Chapter 38: Ch 38. Mysterious Voice

Selena sat up straight. "Ah, are chickens one of the beastkin in Eldoria? I don’t know if they’re edible or not," she said, making Vee smile.

"Not all animals exist in the world of Eldoria, Your Majesty. Only wild animals of a strong breed and those chosen by the Gods can become members of the beastkin and transform into half-humans. The rest—such as wild chickens, some types of cattle, goats, and the like—cannot transform into half-humans.

"Even within the horse clan, not all can become human; some are merely used as draft animals for carriages. But others become humans with great strength and are chosen to serve as bodyguards, soldiers, or guards for the Eldoria Court," Vee explained, causing Selena to murmur in understanding.

She didn’t know much about it; the memories of this body’s original owner weren’t very extensive either, since the former Selena Grece had merely been a wild beast with little knowledge.

That made her a bit ignorant as well, even though she carried the memories of a human who had lived in the modern era. It was a bit boring, really, because she couldn’t read online novels, watch dramas from various countries, or listen to music here.

After all, everything had already entered a royal era that could be considered quite ancient. Not to mention, Selena lived alongside animals who, of course, didn’t need any of that.

"All right then, make me some fried chicken. I want to eat that, and if there are any, I’d like some french fries too. I’ll finish preparing a medicinal remedy for King Phoenix first, then I’ll head to the dining table," said Selena, making Vee smile and nod.

"I’ll prepare it just the way you like it."

Selena leaned back in her chair, closed her eyes, and sighed again. "I can’t. Once all this is over, I’ll at least have to come up with something to keep me entertained here. Is there a group of people here who can entertain like actors in the real world? God, I might die of boredom if I stay here this long..." she grumbled, her eyes shut in frustration.

She’d only just thought of that now, even though there were so many problems she had to deal with. Being an extinction healer turned out to be quite a hassle; Selena still had to do many things besides healing her five husbands.

It wasn’t her choice, but her instincts and intuition were urging her to do it because it was all connected. She really had no idea how long this would last, whether she’d be able to leave this world again and return to the human world, or whether she could transform this civilization into a modern one.

Selena really had no idea because she’d only been here for less than three days.

"What can I do to make the days go by quickly without a mountain of problems piling up that I have to deal with? It feels like I’m going to die just thinking about all of it." Selena grumbled again, gently banging her head against the back of the chair.

[Healer of Extinction, don’t forget your time limit. You can only extend life for up to two weeks. Try having sex with one of your husbands to extend your lifespan.]

Selena’s eyes snapped open. "What?! Oh my God, I completely forgot about that! Whose damn voice was talking in my head?!" she cursed angrily.

Have sex with one of her husbands with a deadline of just two weeks? Damn it! That’s an insult! Selena had no intention of doing that as long as she could still heal them with the medicines she concocted!

Why did that voice pop up again, as if to warn her?!

From the very beginning, this wasn’t a system—even though she knew her soul was transmigrating into the body of a weak, foolish woman in a world of wild beasts!

[I’m not a system—there’s no such ridiculous system in this world. You can think of me as a God, and I’m the one who elevated you to the rank of Healer of Extinction.]

The voice appeared in her head again, as if it knew exactly what Selena was thinking, so it immediately offered a clarification.

Damn it!

[I chose you from among billions of people on Earth, and it wasn’t without reason. Selena Sewithr, you have excellent analytical skills; even as a child, you dreamed of becoming a doctor, but you forgot about it because, as an adult, you realized life was actually quite tough.]

Those words made Selena stop cursing and instead stand there dumbfounded, like a fool. How could this voice in her head know about her childhood dream—one she’d nearly forgotten?

Selena had indeed wanted to be a doctor back then, but unfortunately, it was incredibly difficult to compete with thousands of high-achieving students for a scholarship! So she could only major in economics and end up working as a corporate slave!

"Do I have to have sex with them? I’m not interested at all... Haven’t you forgotten that they almost killed me when I woke up in this body? The girl they almost killed is supposed to have sex with them? Where’s the rest of my self-respect?!" she protested with an extremely annoyed expression.

[There’s no other way—sleeping with them will give you the energy to survive because this world is different from the real world you came from. They possess powerful abilities because they are, in fact, the strongest beastkin of this era. Just by absorbing a little of their power while sleeping with them, it can increase your own ability to survive as well.]

Selena felt drained after hearing this; she slumped back into her chair listlessly.

"In that case, over the next two weeks I’ll try to heal them, and if I die, so be it," Selena snorted, her face still full of resentment.

[No, your death won’t come that soon. In this world, you’ll live for hundreds of years, bear their children, and rule this world with complete control because you’ve conquered those kings. There are many things happening in this world—interesting things that can enrich your experience.]

[Besides, you’re a queen here—your status is highly esteemed, even more so than the one you held while you were still in the human world. Selena, you must know that this is a second chance the universe has given you to mend your shattered life. Don’t waste it, because you truly aren’t destined to die yet.]

Selena snorted in growing frustration, but there was nothing else she could do. The voice in her head had fallen silent, as if it had deliberately cut off the conversation so Selena would stop complaining.

But damn it, having to make love to them was what was driving Selena half-crazy with frustration. She did enjoy her status as a queen, even though having five husbands—who were useless—was a huge hassle and incredibly annoying.

What made it especially hard was having to have sex with one of her husbands within just two weeks after she’d nearly been executed by them?! None of her five husbands were innocent—they’d all demanded her death—and now she had to have sex with one of them?!

"For the sake of survival... Damn it, what does it mean that I’m not destined to die? Does that mean even if I kill myself, I’ll still wake up in this body again?!" Selena asked with a displeased expression.

But there was no answer; the voice in her head fell silent, and that prompted Selena to pick up a knife lying on the table where she prepared her medicine.

The knife looked sharp enough; if she killed herself by stabbing it into her heart, she would surely die instantly.

Selena took a deep breath, braced herself, and aimed the knife at her heart. But just as she was about to move her hand as quickly as possible to stab her heart, Selena instead deflected the knife so that no part of her body was pierced.

"I don’t have the courage to die... I don’t want to die again... It was painful enough when I died yesterday; I don’t want to do that again..." she lamented, resting her head on the table with a helpless look in her eyes.
