Chapter 612 - 350: Facing
A one-way trip!
This statement, brimming with immense confidence, stunned even Forbidden Calamity, who was controlling Liu Feifei.
Forbidden Calamity’s power was a shadow of its former self. Even it wouldn’t dare make such a claim while facing so many Demon Fiends, especially with a Great Demon of the Insect Dao leading them.
’Yang An’s Cultivation Level is merely that of a Peak Zombie God. Where does he get such confidence?’
But then again, Yang An wielded the forbidden Power of Light. And he had just obliterated that ghostly face—a foe even Forbidden Calamity couldn’t resist—with a single blow. ’Maybe he really *can* handle these creatures.’
"Then I must trouble you, Benefactor. Protecting the people of this land is an act of immense merit. This old monk will be sure to light incense and pray for you before the Buddha to repay this kindness."
Yang An couldn’t help but smile. As he watched the Demon Fiends being annihilated by countless beams of light, he knew he wasn’t doing this for merit. He simply couldn’t stand by and do nothing.
"In that case, Master, try not to pray so hard you pass out."
He tossed out the joke casually. Before Forbidden Calamity could even process what he meant, Yang An had already stepped off the city wall and vanished.
Forbidden Calamity seized the opportunity. Controlling Liu Feifei’s body, it hurriedly began repairing the guardian Golden Buddha Statues and re-forming the dense barrier of Buddhist Mantras outside Nirvana City.
Even though Yang An had taken its place on the front lines, it couldn’t afford to let its guard down at the rear, lest the Demon Fiends seize an opportunity to breach the city.
A few moments later, all the light dissipated. The blinding glare faded, and the world returned to its normal hues. A vast number of Demon Fiends had been slain, their bodies reduced to ash.
Yang An now hovered a thousand meters in the air outside the city. He was quite pleased with the results of that single arrow.
After the Bow Lady had completely digested the two souls from the Insect Dao Realm, the most noticeable improvement was the terrifying increase in her arrows’ power. A single, casual shot could now unleash several times its former might.
Combined with the Power of Rules Yang An wielded, he had also managed to fuse the Blood Disaster Technique—a type of Curse Technique—into the attack.
Those beams of light that had just tracked down and slain the Demon Fiends were a new ability, born from the fusion of the Blood Disaster Technique with his arrow’s explosive power. The resulting display was a thousand times more brilliant than any firework.
The Demon Fiends’ arrogance upon arrival was matched only by their pathetic state when facing that arrow.
Forbidden Calamity had killed a portion of them, and Yang An’s arrow had killed another. Now, less than half of the original horde of Demon Fiends remained.
But they weren’t important, just small fry. Yang An’s gaze remained locked on the Great Demon of the Insect Dao. That was the one that mattered.
Now that he was closer, he could finally get a good look at the Great Demon of the Insect Dao. It was every bit as sinister and hideous as one might expect.
It had a humanoid form, standing dozens of feet tall, and its entire body emanated a shifting black aura. More than a dozen sharp weapons were embedded in its flesh, sealing the joints of its limbs and torso and making its movements look incredibly stiff.
The creature’s filthy, matted hair was over ten meters long. Blood trickled from its eyes, congealing into vivid crimson streaks down its face. Its mouth bulged, as if something had been stuffed inside.
The Great Demon of the Insect Dao clearly hadn’t expected someone to interfere just as it was about to devour Forbidden Calamity. It was also stunned by Yang An’s display of power.
Seeing Yang An appear in mid-air, however, filled it with confusion.
"A Zombie God?"
It didn’t open its mouth—which was clearly stuffed with something—but a voice emanated from within its body.
That last attack didn’t seem like something a mere Zombie God could accomplish. It was filled with such immense destructive power—a force that held absolute dominion not just over them, the Demon Fiends, but likely over other Cultivators as well.
It was the Power of Light—a forbidden power!
"You are a Cultivator. Why protect a flock of mortals? It would be better to let us grant them release. Spare them the suffering of this world. Then there would be no need for conflict between us."
The voice that issued from within the Demon Fiend was completely at odds with its appearance. It had the distinct cadence of a worldly scholar or an official.
Judging by the voice alone, one would assume it belonged to a respectable gentleman. Who could have guessed it was coming from a Great Demon of the Insect Dao?
"Twisted logic! If these mortals are so useless to beings like us, both Cultivators and Demon Fiends, then why go to the trouble of slaughtering them like cattle?"
From Yang An’s perspective, no matter how eloquent the demon was, it was merely concocting a plausible-sounding excuse for its kind’s rampant slaughter.
"Mortals are as numerous as ants. Even if we slaughter everyone in this city, they will simply multiply again, wildly and without end. You can never kill them all."
"Besides, you probably don’t realize this, but they are the very source of this world’s sin. Everything they experience becomes sustenance for the world’s collapse."
"You call us Demon Fiends, reviled by all. But what does that make *them*, the ones accelerating the entire world’s demise?"
The Demon Fiend prattled on, showing no immediate intention to attack. Instead, it seemed intent on lecturing Yang An with its grand, twisted philosophy.
This was the first time Yang An had ever heard such a thing from a Demon Fiend, and he found it laughable.
It was common knowledge that the primary difference between Demon Fiends and Cultivators was that a demon fiend’s mind was completely twisted. Their Spiritual Wisdom was chaotic, their desires were magnified, and they were the most deeply corrupted by the world’s filth.
’No matter how high-minded it tries to sound,’ Yang An thought, ’how could I possibly believe a word it says?’
’If mortals are truly the culprits behind the world’s collapse, then what about Cultivators and Demon Fiends? Most of us evolved from mortals. Killing them would be no different from wiping out our own kind.’
’Did the Five Great Celestial Sects of old not know this simple truth?’
’Did none of the Cultivators across ten thousand years of history ever figure this out?’
