Chapter 136 - meeting with luna
Luna looked around.
Then she coated her body in light and immediately located the elf.
She sprinted toward him like a bolt of lightning.
The elf reacted quickly.
Lightning surged around his body as he moved between the trees.
Luna couldn’t bring out the full potential of her Light Affinity yet, but it was still more than enough to keep up with him.
She disappeared from her position and chased after the elf.
As she moved, she raised her hand.
"Ice Spear."
Several ice spears shot toward the tree trunks the elf was using to move around.
One after another, they embedded themselves into the trees.
Luna wasn’t attacking randomly.
She was slowly creating a trap.
I took another handful of popcorn and casually put it into my mouth.
Then I continued watching her graceful movements.
The elf noticed that Luna was following him closely.
He immediately changed his route.
He jumped from one tree to another while firing arrows toward her.
The arrows were infused with lightning and moved incredibly fast.
Luna dodged them one after another while keeping her eyes locked on the elf.
She didn’t chase him blindly.
Instead, she waited.
She was looking for an opportunity.
And then—
The elf stepped onto a spot where Luna had previously fired an Ice Spear.
His foot slipped.
His balance was broken for just a moment.
Luna’s face immediately lit up like the sun.
She had been waiting for exactly this.
She rushed forward.
In an instant, she appeared in front of him.
Her sword stopped right beside his neck.
"Surrender."
The elf froze.
He looked at Luna with a deep frown.
But there was no desire to surrender in his eyes.
He clearly wasn’t willing to accept defeat.
I took another handful of popcorn.
Then I began forming a Space Bullet.
I didn’t fire it immediately.
Instead, I waited.
I compressed the space around the bullet further and further.
My eyes remained fixed on Luna’s surroundings.
A little more...
Just a little more...
Then—
I fired.
The Space Bullet shot forward at maximum speed.
It moved like a beam of light.
But it didn’t travel directly toward the elf.
Instead, it passed behind Luna.
Space distorted around it.
Then—
BOOM!
The attack pierced through the distorted space and struck someone hiding behind Luna.
A figure suddenly appeared.
Blood splattered from his body as he was thrown backward.
He had been using Shadow Affinity to conceal himself.
He had been waiting for the perfect moment to assassinate Luna.
But his plan had failed.
His body disappeared into countless particles of light.
A small smile appeared on my face.
He probably thought that because he was hiding in the shadows, I wouldn’t be able to see him.
"Naive."
"If you think I’m going to let you hurt Luna..."
I shook my head.
"That’s not happening."
I put the popcorn away and walked toward Luna.
The elf was still on the ground.
He had finally realized what had happened.
Despair appeared on his face.
I noticed his expression and smiled brightly.
"Ah."
"That’s the expression I’ve been missing."
"But don’t worry."
"I’ll free you from your despair."
I raised my hand.
A dark bullet formed.
Then I fired it directly at his token.
Crack!
The token shattered.
I waved toward him.
"Bye."
The elf’s body immediately disappeared from the examination.
Luna looked at me in confusion.
"When did you get here?"
Then she suddenly realized what had happened.
She looked toward the spot where the assassin had disappeared.
Her expression changed slightly.
She had almost been eliminated without even realizing someone was behind her.
She looked back at me.
"Thank you."
I simply waved my hand.
"It’s nothing."
Outside the examination
The Empress had watched the entire thing.
A satisfied smile appeared on her face.
"Hmm."
"He’s excellent."
"My daughter still has a lot to learn, but that’s fine."
"She’s still young."
She glanced toward Seraphina.
"But your son did an excellent job."
"He pretended to be completely relaxed and waited for the enemy to make their move, just like a hunter waiting for its prey."
"And when the moment came, he finished the enemy without even the slightest hesitation."
Seraphina nodded.
"That’s Gray."
"He only hesitates when his actions could affect someone he cares about."
"If it’s someone outside of that circle..."
She smiled faintly.
"He simply doesn’t care."
The Empress nodded.
"My daughter is similar in that regard."
Back to Gray
After Luna thanked me, she looked at me for a moment.
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
"Gray."
I looked at her.
"Yes?"
"Why, Luna?"
She didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, she looked around.
Then her eyes landed on something.
A small pile of spilled popcorn.
And an empty bottle of grape juice.
Her eyes narrowed further.
She slowly connected the dots.
Then a chilling smile appeared on her face.
"Can you tell me how long you’ve been watching me?"
I immediately looked at her with a surprised expression.
"Ah?"
"What makes you say that, Luna?"
"I..."
She pointed toward the popcorn.
Then she pointed toward the empty juice bottle.
I looked at them.
Then I looked back at her smiling face.
"Oh."
"I wonder who left those things there."
Luna’s mouth twitched.
"You..."
"I know you."
"You’ve been sitting there eating popcorn and watching my fight like you’re watching a show."
I waved my hand.
"That’s not the full truth."
She stared at me.
Then she took a deep breath.
She was probably remembering the assassin from earlier.
She understood that I had been watching for a reason.
But before she could say anything, I added:
"I also drank a bottle of grape juice."
"It’s pretty tasty."
A massive black line appeared across Luna’s forehead.
"You..."
"You..."
I didn’t wait for her to finish.
I immediately turned around and ran.
"Ahhh!"
"Someone help me!"
"The enraged evil princess is chasing me!"
"Gray!"
Luna immediately chased after me.
But even she couldn’t stop herself from laughing.
"You...!"
I glanced back at her.
"How about we just let bygones be bygones?"
"If you want, I can give you some grape juice too."
"It’s really tasty."
Luna stopped.
She looked at me with a mixture of amusement and helplessness.
She knew that chasing me would only encourage me.
So instead, she turned around.
She walked toward a nearby tree and sat down beneath it.
Then she puffed out her cheeks and put on a pitiful expression.
I stopped.
My eyes widened.
’Oh no.’
’Did I go too far?’
’But she was completely fine a moment ago.’
’Is she actually annoyed because I always run away from her?’
A thousand thoughts flashed through my mind.
Not a single one suggested that she might be acting.
I immediately walked toward her.
"Luna..."
"I was just joking."
"I didn’t mean to—"
I started explaining, stumbling over my words.
Outside
The Empress watched the entire scene.
Her shoulders shook as she tried to hold back her laughter.
"Ah..."
"My daughter has learned quite a lot."
She pointed toward the screen.
"Look at that brat."
"He looked so smug a moment ago, controlling the entire situation like an expert."
"And now?"
"He’s stammering like a little chick."
She couldn’t hold back anymore.
"Hahaha!"
"He didn’t even consider that this might be a trap."
"Oh, little Gray..."
"This is far more entertaining than watching an actual fight."
Seraphina smiled beside her.
She watched Gray’s panicked expression.
Despite herself, she couldn’t help but smile as well.
Back to Gray
I continued trying to explain myself.
But Luna maintained her pitiful expression.
She didn’t say anything.
She simply kept looking sad.
I became even more nervous.
Eventually, I moved closer.
Then Luna suddenly reached out and grabbed my hand tightly.
I froze.
I looked at her in confusion and bewilderment.
"Luna?"
Before she could do anything—
I sensed something.
My expression immediately changed.
An energy blast was flying toward us.
My eyes narrowed.
That attack wasn’t meant to scare us.
It was aimed directly at both of us.
I immediately turned toward the incoming attack.
"Devour."
Darkness surged around me.
I absorbed the entire blast before it could reach us.
Luna noticed it as well.
Her playful expression disappeared.
Her eyes sharpened.
She immediately turned toward the direction the attack had come from.
A few meters away stood a dwarf.
He was holding a strange magical gun in his hands.
And he was aiming it directly at us.
I took Eclipse and tightened my grip around the hilt.
I was about to activate Void Step when Luna suddenly moved in front of me.
I looked at her in surprise.
She was already holding her sword.
Without saying a word, she activated her movement art and rushed toward the dwarf.
The dwarf immediately realized the situation had changed.
He had thought we had lowered our guard.
That was why he had taken the opportunity to attack us.
But now...
It was two against one.
He turned around and tried to run.
Unfortunately for him, Luna had already closed the distance.
The dwarf gritted his teeth and hurriedly raised his magic gun.
He had clearly realized that staying here would only get him eliminated.
But Luna wasn’t going to give him the chance.
She appeared in front of him and swung her sword.
The dwarf barely managed to block the attack.
Clang!
The impact forced him several steps backward.
Luna didn’t give him any time to recover.
She continued attacking, her sword movements becoming faster with every strike.
I watched from behind.
A small smile appeared on my face.
She wanted to handle this herself.
Fine.
I’ll let her.
After all, she had almost been eliminated because of that assassin earlier.
Maybe this was a good opportunity for her to vent a little.
And maybe she just forgot about past and overlooked those things i smiled at that and followed her.
