Chapter 213: Not Easy
Ryan’s POV
In the movies, things were always insanely easy.
If somebody ran into their house and locked the door, the bad guy chasing them just gave one mighty kick, and the whole thing came off at the hinges. In reality, if someone did that, they were more likely to break something. In film, people made moving a dead body look so easy. Ryan got the feeling that reality would be very difficult. He had carried an unconscious person before, dead weight, was really heavy.
With such things, he had always known that reality would be way more difficult.
But there was one thing that he had never thought of. In the movies, when a guy wanted to propose to his lady, all that he had to do was walk into a jewelry store. Then he would walk out with a ring that would magically happen to be the correct size when he finally got down on one knee and popped the question. But reality was not like that at all, it should not have been surprising for Ryan. But given that he had not expected that, he was shocked. Never one to just give up at the slightest inconvenience though, Ryan had decided to keep moving forward.
In the past few days, he had been paying as much attention to Vivian’s fingers as possible. First he had tried to guess her ring size just by looking. When that had proved impossible, he had started trying to touch her fingers. Even going as far as sucking them into his mouth to see if he could capture the circumference that had not worked, and Ryan was getting more desperate by the day.
There was also the possibility of telling Amy and then having the other woman help him get her ring size.
Heck, he could even ask for help from Mark, but that felt like it would ruin the atmosphere somewhat. His grandfather might have guessed it, but Ryan wanted the first person that he actually told to be Vivian. Sure, holding on to that belief was making the whole thing ten times more difficult. But Ryan felt that in the end, it would be worth it. All that he had to do was keep trying, and eventually he knew he would get a measurement and would be able to instruct the jeweler to make a ring that was perfect for her.

Sitting in his study, Ryan should have been working.
But as had become the norm, he was online trying to get tips on how to learn somebody’s ring size without them being aware of it. Some people were suggesting using molds, others swore by strands of wool. Some recommended the old school one of tracing hand shapes on a piece of paper. There were so many tips and tricks that instead of helping, it all just made Ryan’s headache.
Why was this entire thing so difficult?!
He had been seeing Vivian Rose’s fingers from the very first moment they had met. That should count for something, he should be able to close his eyes, think of them, and have his mind immediately come up with her ring size. But that was not the case, and Ryan was hating it. Turning his attention back to the screen, he sighed as he realized that he would have to pick one of the suggestions given, and give it a try. It was either that or quit, and quitting was not something that he intended to ever do when it came to Vivian Rose.

From his online searches, Ryan had first tried the hand mold trick, and it had almost worked, he had gotten the mold of her hand, and had immediately rushed out. Telling Vivian that he was going to have a professional finish them off, so that they could decorate the penthouse with the rings. But he had not even walked out the door, when he had started noticing hives breaking out all over his skin. Vivian, upon seeing them had immediately pointed out the clay that they had been using for the molds as the culprit. She had grabbed them, and binned them without a second thought before rushing to the bathroom to get him some medicine.
Once he had gotten the reaction under control, Ryan had decided that that idea was a bust. Not trusting the accuracy of the finger tracing, he had not even attempted it.
Now he was in bed with Vivian, she was fast asleep. But instead of joining her, Ryan had a blue thread in his hands and was moving as slowly as possible, trying to tie it around her finger without waking her.
Almost...almost,... the thread was now beneath the correct finger. All that he had to do, was tie it in a loop, and slowly roll it off her finger, and his job would be done. Holding his breath, Ryan stopped every few seconds to wipe sweat off his brow. He felt like he now knew exactly how people who diffused bombs for a living felt on a regular basis.
Most likely if they were to hear him, they would disagree, but Ryan did not care. They were the ones who would not understand. The operation that he was currently carrying out was nerve-wrecking.
His heart was drumming in anticipation, Ryan knew that he was finally going to get her ring size.
This was it, this one was going to work. Just a little bit more, and he would have what he needed.
His job was almost--
"Ryan, what are you doing?" The sound of Vivian’s groggy voice nearly made him jump a foot in the air. But Ryan was able to hold himself back. Thinking fast, he grabbed her hand and began kissing her fingers, pulling off the thread in the same movement, and hiding it before she could notice that it had ever been there.
"Up for another round?" He asked. Lifting her head to look him in the eyes, Vivian’s eyes shifted from her fingers to his face. Then she shrugged and parted her legs.
"Let’s do this," She said easily. As great as the sex was, Ryan could not stop staring at her fingers the whole time.
