Chapter 146 All mortals must die, and all mortals must be offered sacrifices.
Amidst this chaos, Prince Joffrey Baratheon happened to return.
Although the eternal emperor Prince Joffrey Baratheon had not yet ascended the throne, he already displayed his cruel and cowardly nature.
Clutching his bitten hand, he rushed over aggressively, demanding that King Robert Baratheon seek justice for him.
"Father! A lowly commoner dared to bite me! I want him to suffer a fate worse than death!"
King Robert Baratheon was already fuming.
Upon seeing Prince Joffrey Baratheon’s face, which resembled Cersei Lannister so much, that nameless rage in his heart flared up instantly.
"A fate worse than death?"
"Good! Very good indeed!"
"You are exactly like your bitch of a mother—just as vicious, just as stupid!"
King Robert Baratheon roared, "Guards! Tie this little bastard up for me!"
The guards looked at each other, but intimidated by King Robert Baratheon’s towering rage, they swarmed forward and bound the stunned Prince Joffrey Baratheon tightly, rendering him unable to break free despite his struggles.
King Robert Baratheon ordered someone to bring a riding crop and lashed out at Prince Joffrey Baratheon fiercely.
"Father! Have you gone mad? I am your son! What have I done wrong?" Prince Joffrey Baratheon screamed shrilly.
Yet, no one dared to step forward to intervene.
It was as if King Robert Baratheon’s decades of pent-up resentment were being vented in this moment, beating Prince Joffrey Baratheon until his skin was torn and he was howling in agony.
"Damn blonde bitch! You still dare to pretend to be my son? Are you even of the House Baratheon bloodline? Can you even comprehend how to sit in the seat of the heir?"
After dozens of lashes, King Robert Baratheon was breathless from the exertion.
"Damn little bastard!"
King Robert Baratheon threw down the riding crop and kicked Prince Joffrey Baratheon over.
"From this day forward, you are no longer the Crown Prince!" King Robert Baratheon declared coldly. "I hereby announce that Joffrey is stripped of his status and reduced to a commoner. Now get to the stables and tend to the horses for the rest of your life!"
Prince Joffrey Baratheon collapsed completely onto the ground.
He didn’t even know why King Robert Baratheon had beaten him.
King Robert Baratheon did not treat all his children the same; for instance, he showed exceptional leniency toward his young daughter Myrcella, who was naturally well-behaved and gentle.
Because Myrcella was not as vicious as Cersei Lannister, but rather very gentle and considerate, and after so many years of companionship, King Robert Baratheon could not bear to demote his daughter to a commoner, so he ordered Myrcella to be kept within the royal household for the time being.
In the future, she could also be used to secure benefits for the royal family.
A king’s foster daughter could still be used for marriage alliances, perhaps even more effectively than a biological daughter.
His youngest son, Tommen, stood in stark contrast to Prince Joffrey Baratheon; he was timid and cowardly, not a contender for the throne. He would let him grow up under the careful guidance of a maester to one day rule the Westerlands for him.
War would inevitably break out!
Yet, regarding the various arrangements following this war, King Robert Baratheon had already reserved a place for everyone’s future in the blink of an eye.
...
"Whoa!"
Lucas hovered high above, taking everything in.
King Robert Baratheon really had something to him.
However, no one could say for sure who would win on the chessboard of power. Someone who looked like a protagonist today might end up like a stray dog kicked to death on the roadside tomorrow; that was the true nature of the Game of Thrones.
...
Winterfell.
It didn’t take long for Lucas to find Catelyn Stark.
Catelyn Stark was the wife of the Warden of the North, Stark. She was also a highly controversial figure in the Game of Thrones, interpreting the game of power through motherly love, only to end up destroying the entire North.
There was nothing wrong with a teenage girl living like a princess.
But for a woman who had married and attained the status of a Lady, to still live like a princess, one could not blame others.
At this moment, Catelyn Stark was keeping watch by the bedside of her son, Bran Stark, washing her face with tears.
Her youngest son had mysteriously fallen from a high tower some days ago and was then nearly assassinated in the dead of night, narrowly escaping death.
Lucas’s appearance caused Catelyn Stark to show a look of terror.
"Assassin!" She lunged toward the bedside, spreading her arms wide, shielding the unconscious Bran Stark like a large bird.
"I will not let you harm my son!"
She assumed Lucas was another assassin sent by the culprit.
Lucas, however, ignored her.
He flashed to the bedside, bypassed Catelyn Stark directly, and reached out to touch Bran Stark’s forehead.
It was indeed the will of the Three-Eyed Raven hindering the child from waking up.
Bran Stark had a naturally strong will and powerful mental strength. If not for his physical impairment, the Three-Eyed Raven would never have had the chance to possess his body. As long as Bran Stark could recover, it could delay the Three-Eyed Raven’s plan to some extent.
Once he unified the continent of Westeros and conquered this world, all the local gods would be expelled or even strangled!
"I beg you!"
Catelyn Stark knelt down, tears streaming down her face, pleading bitterly.
"Please, do not kill my son! If you must kill someone, kill me! Take my life in exchange for his!"
Lucas was somewhat speechless.
"People shouldn’t be this stupid!" He sighed. "If I really wanted to kill your son, do you think you would still have the chance to stand here and talk to me?"
"Even if I were really an assassin, would begging me be of any use?"
"Perhaps I might even have you lie by the bedside for some exciting drama!" Lucas sneered.
Catelyn Stark was stunned.
What did that mean?
He hadn’t come to kill Bran Stark; was he here to mess with her?
Catelyn Stark’s expression became even more terrified!
No! Don’t!
"Who... who exactly are you?" Catelyn Stark asked, trembling, her eyes filled with fear.
"Who I am is not something you need to ask now; you will know in time!" Lucas said.
"You only need to understand one thing: I can replace the old gods you worship. I can make Bran Stark recover, so he won’t have to be bedridden for the rest of his life!"
Catelyn Stark’s eyes showed suspicion and wonder.
This person had mysteriously appeared in Bran Stark’s room, yet he wasn’t an assassin, but a maester?
What maester had such skills?
Catelyn Stark’s first reaction should have been to question it, but motherly love overrode her brain, causing her to ask instinctively.
"Re... really?"
"Yes, but everything has a price! All men must die, all men must serve!"
Lucas said.
He slowly raised his hand and waved it gently toward Bran Stark on the bed.
The next moment.
The unconscious child actually opened his eyes.
"Mother..." Bran Stark looked around in confusion.
"Mother, my legs... I think, I can feel my legs!"
As he spoke, he braced himself against the edge of the bed and actually stood up shakily!
The maester had diagnosed that it would be difficult for Bran Stark to wake up, and even if he were lucky enough to wake, he would never be able to pick up a weapon, become a knight, or be a capable assistant to his older brother for the rest of his life.
He would be bedridden for the rest of his life.
But now, Bran Stark had miraculously recovered!
"A miracle!" Catelyn Stark covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face. "This is a miracle!"
"All men must die, all men must serve! The old gods you worship may not be as effective as me, so what should you call me now?"
Lucas looked down from above and slowly floated up.
His cloak swayed without any wind.
This scene was deeply etched into Catelyn Stark’s mind.
The North worshiped the old gods and the First Men, which was different from the faiths of the South. They preferred to pray under the weirwood trees rather than to man-made stone statues to seek peace for their families.
But this did not prevent Catelyn Stark from changing her faith.
