Chapter 39: Ch 39. The Green Traitor
Vee was a little surprised to see Selena eating her fried chicken so heartily and rather hurriedly. Her mistress seemed to be taking out her frustration on the food; that was why the whole chicken she’d brought from the Phoenix Palace was already almost nothing but bones.
"Your Majesty, you seem very hungry," Vee said softly.
Meanwhile, Selena, chewing with her cheeks puffed out, snorted in frustration upon seeing that her plate was now nothing but bones.
"Yes, I’m quite hungry and also a little emotional. Only by taking it out on my food like this, without any restraint, can I calm my heart a little," Selena said, her words not very clear because her mouth was full.
Vee nodded awkwardly, then pulled out a handkerchief and wiped the sauce off Selena’s cheek. Selena let her, continuing to bite into the chicken while her thoughts raced through her mind.
"It’s fine—it’s okay if I have to sleep with one of them. To continue this mission to take over the world, I have to do whatever it takes. Besides, it’s just sex, right? I’ve already done it with that damn Jack—it probably won’t feel much different whether I’m with a human or an animal!" Selena muttered to herself.
She had just come back to life after nearly dying in an accident. Her life used to be a total mess and full of bad luck, but today, since she’d been given this stroke of luck, she had to make the most of it.
"Now the problem is, which husband should I choose to spend a steamy night with them? Should I do it on the sly? If I say it outright, they might fight over me because my body also has amazing healing powers," Selena muttered again, tossing a chicken bone onto the plate and grabbing a drink.
Vee was a little worried seeing how Selena had polished off the chicken in just a few minutes. Even though the wild chicken John had caught was quite large, now all that was left were its pitiful bones.
Selena leaned back, closed her eyes, and continued to think, while Vee cleaned up the mess from her meal and took it outside.
Massaging her own head, Selena felt truly dizzy.
If she counted, she’d been alive for about three days, which meant there were 11 days left before she had to—and was obligated to—have sex with one of her husbands to boost her survival abilities. Actually, 11 days wasn’t that long, but it could go by quickly if Selena kept ignoring it.
"Forget it, I’ll deal with it later. When I’m on the verge of death, I’ll just pick one of them—anyone among them will surely be willing to do it with me. Why should I bother thinking about it now?" she snorted, then opened her eyes.
"They all want me, even though none of those damn husbands love me yet. But who cares—love can come later! They’ve got enough problems of their own; getting them to fall in love right now is still pretty difficult. I’d better take care of what needs to be taken care of," she said again, then stood up and put all the herbal medicines she’d just made into a sealed box.
After that, Selena left the room, stretched slowly, and planned to rest for a bit today because later that night she might have to spend a lot of time and energy dealing with John Nix.
"Ugh, tonight also happens to be a full moon. I just hope that annoying Wolf King obeys my orders. If not, he’ll be the one to die," Selena muttered, then sighed and went into her room.
Vee came in shortly afterward, helping her take off the clothes she’d been wearing and put on something more comfortable. Afterward, Selena lay down on the bed, closed her eyes, and let Vee tuck her in.
"Tell them I’m resting for a while if anyone comes looking for me. Wake me up when the sun starts heading west."
Vee nodded obediently. "Yes, Your Majesty. Get some rest; you’re truly exhausted."
Selena murmured, closed her eyes, and fell fast asleep. Vee stayed to watch over her, but then stepped out when someone knocked on the door.
"Your Majesty, the Dragon King," Vee greeted politely upon seeing that it was Stevan.
"Is Selena inside?"
"Yes, Your Majesty. The Queen is sleeping; she’s been busy since this morning and has been preparing medicine for hours. The Queen asked that you wait until she wakes up before seeing her," said Vee, causing Stevan to smile and nod.
"I understand," he replied, then picked up a basket. "I’ve brought some fruits from the Dragon clan; some experts in my clan say these fruits have great medicinal properties. Selena might know about them, so please give these to her so she can use them for
medical purposes."
Vee accepted them politely. "All right, thank you, Your Majesty. I’ll let her know this is a gift from you," Vee said, causing Stevan to nod.
"You must—you have to tell her that so she’ll remember me. I hope that after she’s dealt with the Fox King, she’ll start focusing on me too," Stevan replied.
Vee nodded in understanding, prompting Stevan to stop disturbing the woman’s nap. He left Selena’s room, trying to be mindful of his every movement so he wouldn’t accidentally use his Dragon Core.
To be honest, Stevan used to rarely walk. Even to get to his palace, which wasn’t that far away, he preferred to fly and zip along quickly. But he realized that doing it too often caused him to unconsciously use his Dragon Core.
That was dangerous for him!
"Your Majesty, I’ve detected movement near the Dragon clan’s border. It seems that Traitor Green has begun plotting something. I’m still investigating whether he knows about your weakness, which the Queen revealed in court yesterday. But gaining access is quite difficult," said Bork, Stevan’s assistant, who greeted him upon his arrival at the Dragon Palace.
Stevan sat down in his chair and let out a calm sigh. "It’s no surprise—that Traitor Green has always been a master at evading and hiding," he replied, making Bork a little anxious.
"Then what should we do, Your Majesty? If they really know your weakness, that’ll be a huge problem. The Queen has already said you mustn’t use the Dragon Core—you’re limited to just seven more uses. If, for example, a riot or war breaks out in the Dragon Clan, whether you like it or not, you’ll have to lead the war effort," said Bork, looking genuinely panicked.
Stevan sighed softly, leaned back calmly, and looked at his assistant with a serious expression.
"Why worry? Their group is just a small band that even a well-trained Dragon army could handle. Besides, you’re forgetting two important things, Brok," said Stevan, causing Brok to look at him quickly.
"What have I forgotten, Your Majesty?"
Stevan smiled slightly. "I am a true Dragon; pure dragon blood flows through my veins, and I rule a vast kingdom with thousands of soldiers. That’s the first thing," he said, then took a sip of water that a Dragon servant had poured for him.
Brok nodded in understanding. "I know that, Your Majesty. Then what’s the second thing?" he asked, making Stevan smile again.
"Second, he has a weakness. His small family—I hear his wife just gave birth to their first child. If he threatens me because he knows my weakness, then just threaten him with his own weakness."
