Chapter 132 - spending time with luna
Then the server returned with all the desserts we had ordered.
Ice cream.
Cheesecake.
Pudding.
And many more.
The entire table was practically covered with desserts.
Luna and I stared at them.
Our eyes lit up.
I immediately picked up a spoon and dug into the strawberry ice cream.
I put a spoonful into my mouth and closed my eyes.
A cold, sweet taste spread across my tongue.
Delicious.
I genuinely enjoyed it.
Luna picked up her spoon as well and went straight for the cheesecake.
She took a bite and her eyes immediately lit up.
We began trying the desserts one by one.
Whenever I found something particularly delicious, I shared it with Luna.
And she did the same whenever she found something she liked.
Before I knew it, we had somehow finished everything on the table.
I blinked.
Wait...
How were there so many desserts here?
And how did they disappear so quickly?
I slowly looked toward Luna.
She was still happily munching on the last few bites like a little hamster.
I stared at her for a moment.
Ah.
Now I understand what happened.
The server eventually brought us the bill.
I transferred the payment and added a little extra for her effort.
Then I waved toward her.
"Thank you."
She smiled warmly and waved back.
We put our hoods back on and left the shop.
After that, Luna and I continued exploring the city.
We visited different shops and looked at all kinds of things.
Magic item shops.
Interesting little stores.
Various magical tools.
There was always something new to see.
We talked almost the entire time.
I did, however, remain extremely careful about one thing.
I made sure Luna never noticed any clothing shops.
I wasn’t taking that risk.
Once was enough.
I wasn’t going through another clothing nightmare.
Eventually, we came across something neither of us expected.
A movie theater.
Luna and I looked at each other.
Our eyes immediately lit up.
"Let’s go."
We bought two tickets and entered.
The movie happened to be a comedy.
And it was surprisingly entertaining.
We laughed throughout most of it.
By the time the movie ended, the sun was already beginning to set.
We decided it was finally time to return home.
We walked back together, still talking about everything we’d done that day.
When we finally reached the palace, Luna smiled.
"I really enjoyed today."
"Me too."
She waved at me.
"Good night, Gray."
"Good night, Luna."
She turned and headed toward her room.
I watched her leave.
I’m really glad no one caused trouble today.
That would’ve been annoying.
I didn’t want to spend my relaxing day dealing with someone looking for trouble.
I then returned to my own room.
And just like that...
Our peaceful break was over.
From that point onward, Luna and I returned to training together.
That old man continued teaching us all kinds of survival tips and practical techniques.
We practiced controlling our spells.
We refined our movements.
And, most importantly, we worked on reducing our mana consumption.
There was no point in having powerful spells if we wasted half our mana every time we used them.
Little by little, our control became more precise.
And the tournament drew closer with every passing day.
Now, only a few weeks remained before the tournament.
Our instructor eventually decided it was time to end his regular training.
"From here on, the rest is up to you."
"You know your own weaknesses better than anyone. Improve the things you lack and prepare yourselves for the tournament."
Luna, Elara, and I nodded.
Our instructor gave us one last look before turning around and leaving the training hall.
I watched him leave before turning toward Luna and Elara.
"So, what are you two planning to do during these two weeks?"
"I’m planning to improve my control over Space and try out some new spells."
Luna thought for a moment before looking at me.
"How about we spar during these two weeks?"
"We could improve a lot that way."
I thought about it for a moment.
She had a point.
Sparring would let us discover weaknesses that wouldn’t be obvious during normal training.
I nodded.
"Hmm... that’s a good idea."
Then I looked at Elara.
"What do you think? Are you in?"
She immediately nodded.
"That sounds good."
"But I need to improve my swordsmanship first. My sword art is a little difficult to practice."
Luna and I looked at her.
Then we remembered.
Elara was practicing a high-level sword art, so it wasn’t something she could simply master through sparring.
"Alright," I said. "Practice it for now."
"Once you make some progress, come and spar with us. That way, you can improve it even more."
I said that because if Elara started sparring with us right away, she would have to practice a sword art created by someone else while simultaneously fighting an opponent.
That would make things much harder for her.
Once she became more familiar with the sword art, she could use sparring to test it in actual combat and learn how to adapt it.
Elara nodded.
"Alright."
She gave us a small wave.
"I’ll see you two later."
"See you, Elara."
We waved back as she left the training hall.
I looked toward Luna.
"Then I guess we have our plan."
She smiled.
"Yep."
The tournament was only a few weeks away.
And these two weeks would be our final chance to prepare ourselves properly.
We mostly ignored Chloe and Eithen.
It wasn’t because we disliked them or anything.
I simply didn’t feel the need to force myself into someone’s life just to become friends.
If they wanted to become friends with us, they could approach us themselves.
And if they didn’t...
Then I didn’t really care what they did.
However, I noticed Eithen occasionally glancing toward Luna.
Luna simply ignored him.
I didn’t say anything either.
But I kept a mental note.
If he crossed the line...
Then he shouldn’t blame me for being harsh.
A small smirk appeared on my face.
With that, Luna and I left the training grounds.
We returned to our rooms and spent the rest of the day normally.
The next day, Luna and I met again.
We took our swords and began sparring.
This time, I didn’t hold back.
However, I didn’t use Space.
I wanted to see how well I could fight using my normal abilities.
Our swords clashed again and again.
Neither of us had an overwhelming advantage.
We fought until we were exhausted, and during every battle, we learned something new about each other.
More importantly...
We learned each other’s weaknesses.
Whenever one of us discovered a weakness, we immediately tried to exploit it.
And if the other person failed to cover it during the next spar—
They paid the price.
There was no point in knowing your own weaknesses if you weren’t going to fix them.
After several days of this, Elara eventually joined us.
From then on, the three of us took turns sparring with each other.
Sometimes I fought Luna.
Sometimes I fought Elara.
Sometimes they fought each other.
And occasionally...
I used Space against Luna.
At first, she struggled against it.
Space was simply too unpredictable.
But after fighting against it repeatedly, she gradually became accustomed to it.
She started recognizing my movements.
She learned how I used Space.
And more importantly...
She began figuring out how to fight against it.
We were all improving together.
But there was one problem I had during my fights with Luna.
I couldn’t bring myself to intentionally hurt her.
Yet I didn’t want to hold back either.
I had seen how hard she trained.
I knew how much effort she put into becoming stronger.
So if I deliberately held back against her...
Wouldn’t that be the same as looking down on all the hard work she had put in?
I didn’t want that.
So I fought her seriously.
I used everything I could.
And I defeated her many times.
But Luna never became discouraged.
Instead—
Every defeat only motivated her more.
She would get back up, learn from her mistakes, and challenge me again.
And every time she lost, she became a little better.
I couldn’t help but smile whenever I saw that.
Eventually, our final day of training arrived.
Our instructor’s training had already ended.
And now, our own preparation had come to an end as well.
Tomorrow...
We would leave for the tournament.
I looked toward Luna.
She looked just as excited.
A grin slowly appeared on my face.
Finally.
The tournament was here.
And I couldn’t wait to see what was waiting for us.
