Chapter 57: Infertility
Chenyang’s greatest dream was to work at a major hospital.
As things stood, two people could help him achieve this dream.
One was Qin Fei’Er; the other, Liu Yun.
Relatively speaking, getting help from Qin Fei’Er would probably be easier.
But Chenyang didn’t want to pin all his hopes on her, nor was he willing to rely on Qin Fei’Er for every little thing.
The bad blood between him and Li Qiang, as well as his affair with Lin Xiaowei, were bound to come to light eventually.
The moment Qin Fei’Er found out that Li Qiang and Chenyang were enemies, or that the new daughter-in-law her family had just welcomed didn’t even like her son and had gone so far as to sleep with Chenyang, she would surely erupt in a thunderous rage.
When that happened, out of sheer vengeance, Qin Fei’Er wouldn’t just get Lin Xiaowei fired; she would also make sure Chenyang had no future in Yang City.
Getting help from Liu Yun, on the other hand, wouldn’t solve everything, but it would at least give Chenyang some breathing room when the conflict inevitably erupted.
After all, Lin Xiaowei had just said it herself: Liu Yun was extremely professional and wouldn’t bend her principles for friends or family.
This meant that as long as Chenyang could prove his skills and meet her standards for a good doctor, then even if Qin Fei’Er tried to retaliate against him later, Liu Yun would likely act as a buffer in his favor.
Of course, there was another, more important point.
If Chenyang wanted to work at the City Hospital, he couldn’t avoid Liu Yun, no matter who pulled the strings to get him in.
Rather than wait for Qin Fei’Er to pull some strings and get him in through the back door, only to earn Liu Yun’s contempt, it was better to approach her directly from the start.
Of course, his intentions couldn’t be too obvious. While making contact, Chenyang also had to demonstrate some of his capabilities.
He was aiming for long-term, stable career growth. Therefore, if he wanted to get on Liu Yun’s good side, the best method was to not only prove his abilities but also win her approval.
And what Lin Xiaowei was about to reveal might just be the perfect opportunity for Chenyang to prove himself.
So, the moment she finished speaking, Chenyang immediately pressed, "Spit it out. What is it? What could make her make an exception to bring me into the hospital and maybe even make me a permanent employee right away?!"
Lin Xiaowei didn’t answer right away. Instead, she gave him a strange look and said, "I can tell you, but you have to answer a question for me first."
"And if I don’t, I suppose you’re not going to tell me?"
"Well..."
"Lin Xiaowei, you should know the consequences of threatening me."
Seeing Chenyang’s expression darken, Lin Xiaowei immediately shook her head. "Don’t be angry. I was just curious about one little thing. Even if you don’t answer, I was still going to tell you about Liu Yun."
"Tell me first. If I’m satisfied, I might consider answering your question."
"Fine."
Lin Xiaowei pouted, feeling both resentful and wronged.
’Chenyang was the one asking *her* for a favor. As the person being asked, she should have had the right to play a little hard to get. If not demand some sort of payment, she should at least be able to ask a question and have him tripping over himself to answer.’
’But now, things had turned completely around. Not only was she the one eagerly offering help, but she also had to walk on eggshells around him.’
’Thinking about it made Lin Xiaowei so angry she wanted to scream profanities.’
’But she didn’t dare.’
Because her affair with Chenyang was a ticking time bomb that could destroy her entire life.
If Chenyang told Qin Fei’Er, the worst that would happen to him was being kicked out of the house. She, on the other hand, would lose her job and might even be blacklisted from the entire medical community in Yang City.
Helpless, the resentful curses died on her lips.
After a silent sigh, she began her story. "I heard that Aunt Liu has been married for four years but has never been able to conceive. At first, she ran some tests on herself at the hospital and found nothing wrong, so she figured the problem was with her husband. But he refused to get tested, worried about what people would think, and insisted he was perfectly fine.
They argued about it many times and even came close to divorcing. Eventually, they compromised and went to get tested in another city. The results showed that her husband was fine, too—all his levels were normal. Since he hadn’t wanted to go in the first place, finding out he was healthy made him feel like Aunt Liu was just looking for trouble. He muttered that maybe the problem was with her after all, and she was just trying to pin the blame on him.
Aunt Liu was furious. After all, she’d already been tested and the results came back clean. To prove it to her husband once and for all, she got tested again. But this time, the results showed that the problem was, in fact, with her."
Hearing this, Chenyang frowned. "Regardless of whose problem it is, with her resources, shouldn’t it be easy to solve?"
"If it were a common issue or even a typical complex case, Aunt Liu could have handled it herself. But her problem is a rare condition, one with virtually no documented successful treatments in medical history. It’s also a very deeply hidden illness, which makes it difficult to treat and even harder to cure. That’s why the first tests didn’t catch it.
When her husband found out, he immediately gave her an ultimatum: solve the problem within three years, or they’re getting a divorce!"
"That’s so fucked up. It’s not Aunt Liu’s fault she got sick. Demanding a divorce over it is just completely irresponsible."
"He’s rich and powerful. For people like him, marriage is about continuing the family line and strengthening the clan. If you can’t bear his children, of course he’s going to find someone who can. That’s just reality."
Chenyang’s lips twitched. He changed the subject. "So the opportunity you mentioned... you want me to be the one to cure Liu Yun’s illness, don’t you?"
"Exactly. If you can solve this problem for her, she won’t just bring you into the hospital and give you a permanent position—she’d probably poach you with a high salary to be a deputy director!"
