Chapter 31 Are you a blonde fetishist?
Next was Cate.
The school’s interview room.
Cate sat in the chair, her back straight, hands placed neatly on her knees, as if she were interviewing for a Fortune 500 company.
Jordan was much the same.
"Alright Cate, I won’t waste time with small talk, since we’ve already met."
Lucas set Cate’s file aside.
Jordan and Cate were both students with decent personal morals; at least, they didn’t have any issues of principle so far.
Even if they did, for the sake of Evolution Points, the principles were whatever he, Guardian, said they were.
After all, the right to interpret such matters was entirely up to him, wasn’t it?
"Can I join The Seven now?" Cate reached out to touch Lucas’s hand on purpose.
A mental wave was released.
"Child, you don’t really think your little ability is enough to show off in front of me, do you?"
Lucas grabbed Cate’s hand in return and pulled her over.
Cate let out a cry of surprise and fell into Lucas’s arms.
To her amazement, she discovered that she couldn’t read Guardian’s mind at all.
It was completely different from last time.
This time, Guardian had blocked her superpower.
"How is that possible? Even with special training, no one should be able to completely block my telepathy."
"Nothing is impossible. Last time was just to test your behavior and the strength of your superpower."
Lucas let go of Cate, only to see her looking pleasantly surprised.
As if she had discovered some kind of treasure.
A Supe who couldn’t be affected by her telepathy or Mind Control was simply the chosen one!
Even her childhood sweetheart, Golden Boy, didn’t possess such an ability.
"So... what job have you arranged for me?" Cate suppressed the excitement in her heart.
"A Vought International internship. Your ability can be used to interrogate criminals, but..."
"I accept."
"You might want to think about it carefully. A criminal’s inner world is generally more traumatic than a normal person’s... it might..."
"No need to say anything more, I accept working by your side."
Cate looked as if she had discovered a new continent; her excitement was written all over her face.
Lucas’s Super Hearing told him that the woman’s reaction was genuine.
She was indeed excited, but not because of the job.

Monday.
Jordan and Cate arrived at Vought International together to report for duty.
Ashley arranged their positions: members of Guardian’s oversight team, with an internship monthly salary of $8,000, which would double upon becoming full-time staff.
The specific work content would be determined by Lucas.
"Guardian, what is our job?"
When the two entered excitedly, they found Lucas with his legs propped up on his desk, a box of pizza and a large bucket of Pepsi beside him.
On the wall opposite, the television was playing SpongeBob SquarePants.
SpongeBob SquarePants!
...
The two were dumbfounded.
What about the heroic demeanor? What about fighting crime? What about the ambassador of justice?
They only saw a shut-in stuffing high-calorie food into his mouth.
Occasionally letting out a burp.
Seeing them enter, Lucas gave instructions on the spot.
"Jordan, go pour a glass of water, then sit there."
"Cate, you sit too. Don’t be polite, just treat this like your own home."
Lucas didn’t take his eyes off the screen as he clicked to the next episode.
He had loved watching this cartoon back in the day, but unfortunately, he never had the chance to finish it.
Now, he was going to watch it from beginning to end.
"Um, sir?"
Cate asked cautiously, "What is our job?"
"Job?"
Lucas chewed on his pizza without looking back.
"Your job is to be on standby. When there are no missions, do whatever you want."
"When there is a mission, I will notify you."
"Just... just like that?"
Jordan, currently in their female form, folded their arms with an expression of disbelief.
"Just like that."
"Then what should we do now..."
Lucas pointed to the sofa, "Sit down and watch SpongeBob SquarePants. Squidward Moves Out—a classic among classics."
Jordan and Cate exchanged a glance.
An $8,000 monthly salary, working for Guardian’s direct team at Vought International, and the main job content is watching cartoons?
Is there any shame left?
Is there any law left?
Is there any pizza left?
Three minutes later.
The two had their feet up on the coffee table, a bite of pizza and a sip of cola.
"Let me ask you a question."
Lucas, while watching the cartoon, suddenly blurted out.
Here it comes!
This is the real test!
Everything before was just a facade Guardian used to confuse them!
The two pricked up their ears to listen; perhaps he was testing their professional knowledge regarding superpowers.
"So, do you guys prefer Coca-Cola or Pepsi?"
Cate: "???"
Jordan: "???"
"For me, Pepsi, I guess," Cate said.
She opened a bottle of Coca-Cola.
"I can’t tell the difference."
Jordan admitted honestly.
In the end, the three sat side by side on the sofa, watching SpongeBob SquarePants.
The scene was quite harmonious for a while.
A classic is a classic.
Until the office door was pushed open.
Starlight walked in.
"Lucas, do you want to... tonight..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Annie saw the scene on the sofa.
For a woman who was new to relationships, all she saw was Guardian with his arms around two women.
One woman on each side, one of whom even had the exact same blonde hair as her.
Starlight’s smile froze on her face.
"Annie! You’re just in time, come watch SpongeBob SquarePants with us." Lucas, acting as if he hadn’t noticed, patted the spot beside him.
Starlight stood motionless.
Her gaze swept over Cate and then landed on Lucas.
So, is Lucas into blondes?
The pizza in Cate’s hand almost fell to the floor.
She recognized Starlight instantly, but as a woman, her intuition allowed her to sense the murderous intent.
"St-Starlight!" Cate stood up with a start.
"I’m your fan!"
Starlight’s expression softened slightly.
"Thank you."
Then she walked over, sat down next to Lucas, and naturally placed her hand on his arm.
Lucas felt his arm being pinched lightly.
"Stop it, Annie, we’re having fun."
Cate had already shifted her position to the edge of the sofa.
She was afraid of getting blood on her face.
Jordan was on pins and needles.
Should they switch to their male form? Waiting online, it’s quite urgent...
"Ahem, um, we’re going to buy pizza."
"Yes, Orleans chicken leg pizza."
The two found an excuse and ran away as if fleeing.
"Annie, look, you scared the kids." Lucas took a sip of cola.
He could hear Starlight’s heartbeat racing.
"Are you into blondes?"
