Chapter 46 - 45: Medicinal Bath
The next morning, Yvonne Lowell was holding a medicinal pouch, about to go across the hall to ask for help carrying some things.
The moment she opened the door, she saw a big lummox standing in the doorway, giving her a big, goofy grin.
Yvonne Lowell looked at him, speechless. "Warren Lynch, why are you just standing here so early in the morning?"
"Good morning, Miss Lowell! I came to get you for breakfast. What are you holding? Let me carry it for you," Warren Lynch said enthusiastically.
"No need. This isn’t heavy. Come with me and get something else."
’This is what’s going to cause him excruciating pain later. If I make him carry it, my conscience will ache a little.’
Yvonne Lowell led him into the inner room and pointed to a large iron pot and a wooden tub. "Take these two over."
They had just been delivered last night and were still covered in plastic wrap.
"This... Miss Lowell, what are these for?" Warren Lynch asked, a little curious.
Yvonne Lowell gave him a playful look. "For stewing you in later."
Warren Lynch: ... ’Stewed Warren in an iron pot?’
"Oh, stop teasing me, Miss Lowell," Warren Lynch said, scratching his head in embarrassment.
"Let’s go." Yvonne Lowell started walking out first, and Warren Lynch hoisted the items and followed her.
...
When she entered the living room across the hall, Yvonne Lowell was met by six bright eyes.
"You all... don’t you have work today?"
"It’s not busy today." Leo Grant stepped forward, wanting to pull her to the dining room. "Come have breakfast first."
It wasn’t that they weren’t busy, but they were all extremely curious about how Yvonne Lowell was going to awaken Warren Lynch’s superpower.
So, last night they’d planned it out, finished their backlog of work, and even completed more than half of today’s tasks in advance.
"Wait a minute." Yvonne Lowell stopped him and tossed the medicinal pouch in her hand to Silas Lynch. "No need to wash it. Just put it directly into that big pot to boil. Once it’s boiling, pour it into the wooden tub."
"Understood, Miss Lowell." Silas Lynch caught the pouch. "How many pots in total?"
Yvonne Lowell jutted her chin toward Warren Lynch. "Enough so that when he sits inside, it covers him up to his neck without overflowing. You figure it out. On the last batch, pour the dregs in as well. Call me when it’s ready."
’It wasn’t that I hadn’t thought about having Warren do it himself, but... Silas just seems more reliable.’
"Yes." After speaking, Silas Lynch pulled Warren Lynch away to get started.
Seeing that she was done giving orders, Leo Grant pulled her toward the dining room.
Nolan Crawford also sidled up with a sneaky grin. "Yvonne, what was that just now?"
"Spices. A special blend for stewing in an iron pot. Delicious and easy on the system," Yvonne Lowell said, shooting him a sideways glance as she let Leo Grant guide her inside.
Nolan Crawford couldn’t help but twitch his lips. ’Is she trying to humor me like a kid??’
Leo Grant was amused and squeezed her fingers firmly.
Yvonne Lowell sat down at the dining table and looked at the breakfast before her. ’Tsk, I have to admit, this breakfast is exactly my style. As expected of my handsome man, he gets me!’
Leo Grant sat across from her, watching her eat with her cheeks puffed out. He thought his Little Marshmallow was absolutely adorable. He simply propped his chin on his hand, watching her eat and occasionally feeding her a bite.
Nolan Crawford: ... ’It’s way too early for all this PDA. I’m choking on it. This is painful.’
After Yvonne Lowell finished eating, she wiped her mouth with a napkin and looked at Leo Grant across from her. "Do you have a boxing room here? Or a large, empty room."
"There’s a boxing room," Leo Grant said.
Yvonne Lowell nodded. "That’ll do."
"What do you need a boxing room for?" Nolan Crawford asked, curious.
Yvonne Lowell shot him a look. "For Warren Lynch to go berserk in later, of course. If we did it outside, not only would we disturb the neighbors, but I’d also have to pay to fix any public property he breaks."
Nolan Crawford: ... ’I never should have asked!’
Warren Lynch: ... ’Alright, then...’
Leo Grant: ...
Silas Lynch: ...
Hearing the doorbell, Yvonne Lowell nudged Nolan Crawford with her foot. "Go get the door."
"Who is it?" Nolan Crawford walked out with a puzzled look on his face, only to see a truck parked at the gate.
A man was standing outside. He said to Nolan, "Hello, I was sent by Mas... by Miss Lowell to deliver something."
"Oh, come on in." Nolan Crawford opened the main gate.
The man hopped into the driver’s seat and drove the truck up to the villa’s entrance.
Several workers began to unload the cargo, taking all the punching bags out of the truck, moving them onto a cart, and also grabbing what looked like a toolbox and a ladder.
Seeing them struggle so much just to lift a few bags, Nolan Crawford was confused. ’Are delivery guys these days such weaklings?’
He opened one of them to take a look. Holy crap, it was made of cement?!
"Don’t tell me all dozen or so of these bags are filled with cement?" Nolan Crawford asked the man in charge.
The man nodded. "Yes, they’re all solid cement pillars. Where should we put them?"
"Follow me." Nolan Crawford stepped aside and led the men into the living room. "Yvonne, where do these cement pillars go?"
When Yvonne Lowell saw them enter, she raised an eyebrow. "Just take them to the boxing room. They know how to hang them."
The lead man nodded respectfully at Yvonne Lowell and followed Nolan Crawford to the boxing room.
"Cement pillars? Are they for Warren Lynch to hit?" Leo Grant asked, confused.
"Yup. To be precise, they’re for him to smash into pieces," Yvonne Lowell said nonchalantly, taking a cigarette from his pocket and lighting it.
Leo Grant’s brows furrowed slightly. "Can he even do that?"
The Power System superpower was one of pure physical attack and defense, mostly used in close-quarters combat.
Therefore, in the eyes of many superpower users, the Power System was somewhat of a letdown compared to other superpowers.
And without his superpower awakened, even with his natural-born strength, it would probably be very difficult for Warren Lynch to do what Yvonne Lowell described.
Yvonne Lowell exhaled a puff of smoke and smiled meaningfully. "That, I don’t know. It’ll depend on him."
Leo Grant ruffled her hair. "You’re starting to speak in riddles even with me?"
"Hey, you have to maintain a little mystery."
Leo Grant waited patiently until the cigarette was half-smoked before snatching it away and putting it in his own mouth.
Yvonne Lowell shot him an annoyed glare. "You dog!"
"Mhm, your dog," Leo Grant replied in a cheerful mood.
Yvonne Lowell pouted, ignored him, and got up to walk toward the boxing room.
Leo Grant took the opportunity to extinguish the cigarette and followed behind her.
The punching bags had been fitted with gears and hung from the ceiling with iron chains, and they could be operated by a remote control.
The man from before walked up to Yvonne Lowell and handed her the remote. "Lowell, it’s all set."
"Alright, you can go back for now." Yvonne Lowell nodded and took the remote.
After the boxing room was ready, Silas Lynch was finished on his end as well.
The wooden tub, filled with the medicinal broth, had been placed in a guest room on the first floor.
Yvonne Lowell looked at Warren Lynch. "Get in and soak for half an hour. The process will be very painful, but I expect you to grit your teeth and endure it."
"I will, Miss Lowell. Please don’t worry."
With that, Warren Lynch sat down in the tub, still in his training clothes.
In less than a minute, he felt a heart-wrenching, gut-tearing pain.
