With the enthusiastic help of Barry Allen, Lucas rented a high-end apartment with two bedrooms and a living room.
It was on the twenty-fourth floor.
The massive floor-to-ceiling windows offered an unobstructed view of the scenery in Central City, and occasionally, the headlights of cars below would light up the room.
Barry Allen readily lent him five thousand dollars and paid for half a year of rent.
As a crime scene investigator for the Central City Police Department, Barry Allen’s salary was actually quite generous; while this wasn’t a small sum for him, he could afford it.
That evening, just as Lucas had finished tidying up the place, the doorbell rang.
He opened the door to find Barry Allen, Caitlin Snow, and Cisco Ramon standing there, carrying bags full of items.
Lucas looked a bit puzzled. "You guys... aren’t you busy with the war against Zoom? How do you have the spare time to come over here and throw a party?"
Caitlin Snow smiled slightly and handed over a box of desserts. "This is a welcoming ceremony for our new friend. You don’t have any family or friends in Central City, but from today on, we can be your friends."
Cisco Ramon poked his head out from the side and added, "Provided you don’t blow our heads off."
Barry Allen and Caitlin Snow turned their heads simultaneously and gave Cisco Ramon a speechless glare.
"Why are you looking at me like that!" Cisco Ramon shrank his neck and threw up his hands. "You saw how terrifying his slap was earlier today; naturally, I’m a little scared!"
Lucas grinned. "Don’t worry, Cisco Ramon. I’m not some kind of demon, and I’m not that moody. As long as you don’t step on my landmines, I’m purely a nice guy—gentler than a capybara!"
"Really!"
Lucas smiled, revealing his gleaming white teeth.
Cisco Ramon felt that something was off, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
However, as soon as he entered the living room, Cisco Ramon noticed a 4K LCD TV and a brand-new PS5 sitting in the center of the room, with a stack of game discs piled on the floor.
The plastic wrap hadn’t even been removed; they were definitely brand new!
"Oh! Bro! You like playing video games too?!" Cisco Ramon’s eyes lit up, and he slid across the floor on his knees to dive toward the pile of discs.
"Each disc costs dozens of dollars. The ones here add up to at least two thousand dollars. This guy buys game discs like he’s buying groceries!"
Lucas shrugged. "What else would I do?"
Cisco Ramon excitedly flipped through the discs. "The new ’Dead Island 2’, plus ’GTA 5’, ’Dying Light’, ’The Last of Us Part 1 and 2’... Oh my god, Bro, you are definitely a good guy! How could a gamer be a bad person!"
Barry Allen’s expression became somewhat subtle. He hesitated for a moment. "Um... Lucas, these aren’t bought with the money I lent you, are they..."
"Yeah! When you have money, you have to buy games, and you have to eat more kidneys! Is there a problem with that?" Lucas stated as if it were only natural.
Barry Allen: "..."
He took a deep breath, his expression somewhat wooden. "So, you’re probably not going to pay me back, right?"
"I borrowed the money on my own merit, why should I pay it back?"
That makes so much sense that I actually can’t refute it.
Barry Allen was choked speechless on the spot and could only silently weep in his heart.
Forget it, forget it! I’ll just treat it as paying protection money!
In the end, Caitlin Snow interrupted the conversation. She glanced at the empty kitchen.
"Since our new friend’s place has nothing to eat, Barry Allen, why don’t you go buy some food? I believe he’s probably hungry by now."
Thinking about how Lucas had polished off five hamburgers and three large iced colas earlier that day, Caitlin Snow felt a little embarrassed.
Surely he couldn’t still be hungry, right!
Lucas, however, was not polite at all. "Hmm, I am actually hungry. Go buy something else—pizza, Thai food, street snacks... anything is fine. Barry Allen, just buy enough for your own appetite!"
Barry Allen shrugged. "You definitely don’t have any money left in your pockets to buy food, right?"
Lucas felt his pockets, finding a few coins and a crumpled bill. "I have thirty-two dollars and forty-six cents left, that’s all of it."
"Fine, every little bit counts. Hand it over." Barry Allen snatched the pathetic thirty-something dollars.
Of his five thousand dollars, this was all that was left.
That was money he had earned by working diligently!
Whoosh! A gust of wind swept by, and The Flash had already vanished from the room.
Caitlin Snow smoothed out her hair, which had been ruffled by the wind, and found a place to sit.
Lucas simply crossed his legs and floated in mid-air.
"Oh! That’s cool! Is that meditation for Meta-humans?!" Cisco Ramon was extremely envious.
Lucas looked at Cisco Ramon. "By the way, Cisco Ramon, you’re a Meta-human, right?"
Cisco Ramon was fiddling with the game discs and paused upon hearing this. "Yeah, I’m a Meta-human. Did Barry Allen tell you?"
"Not at all. I have biological perception. In my perception, the life energy and molecular vibrations of Meta-humans are much more vigorous than those of ordinary people."
"If an ordinary person is a dim little desk lamp, then you and Barry Allen in this room are like two shining suns; it’s hard not to recognize that."
As he spoke, Lucas turned his head again and cast his gaze toward Caitlin Snow, who was to the side. "You, on the other hand, caused a slight error in my perception. Are you a Meta-human?"
Caitlin Snow shook her head decisively. "No, I’m not! I’m definitely not Killer Frost!"
Oh! Barry Allen hasn’t triggered Flashpoint yet, so Caitlin Snow’s personality power is still dormant.
However, in Lucas’s perceptual vision, Caitlin Snow’s state was indeed very strange. The life energy within her was no different from a mortal’s, but in certain extremely fleeting moments, it would suddenly spike to another dimension.
And then it would drop back down like a roller coaster.
This kind of ability fluctuation was somewhat like the relationship between Dr. Banner and the Hulk.
"Hey, Bro, see if you can tell what kind of ultimate move I can unleash?" To change the subject, Cisco Ramon slapped Lucas on the shoulder in a carefree manner.
Hum!!! The moment he touched Lucas, multidimensional energy rippled out. Cisco Ramon could manipulate multidimensional energy to cross the barriers of time and space through touch, seeing fragments of the past, present, and future.
Because his ability did not involve mind intrusion, mental tampering, or telepathy, it did not trigger Lucas’s passive defense mechanism.
But it was precisely this moment that allowed Cisco Ramon to see the most terrifying scene of his life.
In Cisco Ramon’s vision, he arrived at Little St. James Island, where waves crashed against the reefs and the sky was so gloomy it felt as if it were about to collapse.
Three people were standing high in the air.
The moment Lucas landed, the resulting impact caused the entire island to tilt slightly... Then he saw a massive underground space filled with specially made steel cages.
And what made his blood run cold was that the cells were filled with kids who had been tortured beyond recognition!
There were both boys and girls!
Their eyes were filled with despair, numbness, and dead silence, and the scars on their bodies were shocking.
The scene shifted, and the castle ceiling exploded into pieces!
A blonde Superman used his laser eyes to instantly melt a mercenary, and a black-haired woman followed closely behind, heroic and spirited, slapping another mercenary to death.
As for Lucas, that was quite something else.
Moving at high speed, he used hand strikes to cut down several people in succession, and combined with his Omega Beams, no one could withstand him.
The expressions of the three were ferocious and violent.
It was nothing but pure, bloody slaughter; the politicians who were usually high and mighty were smeared all over the walls. Cisco Ramon could even smell the stench of blood permeating the air, and he was almost face-to-face with Homelander.
That face beneath the blonde hair seemed to carry a hint of distortion.
