Chapter 138 - unexpected situation
We sat in a corner and watched the elves and beastmen fight.
The battle had already been going on for quite some time, and both sides were clearly taking it seriously.
The most noticeable person on the elven side was an elf princess.
It was obvious from her movements that she was much more skilled and experienced than the others. She was also the one commanding the team, giving orders while fighting alongside them.
The beastmen also seemed to have their own leader, who was directing their movements.

This fight was getting interesting.
I grabbed another candy apple and started eating.

The two of us disappeared from our spot and reappeared a short distance away.
I turned toward the place where we’d been sitting.
My eyes immediately darkened.
A massive explosion had destroyed the area.
Dust and debris filled the air.
And in the middle of it stood that dragon bastard.
He had transformed into his half-dragon form.
A grin spread across his face as he looked at the destruction.
His teammates followed behind him.
I slowly pulled Eclipse from its sheath.
So he finally came after me.
I glanced at Luna.
She was fine.
Good.
I immediately activated Void Step.
Today, I’m going to teach that bastard never to mess with me.
I didn’t hesitate.
In an instant, I appeared directly in front of the Dragon Prince.
I coated Eclipse with Space energy and swung.
Slash!
My blade tore across his chest.
Blood immediately gushed from the wound like a fountain.
I used Blink to retreat before he could counterattack.
The Dragon Prince screamed in pain.
A clean line had been carved across his chest, and blood poured from the wound in a massive amount.
Even his dragon scales couldn’t completely defend against my attack.
Outside
The Empress and the other kingdom leaders were watching the battle through the viewing magic.
The Elf Queen was already furious.
"That human is despicable!"
She turned toward the Empress.
"My daughter was about to finish that fight. The moment she does, that human will simply attack her and eliminate her!"
The Empress didn’t even look worried.
Instead, she laughed.
She had watched her daughter earlier.
Luna had been the one who suggested they attack the elves or beastmen first.
Then Gray had suggested they sit in a corner, eat snacks, and watch the fight instead.
And Luna had happily joined him.
The Empress found the whole thing amusing.
Her daughter, who was normally so reserved and calm, had become much more cheerful around Gray.
She had even started joining in on his mischief.
Then the Empress saw the Dragon Prince’s attack.
Gray immediately grabbed Luna and teleported them away.
Her smile disappeared for a moment.
Then she heard an arrogant voice beside her.
"The human’s time is up now."
The Empress slowly turned her head.
Her eyes narrowed when she saw the Dragon Lord.
He wore a contemptuous smile.
The Empress said nothing.
There was no need.
She simply turned her attention back toward the battlefield.
A moment later, she saw Gray appear in front of the Dragon Prince.
His sword flashed.
A brutal slash tore across the Dragon Prince’s chest.
The Empress covered her mouth.
Then she giggled.
"Oh my... that must hurt."
She glanced at the Dragon Lord.
"Look at his face. Oh, poor thing."
The Dragon Lord’s expression darkened.
Back to Gray
The moment I used Blink to retreat, I suddenly felt a heavy impact against my body.
BOOM!
A dragon’s fist slammed into me.
I was sent flying.
A small trail of blood seeped from the corner of my mouth as I crashed onto the ground.
I quickly pushed myself back up and tightened my grip around Eclipse.
Ah... I got careless.
I’m not fighting a single opponent.
Luna immediately noticed me getting hit and tried to move toward me.
But several dragons stepped in front of her.
They attacked her before she could reach me.
I fully stood up.
"I’m fine."
I looked toward Luna.
"Focus on your enemies. I’ll take care of my side."
One of the dragons sneered.
"What an arrogant human. Do you really think you can take all of us on alone?"
I looked at him.
"If you think that, then you’re a delusional idiot."
A grin slowly spread across my face.
"We’ll see about that."
I sprinted toward him.
The healing ability of Eclipse was already repairing my injuries and restoring my lost stamina.
I didn’t have to hold back.
They were dragons.
To me, they were like beasts.
No...
They were beasts.
And I would treat them like monsters I was hunting.
Still, I knew my limits.
I couldn’t take all of them at once.
Luna was fighting three.
I had four on my side, excluding the Dragon Prince.
Three of them were a year older than us, while Luna had one opponent who was older than her.
I gripped Eclipse tightly and looked at the dragons coldly.
"Okay."
I smiled.
"Come at me, you skinny lizards. I’ll skin you alive."
One of them took the bait immediately.
"You—!"
He charged toward me.
Another dragon shouted,
"You idiot! Don’t take the bait!"
Too late.
I vanished with Blink.
I appeared directly beside him.
Eclipse plunged into his heart.
His eyes widened.
I pulled my sword free.
"One down."
The remaining dragons immediately became more cautious.
I knew that was probably the last time I could catch them off guard so easily.
One of the dragons in the middle shouted,
"Be careful of your surroundings! That freak of a human can teleport!"
I appeared beside him.
"Oh?"
I tilted my head.
"You hurt my feelings."
I raised Eclipse.
"And that’s not good."
I infused my sword with Gravity and swung.
CLANG!
My blade struck his defense.
But instead of cutting through, it felt like I’d hit a massive piece of iron.
My sword was deflected away.
The dragon grinned.
"Humans... do you really think you can break my defense with your petty tricks?"
He immediately counterattacked.
A fist covered in flames came toward me.
I backed away, but the attack still caught me.
Blood appeared across several parts of my body.
My skin continued burning from the flames.
I gritted my teeth.
Then I activated Devour.
The flames surrounding my body were rapidly absorbed.
The dragon’s eyes widened.
He clearly hadn’t expected me to get rid of his flames so quickly.
But while I was recovering, my Perception suddenly detected another presence.
My eyes widened slightly.
That bastard...
The Dragon Prince.
I hadn’t been keeping close track of him because of his injuries.
But somehow, he had recovered enough to return.
He appeared beside the others and screamed,
"You bastard human! I’ll kill you!"
I didn’t have time to think.
His attack came straight toward me.
I immediately teleported away and took a defensive stance.
I’m injured.
Eclipse was healing me, but its effects were still too slow to completely restore my condition.
So I needed to buy time.
But the dragons quickly surrounded me again.
The Dragon Prince shouted,
"Don’t let him escape! He can’t teleport long distances!"
My eyes narrowed.
He already figured that out, huh?
I tightened my grip around Eclipse.
No matter.
I wasn’t planning on running in the first place.
I glanced toward Luna.
She had already defeated one of the dragons.
But she was now fighting the remaining two.
She was beginning to get overwhelmed by their fire attacks.
Luna’s Ice magic could keep up with ordinary flames, but dragon fire was on an entirely different level.
It was much more powerful.
And Luna was having a hard time dealing with it.
Outside
The Empress watched the battle closely.
She was more than satisfied with both Luna and Gray’s performance.
Luna was fighting with everything she had, adapting to the dragons’ overwhelming flames while constantly searching for an opening.
And Gray...
He wasn’t holding back at all.
Every time an opportunity appeared, he attacked immediately. He didn’t waste a single opening, and even when he made a mistake, he quickly adapted.
The Empress smiled.
She was proud of them.
Especially Gray.
On the other hand, the Dragon Lord’s expression had become increasingly grim.
His entire team was struggling against two humans.
To him, that was humiliating.
Eight of his dragon kin had gone against two humans.
And yet, several of them had already been eliminated.
Even if they eventually won, what was there to be proud of?
Eight dragons defeating two humans after losing several members wasn’t exactly something he could boast about.
So the Dragon Lord remained silent.
His pride wouldn’t allow him to say anything.
He simply watched the battle with a dark expression.
Meanwhile, Seraphina’s attention was completely focused on her son.
She watched Gray fight like an experienced warrior.
She noticed every mistake he made.
But what impressed her most was what happened afterward.
Every time Gray made a mistake, he made sure not to repeat it.
He adapted almost immediately.
That was what she wanted to see.
Of course, seeing her son injured still hurt her.
Every wound, every drop of blood made her heart tighten.
But Seraphina understood something better than almost anyone else.
If Gray never experienced pain, if he never made mistakes, and if he never faced opponents capable of hurting him, then those mistakes would eventually cost him much more in the future.
She didn’t want her son to grow up believing he was invincible.
She wanted him to understand his limits.
To learn from his mistakes.
And most importantly...
To survive.
So despite the pain in her heart, Seraphina continued watching carefully.
She wouldn’t interfere
This was something Gray needed to overcome himself.
