Chapter 161
Wang Hongtu and his men had been ready to take action immediately.
The hospital director had once said that if any outsider caused trouble and threatened the safety of the medical staff, the security guards could intervene immediately without asking questions.
No matter how badly the person was beaten, the hospital would smooth things over!
However, when it came to internal disputes, the security guards were strictly forbidden from intervening—not even if the fight threatened to level the hospital, let alone a simple brawl.
If any guard was caught taking sides with a doctor or nurse, or getting involved themselves, they would be fired on the spot, never to be rehired.
These two points were rules that every security guard at the City Hospital had to follow.
They were red lines they could not cross.
So when An Xiaoqing announced that Chenyang was also a hospital doctor, their advance came to a sudden halt.
They all instinctively looked over at Chenyang, ready to apologize.
However, upon getting a clear look at Chenyang’s unfamiliar face, Wang Hongtu couldn’t help but ask suspiciously, "Director An, is he really one of our hospital’s doctors?"
"Of course!"
An Xiaoqing nodded immediately.
But before she could continue, Gao Tianqi roared, "Like hell he is! This kid isn’t a doctor here. An Xiaoqing is just trying to cover for this outsider who’s causing trouble."
Wang Hongtu frowned. "Director An, you know the hospital’s rules. Everyone, from the hospital director down to us guards and even the janitors, has zero tolerance for outsiders causing trouble. If the situation is as Director Gao described, I strongly advise you not to protect someone you shouldn’t. It will have consequences for you as well."
An Xiaoqing stepped in front of Chenyang to shield him. "Gao Tianqi is only saying he isn’t a doctor here because he wants to get malicious revenge on Chenyang."
"Heh, don’t you find that laughable?" Gao Tianqi sneered. "Captain Wang and his men have been working at this hospital for a long time. If Chenyang were really a doctor here, they would surely know him. Go on, ask them. Does a single one of them recognize Chenyang?"
The security guards all shook their heads.
"Never seen him."
"He’s a complete stranger. Besides, doctors wear white coats when they’re on duty. He’s just in street clothes, and he doesn’t look like a doctor at all."
"Director An, you heard them. It’s not just my men—I don’t recognize the person behind you either."
"He’s new, that’s why you don’t recognize him."
Hearing this, Wang Hongtu and the others all frowned.
Over several years of development, the City Hospital had recruited and built up a roster of many excellent doctors.
Many departments were already nearing full capacity.
In the last year or two especially, the hospital had all but stopped hiring regular doctors. The only exceptions were for a few major figures in the medical field poached with high salaries, or for outstanding students selected from affiliated universities.
Of course, "all but stopped" didn’t mean they *never* hired.
One or two new doctors might still join every six months or so.
So it wasn’t surprising that the security guards wouldn’t recognize a brand-new doctor.
Moreover, the claim that Chenyang had just been hired came from a director’s own mouth, which made it all the more believable.
With this in mind, Wang Hongtu turned to Gao Tianqi. "Director Gao, there must be some kind of misunderstanding. You and Director An are both hospital leaders. It’s not our place to interfere in a matter between you two, so we’ll let you resolve it on your own."
Seeing him about to leave, Gao Tianqi hastily cut in, "Wait! An Xiaoqing is fooling you. As hospital employees, you know full well that once someone is officially hired—whether they’re a doctor or a guard—they get a personnel file and an ID badge. Go on, ask An Xiaoqing if Chenyang has either of those!"
An Xiaoqing quickly replied, "His onboarding paperwork is still being processed, so his badge hasn’t been issued yet."
"What damn process?" Gao Tianqi scoffed. "We don’t even know if he has any medical skills, or if he’s even a real doctor! What gives you the authority to hire him?"
After his derisive comment, Gao Tianqi’s tone sharpened. "According to regulations, anyone without an ID badge cannot be considered an employee of the City Hospital. Furthermore, I now have serious doubts that he knows any medicine at all. I don’t even think he’s here to apply for a position as a doctor.
"As for you, Director An, your desperate attempt to force someone with no medical knowledge into this hospital is a serious violation of regulations. Later, after Captain Wang and his men take Chenyang into custody, I will report everything to the senior leadership—your abuse of authority and your malicious intentions!!"
