Chapter 162
An Xiaoqing’s expression darkened the moment she heard what Gao Tianqi said.
Earlier, when she had proposed making Chenyang a doctor at the hospital, Gao Tianqi hadn’t seemed resentful and backed into a corner, nor had he acted like he had a confident solution.
She had found it suspicious at the time, wondering what he was up to.
But then she figured Gao Tianqi must have been blinded by anger, failing to realize that if Chenyang became a doctor, he would be immune to the security team’s harassment.
Now, however, she finally understood.
’Gao Tianqi had thought of a countermeasure all along. He just hadn’t said anything back then to lull me into a false sense of security, and to pin these fabricated crimes on me!’
She was the head of Human Resources.
Recruiting outstanding doctors for the hospital came with rewards.
But if the people she brought in had substandard medical skills or moral character, she would face punishment.
After all, a doctor’s skill and character didn’t just affect the hospital’s reputation; they were directly tied to the safety and survival of the patients!
One slip-up could be disastrous.
Hiring someone with subpar medical skills already had severe consequences. But if Chenyang knew nothing about medicine and wasn’t even a legitimate doctor, she wouldn’t just be facing dismissal—she could even end up in prison!
At this thought, An Xiaoqing’s assertive demeanor completely evaporated.
Her gaze toward Chenyang now held a new message: ’I’m afraid I can’t help you anymore.’
Seeing this, Gao Tianqi immediately grew smug.
"Captain Wang, Director An is out of arguments. Get to it."
Wang Hongtu didn’t act rashly. After all, this matter involved more than just Director Gao.
He took a deep breath. "Director An, do you... have anything else to say? If you can prove Chenyang is a doctor here, we’ll leave right now. But if you can’t, we’ll have to take action."
An Xiaoqing’s lips moved. "He is, in fact, here to apply for a position."
"And was his application successful?"
"Well..."
An Xiaoqing desperately wanted to say that he had been hired.
But she didn’t have the confidence to.
If Chenyang’s medical skills weren’t up to standard—or worse, if he knew nothing about medicine at all—her defense of him now would become the very shackles that would bind her later!
But this whole situation had started because of her, after all.
She couldn’t just stand by and let Chenyang get beaten up, no matter what.
Steeling herself, An Xiaoqing said, "Captain Wang, is there really no room for discussion?"
Wang Hongtu shook his head. "If he hasn’t been successfully hired, he isn’t considered one of our doctors. As per the rules, we must apprehend him, just as Director Gao instructed."
"He hasn’t been hired yet, but it’s not because he isn’t qualified. A personal matter of mine delayed the application process, so the responsibility is on me.
I’m asking you to give me some time now to complete the hiring process."
"No way!" Gao Tianqi instantly shut down her request. "Don’t even think about stalling for time. One look at this kid and you can tell he doesn’t know a thing about medicine. He’s not a doctor, so what damn process is there to go through?!"
An Xiaoqing gritted her teeth and shot back, "But what if he’s an excellent doctor? If you stop him and hurt him now, you’ll be offending a medical talent this hospital desperately needs."
Gao Tianqi laughed derisively as if he’d just heard the world’s biggest joke. "Hahaha, a talent? Are you fucking kidding me? A guy who looks like that, you call him a talent?"
"And what if he is? What if he’s a real talent? Then targeting him now would be a violation of hospital policy. Don’t forget what the presidents have all said: the foundation of the City Hospital is its doctors. No manager can afford to lose a talented individual, much less humiliate one!"
"Yes, the leadership said that," Gao Tianqi retorted, "but open your eyes and take a good look at that guy next to you. Other than the reek of poverty, does he have even a shred of a talented person’s aura?"
Gao Tianqi shook his head and said arrogantly, "Forget talent. Look at this loser. If he knows even a lick of medicine, I’ll fucking take his last name!"
"Director Gao, I’d advise you to take that back. Otherwise, we’ll have to start calling you Director Chen."
Just then, a slightly teasing voice suddenly drifted in from outside the door.
