great. They were unwilling to leave.
Led by the Wolf King, the pack let out low growls at Pei Jian, seemingly threatening him to stay back.
Pei Jian stopped five meters from the pack. With a flick of his hand, he tossed Cha Meng into their midst like a grenade.
Cha Meng pissed himself in terror and roared, "Fuck your mothers! You went back on your word! Even as a ghost, I won't let you go! Ahhh!!!"
Faced with an armless Cha Meng, the wolves naturally showed no mercy and swarmed him.
Cha Meng let out a bloodcurdling scream.
This time, Wan Liang and the others didn't find it cruel. Instead, they found it deeply satisfying.
Only Chen Ping lowered his head, his nerve failing him. The thought of being torn to shreds by the wolves sent a chill down his spine.
Of course, Cheng Yuan wasn't about to let Chen Ping off easily. He grabbed Chen Ping by the hair, forced him to watch the entire spectacle, and asked coldly, "Chen Ping, I'm very curious. Which is harder: your stubborn mouth, or the wolves' fangs?"
Seeing Cha Meng gnawed down to nearly a skeleton, Chen Ping's nerve finally broke. A blubbering mess of snot and tears, he pleaded,
"Mr. Cheng! I was wrong! I really was wrong! I beg you, give me a quick death! Don't let the wolves eat me!"
Cheng Yuan stared at Chen Ping coldly. "You wanted to squeeze every last bit of value from us, then sell our organs. Give me one reason to spare you."
Chen Ping's mind raced. In a low voice, he said, "Mr. Cheng, I can redeem myself! Cha Meng was here to pick up a shipment! I know where he hid them!"
A shipment?
An astonishing killing intent erupted from Cheng Yuan.
'How many more of our innocent countrymen have they tricked?'
"Where are the people?"
Seeing how much Cheng Yuan cared about the shipment, Chen Ping's spirits soared.
"Mr. Cheng, I have no problem telling you the location. But you have to promise to spare my life. Otherwise, they can die with me!"
Cheng Yuan scoffed. "You think you're in a position to bargain with me? You had a chance for a quick death, but you missed it!"
With that, Cheng Yuan grabbed Chen Ping by the collar and began dragging him toward the wolf pack.
Chen Ping pissed himself again, quickly shouting, "I'll talk! I'll talk! The shipment is at Outpost A5! Wan Liang knows the location!"
Wan Liang's expression changed drastically. "Wasn't Outpost A5 overrun by vipers? How could you hide people in an outpost crawling with poisonous snakes?"
Chen Ping explained, "Cha Meng released those snakes. His master is a Black Magic Master, and Cha Meng learned a bit of the Snake Control Technique."
A furious expression crossed Wan Liang's face. "Dammit! I spent over a million to build Outpost A5, only for a backstabbing little shit like you to steal it for himself!"
Chen Ping lowered his head.
Cheng Yuan turned to Wan Liang and the others. "The Hundred Thousand Mountains are extremely dangerous. Do you still want to continue your expedition?"
Wan Liang and the others all shook their heads. The world outside was too terrifying; they just wanted to run home to mommy.
Cheng Yuan ordered, "Pei Jian, arrange for Warriors to escort them out of the Hundred Thousand Mountains and to the airport immediately."
"Yes!"
"Wan Liang, you'll take us to Outpost A5. The Warriors will fly you home by helicopter afterward."
"Okay."
Not wanting to be separated from Cheng Yuan, He Jing volunteered, "I'll go with you. As a woman, it'll be easier for me to talk with the people who were tricked."
Cheng Yuan pondered for a moment before agreeing to He Jing's proposal.
ROAR! ROAR!
The attack helicopter lifted into the air and headed straight for Outpost A5.
Wan Liang asked cautiously, "Brother Yuan, I just heard them call you Young Marshal. What kind of rank is that?"
Cheng Yuan grinned. "Take a guess."
"A Captain?"
Cheng Yuan rolled his eyes, not even bothering to reply.
At his side, Pei Jian smiled and explained, "Mr. Wan, you guessed wrong. The Young Marshal is a Two Star General!"
A Two Star General??
Wan Liang sucked in a sharp breath.
'I thought I'd already overestimated Cheng Yuan by a wide margin, but it turns out I still underestimated him!'
'Does the Dragon Country even have such a young Two Star General?'
'That's high enough to command a major defense sector, isn't it?'
Wan Liang was absolutely certain that Cheng Yuan's future was boundless. He might even have the chance to become the supreme Commander of all the Dragon Country's Warriors!
'I'm so lucky that black bear showed up when it did,' Wan Liang thought with secret relief. 'Otherwise, I would have offended this future titan!'
He Jing subconsciously clenched her fists. 'I had originally thought that with my father's status, I would be marrying down by choosing Cheng Yuan.'
'But to my surprise, he's a Two Star General with a boundless future!'
'In the near future, his achievements might even surpass those of my grandfather, Elder He!'
'By then, the entire He Family will have to look up to him!'
This put immense pressure on He Jing.
However, He Jing wasn't discouraged.
'The harder the mountain is to climb, the more satisfying it is to conquer!'
'I am determined to have this man, Cheng Yuan!'
He Jing took out her phone and sent a text to Elder He: "Grandpa, I've decided. I agree to go to the Celestial Master Dao! I'll become a disciple of the Tiangang True Master!"
Elder He was ecstatic when he received the text.
He Jing had possessed a powerful talent for Spiritual Power since she was a child.
When He Jing was sixteen, the Tiangang True Master of the Celestial Master Dao had personally visited the He Family, wanting to take He Jing as his disciple.
But He Jing hadn't wanted to be separated from her parents, and she had no interest in any Techniques, so she had unhesitatingly refused the Tiangang True Master's kind offer.
"Jingjing, why did you change your mind?"
"Because as I am now, I'm not worthy of Cheng Yuan. I must earn the right to stand by his side as an equal."
On the other end of the line, Elder He's face twisted in anguish.
'Fucking hell!'
'Everyone in the He Family argued themselves hoarse, but none of us could change her mind.'
'Yet Cheng Yuan, an outsider, changed it so easily.'
'A grown daughter truly can't be kept at home!'
...
Soon, the attack helicopter arrived at Outpost A5.
The helicopter slowly landed about twenty meters outside the outpost.
Just as Wan Liang had said, Outpost A5 was overrun with vipers.
The snakes were numerous and densely packed. Many were even devouring each other. The sight would make anyone with trypophobia's skin crawl and break out in goosebumps.
Strangely, however, the area around a small wooden cabin in the center of the camp was completely clean, without a single snake.
It was as if the cabin was the last remaining safe zone.
A dozen or so young people were inside the cabin, staring numbly at the teeming mass of snakes outside.
They already knew they'd been tricked, but they were helpless. They didn't dare runβto run meant death.
He Jing frowned. "Cheng Yuan, with so many snakes, how are we supposed to rescue them? We should have kept Cha Meng alive to drive them away."
Cheng Yuan said gently, "Don't worry. My little treasure can handle these snakes."
"What little treasure?"
Cheng Yuan grinned and took out Little Silkworm.
