Chapter 12: Ch 12. Selena’s Mission
"Stoner Grey, who’s so arrogant and hasn’t once apologised to Selena, is now suffering from a headache?" asked Stevan, his brow furrowed as he looked at Selena, who was still casually chewing her meat.
"That’s right, Dragon King. Earlier, after returning from the Eldoria World Council, His Majesty the Wolf King suddenly came down with a headache. It turns out he’s been suffering from this headache in secret for quite some time, but this is the first time he’s told me.
"The Wolf King said the ailment is a curse placed upon him by the Moon Goddess, but I don’t know the reason why. However, he said that this illness can only be cured by the Healer of Extinction who has been destined for this task," said Derk, lifting his head and looking at Selena.
Stevan also looked at the woman, whilst Selena had already put down the meat she was eating and taken a napkin to wipe the grease from her hands.
"Your Majesty the Queen, I know the Wolf King has treated you badly. I am speaking on his behalf now; please forgive his mistakes... Look at his condition now—the Wolf King is in great pain. Seeing him like this, I fear it may be life-threatening..." Derk said hopefully, whilst Selena let out a sigh.
Stevan himself didn’t dare say too much. Selena’s current nature and personality were not the same as those he had known. She had changed quite a lot; he had worked hard to win her heart, so now he didn’t want to ruin that by joining in and pressuring her.
"Not yet."
Derk looked up, gazing at Selena, who had just spoken those words. "What do you mean, Your Highness?"
Selena looked down at him, still kneeling, and gave a small smile. "It’s not yet time for him to die," replied Selena, and this made Derk’s eyes widen. "The illness does often flare up; he’s simply been enduring it in silence all this time. It will improve in a few minutes’ time. The effect that arises once the pain subsides is that he will forget Mother’s face more and more, and gradually forget himself as well."
Derk stiffened at her words, whilst Stevan swallowed hard in shock. They stared at Selena, who was smiling calmly as if nothing serious were about to happen.
"Will His Majesty the King lose his memories of his mother and of himself?" asked Derk, his voice trembling, as if he hadn’t heard what Selena had just said.
"Yeah." Selena gave a small smile. "As far as I know, it was entirely his own fault."
Derk grew even more tense and worried, but Selena had already stood up and was walking towards him.
"He’s fine now; he’s fallen asleep because the intense pain suddenly vanished. Go home and look after him; tell him he just needs to stay away from the full moon and not go out. It’s hard, but he has to do it. If he defies me, all his memories will be lost and he’ll die within four full moons," said Selena, looking at him seriously.
"Your Highness... are you serious?!"
Selena smiled, then looked away. "I don’t care whether you believe me or not. The point is, for now, he still doesn’t like me and hasn’t apologised for his past mistakes. I also have no intention of helping or saving someone who still hates me—it’s just a waste of my energy," she replied indifferently, causing Derk to swallow hard.
Stevan, seeing Derk helpless and despondent, finally got up and helped him to his feet. He accompanied the man out of Selena’s room; once outside, after closing the door, Stevan looked at Derk, who was still deeply worried.
"Go home. Once the Wolf King wakes up, you must persuade him to apologise and explain to Selena why he lost his memory." Stevan spoke earnestly, causing Derk to draw a heavy sigh. "He is also at fault; Selena simply isn’t willing to forgive him yet because he hasn’t apologised. Selena is the Healer of Extinction in the world of Eldoria; there’s no harm in humbling oneself a little for the sake of survival."
Derk nodded slowly, then saluted and walked away. Stevan went back inside, finding Selena already seated with her eyes closed.
"Is he really on the verge of death? His condition sounds very worrying," said Stevan softly, causing Selena to sigh.
"Stoner has serious problems within his group, which constitute such a grave offence that the Moon Goddess has cast a cruel curse upon him." Selena opened her eyes, then took a sip of water. "He’s far too arrogant and pretends to be strong; I sense that trait is quite pronounced in him, and that’s also why the Moon Goddess harbours a bit of a grudge against him."
Stevan didn’t really understand the world of the Wolves; as the leader of the Dragon pack, he was also worried about his own situation, which was no better than Stoner’s.
"What about me? Will I die and turn to stone, as you said, if I use the Dragon Core—which is my source of power?" asked Stevan, his face full of worry, causing Selena to draw another breath.
Aside from the pleasure of being queen in this world and being a figure needed by these arrogant kings, Selena also realised she would have to be willing to sacrifice everything and go to great lengths to heal them.
This was no easy task, and Selena was still unsure whether she would succeed or not. Relying on herself and her ability to interpret certain events related to them, Selena strove to ensure they would not suffer for eternity.
However, she also knows that her own situation, after saving them all and providing an heir for each of these kings, may well never be the same again. The thought of her own turn to suffer makes her realise that this comes at a high price.
"Avoid hostility or major problems that could lead to a row. That might keep you out of danger, as you’ve only got seven more uses of the Dragon Core left. I am indeed an Extinction Healer, but the methods I can employ at the moment feel far too risky for me personally.
"So, only when you’ve truly run out of other options will I try it. For now, I’ll probably look for another way to stabilise your condition first before treating it. It’d be pointless if I merely provided temporary relief whilst your condition hasn’t improved from within." Selena said, causing Stevan to raise an eyebrow.
"Do you actually mean you can heal me straight away?"
"Yes, there is a way."
Selena swallowed hard, not ready to admit that she could heal them quickly through sexual intercourse. It was just that she knew that method was too instant; they might all be scrambling to do it with her every day, and she could end up dying a gruesome death.
These animal kings are savage; Selena does not want them to treat her carelessly, merely as a means to healing. Although her very survival depends on having sex with these husbands of hers, they neither like nor love her at all.
They could destroy and ruin her body by constantly having sex with her for their own gain; it was no different from the betrayal committed by her wretched husband in the real world.
"How can I help? Perhaps I can assist if it’s really that difficult," said Stevan seriously, his gaze earnest.
The fact that Selena could see the ambition and the need that had to be fulfilled in that man’s eyes made her snort softly.
"I won’t let you know," she replied coldly, unwilling to admit that her body was the key to their healing.
Stevan, seeing that Selena seemed offended, immediately changed his expression. He was afraid of turning to stone and dying, but for now he was even more afraid that Selena would get angry again and come to hate him.
It was better for him to simply wait for Selena’s orders; asking too many questions now might not go down well with her.
"I am destined to be the Healer of Extinction for these wild and savage husbands; I must not end up at their feet, trampled underfoot like Selena Grece," Selena thought to herself.
"How can I make them submit to me? Falling in love is an option too; that way, they’ll treat me with care and tenderness when we make love. Bloody hell, I’m finally entering the difficult stage now. How can I control them so that my life is easier to live?!"
Seeing that Selena was thinking quite hard—her eyebrows furrowed and her aura had turned cold—Stevan finally realised that this woman might be difficult to provoke.
So, he finally cleared his throat softly.
"In that case, I’ll do as you say," said Stevan, snapping Selena out of her reverie. "I won’t bother you any more. Eat in peace; if you need anything or want something else to eat, just let me know."
Selena watched as Stevan began to stand up, then gave a small smile, realising that this man was someone who could be easily manipulated.
Vylen, Stevan and Draven seemed to be the easiest to control; Selena should gradually make all three of them fall in love with her first so that she could heal them more easily.
"Go on then. Tomorrow, could you show me round this palace?"
Stevan gazed at Selena’s face, which looked softer and no longer angry. Had Selena finally chosen him as the first person to be healed?
Stevan was naturally delighted at the thought of that possibility deep down.
"Yes, of course! I’ll take you anywhere you like tomorrow after breakfast."
