Chapter 32 Do you know who I am?
Is Lucas obsessed with blondes? No, he just purely appreciates good looks.
He likes every beautiful girl equally.
However, he still explained the origins of Cate and Jordan to Starlight.
Only then did Starlight become happy again.
Afterward, Lucas received a phone call.
The call was from a Vought International executive. Edgar himself called to invite him to the top-floor office at 3:00 PM for a cup of coffee.
"Not going. I’m busy."
Lucas hung up the phone decisively.
He had plans to be happy at home with Starlight this afternoon, watching movies, eating snacks, and getting to know each other inside and out.
"Mr. Guardian, this is an order from Edgar!"
"Do you know who he is?"
"No Supe at Vought International dares to disobey..."
Edgar’s secretary said with a stern tone, but before she could finish...
"Then do you know who I am? Tomorrow I’m going to blow your head off!"
After Lucas said that, the secretary didn’t take it seriously.
"Mr. Edgar will be waiting for you at 3:00 PM. If you don’t come, you’ll bear the consequences."
Starlight listened from the side, worried.
Edgar is the person in power at Vought International; no one dares to provoke him, yet Lucas actually turned a blind eye to Edgar’s invitation.
It’s hard to believe, no matter who you ask.
"This... this isn’t good, right? We are both contracted Supes for Vought International."
Lucas didn’t care at all. He picked up Annie and walked into the bathroom.
Ten minutes later, the lights in the room began to flicker.
Three hours.
The entire building lost power again.
At 3:00 PM, Edgar took the coffee brewed by his secretary and waited for his guest to arrive with immense elegance.
3:10 PM. 3:20 PM. 3:30 PM...
"Sir, I... I clearly notified Guardian. He should have been here at 3:00 PM..." the secretary said with a panicked expression.
She hadn’t expected that Guardian would actually dare not to show up.
"I will call him myself."
Edgar dialed the number. Beep... Beep-beep... The phone started ringing.
Lucas rolled over, reached out to grab the phone, and signaled for Starlight to continue.
"Guardian, this is Edgar."
Ooh, ooh, ooh... The sounds from the other end of the line made the big boss who had been in charge of Vought International for decades feel a vein throb on his forehead.
"Guardian, we have an agreement. When I need you, I expect you to come over immediately." Edgar loosened his tie, quickly growing accustomed to the situation.
Guardian was indeed cut from the same cloth as those trashy Supes.
As long as there is money, they are easily corrupted.
Lucas threw the phone behind Starlight and then took the initiative.
The lights in the nearby buildings also began to flicker. Click. The call disconnected.
Lucas frowned and opened his panel.
Edgar’s personality was too stable; even something like this couldn’t cause a strong fluctuation in his emotions.
Forget it, no point thinking about it. Let’s get to business first.
On the third day, Lucas finally arrived late. As soon as he entered, Ashley was already waiting in the lobby.
"The boss is waiting for you. Oh my ancestor, how could you dare to leave the big boss hanging like that!" the corporate worker revealed a bitter smile.
Edgar carries much more weight than Madelyn. Even though she replaced Madelyn as a corporate worker, she still didn’t dare to offend the true big boss.
But she also didn’t dare to provoke Lucas; Lucas was the major backer she relied on to stand her ground in the company.
Honest Ashley continued to maintain her state of being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
"What are you afraid of? He won’t use his laser eyes to force you or blow your head off like Homelander would." Lucas looked indifferent.
Ashley didn’t dare to express any opinion, because Homelander was also waiting in the lobby.
Seeing Lucas enter, Homelander immediately smiled to greet him.
He originally thought Lucas was just purely unafraid of him, but he didn’t expect him to dare to mess with Edgar too! This is just too... awesome!
Can a Supe really be this brave?
"Oh, it’s Homelander!" Lucas greeted him simply.
Seeing Lucas’s casual demeanor, Homelander was not angry but happy instead. Only friends could be this casual with him, right!
"Brother, Edgar is waiting. Although I don’t like him very much either, you still need to consider The Seven!" Homelander was still speaking up for Edgar.
Lucas looked somewhat frustrated, as if Homelander was failing to meet expectations. "I’m not saying this to put you down, Homelander, but why don’t you dare to just go at it with Edgar?"
Homelander didn’t dare to speak. He walked side-by-side with Ashley, his heartbeat accelerating involuntarily.
Whenever he thought of Edgar, he felt a sense of cowardice that he couldn’t resist; it seemed his nature was just like that. No matter how awesome a son is, he is born to fear his father.
Top floor. Edgar’s office. Ashley opened the door, and Lucas flew in with his legs crossed.
Edgar didn’t even look up; he was browsing a document, with his female secretary beside him.
Lucas didn’t look at Edgar either, but stared at the female secretary. "Was it you who called me yesterday?"
The female secretary’s expression stiffened. A Supe who dared to leave the big boss hanging—she didn’t dare to be presumptuous now.
Because the other party really might blow her head off.
"It... it was me!"
"You’re quite bold! Daring to order me around?"
"That was my order," Edgar said without looking up.
Lucas didn’t respond, but floated in front of the female secretary.
"Do you know who I am?"
"You... you are Guardian," the female secretary said with a trembling voice.
"Then you should know that I am one of the strongest Supes on Earth. Who gave you the courage to speak to me like that?"
The red light in Lucas’s eyes flickered. At such a close distance, the female secretary could feel the terrifying high temperature scorching her face.
Sweat began to seep from her face, and her makeup started to run.
"I... I... I didn’t mean to..."
Relying on Edgar’s authority, the female secretary had grown accustomed to being overbearing within Vought International. She didn’t dare to order Homelander around, but she would boss other Supes around.
Who in all of Vought International doesn’t know that she is Edgar’s lackey?
"If you kill her, you will be violating the justice you uphold." Edgar finally put down the document and looked straight at Lucas.
His heartbeat fluctuated slightly, but not by much.
"Every inch of capital’s flesh is filled with sin, and capital’s dogs are not innocent either."
Light burst from Lucas’s eyes. The female secretary let out a cry and collapsed to the ground in terror on the spot. The smell of urine wafted from beneath her.
Lucas, of course, had no interest in killing an innocent person. After all, he wasn’t some devil. As a young man with grand ideals who let his dreams soar on New Year’s Eve, he still had basic bottom lines for how to behave.
"Alright, now you can tell me the purpose of you looking for me."
Edgar stared at Lucas for a minute, then pointed to the chair opposite him. "Guardian, please sit."
A cup of coffee had already been placed on the table. Lucas walked to Edgar’s refrigerator, took out a bottle of Coke from inside, and said, "I’ll just drink this."
Edgar didn’t care about those details, instead, he pushed a document in front of Lucas. "Do you know about the Vought International Department?"
"Not much. It seems to be the Supe department responsible for overseas markets."
Edgar leaned back into his chair, crossed his hands, and turned a blind eye to the terrified, limp secretary beside him.
"To be precise, our diplomatic business is responsible for promoting Supe militarization plans to various national governments."
"But the situation in some regions is quite complex and cannot be solved just by throwing money at it."
Lucas opened the folder. The first page was a satellite photo. The Middle East, the desert region at the border of Syria and Iraq.
The photo was marked with a red circle. Inside the circle was a seemingly ordinary desert, but thermal imaging showed large-scale architectural structures underground.
The second page was a file. Codename: Sandstorm. Real name: Farid Al-Rashid. Age: 41. Nationality: Iraq.
Ability: Geological Manipulation. He can manipulate all soil, rocks, and gravel within a radius of 500 meters, turning them into weapons or defensive barriers. Additional abilities include earthquake creation, Sandstorm generation, and underground space shaping.
Threat Level: S.
Judging solely from the ability description, this is a quite powerful Supe.
Lucas continued to read down. The background information in the file was very interesting.
Farid was born in Baghdad in 1983. In 2003, America invaded Iraq. In the same year, the Vought International Department launched a secret project in the Middle East, which they called "Desert Shield."
