Chapter 45 - 44: More and More Deeply Hidden
The three of them were stunned. It seemed they had just discovered something incredible!
Seeing Warren Lynch remain silent, Yvonne Lowell thought he was unwilling and said, "It’s fine if you don’t want to. You have the potential, after all. It might get awakened later under special circumstances anyway. It’s just a matter of time."
"I want to, Miss Lowell! I want to!" Warren Lynch snapped out of it and nodded eagerly.
He had always known that aside from his combat skills, his great strength was the reason he had become his master’s trusted confidant.
His master had told him before that he might be a superpower user. But it was only a possibility, so he was told not to dwell on it and just focus on his training.
But of the master’s four confidants, the other three were all superpower users. He was the only one who hadn’t progressed. How could he not be anxious?
Now that Miss Lowell said she had a way to awaken his superpower, of course he was more than willing!
"No matter how painful the process is, I’m willing to try. Miss Lowell, please help me!" Warren Lynch gave Yvonne Lowell a deep bow.
Yvonne Lowell helped him up and patted his shoulder. "Alright, no need for that. It’s not a big deal."
Leo Grant’s lip twitched. ’Not a big deal? He’d been trying for years to find a way to awaken Warren Lynch’s superpower, and she just calls it a small matter?’
"So, Miss Lowell, are we starting now?" Warren Lynch asked, unable to wait.
Yvonne Lowell stretched. "What’s the rush? Let’s do it tomorrow. You get some rest and build up your stamina. I need to prepare a few things."
"Miss Lowell, I’m not tired! I have plenty of stamina! Whatever you need prepared, just let me handle it. I’ll go right now," the big oaf pressed.
Yvonne Lowell shot him a sidelong glance. "Shut up. Keep talking and I’ll have Silas Lynch strike you dead."
Warren Lynch obediently shut his mouth, even raising his hand to make an ’X’ over his lips.
Silas Lynch: ’Huh?? Miss Lowell can tell what my superpower is! And she said I could strike Warren Lynch dead? Is this my lucky day?!!’
His eyes lit up, and he took half a step forward. "Miss Lowell, should I do it now?"
Yvonne Lowell looked at him, amused. "So eager? Looks like you’ve held a grudge against him for a while, huh?"
"Of course not. I’m just following your orders, aren’t I?" Silas Lynch laughed evasively.
"That’s enough. His crime isn’t punishable by death, and besides, your lightning couldn’t kill him anyway."
Silas Lynch: ’...? Okay, okay, so you’re insulting us both at once?! You’re calling me weak, aren’t you? Right? HUH!?’
Yvonne Lowell: ’Uh, was that too harsh? I was actually just going to say you’re too weak...’
Finished, Yvonne Lowell paid them no more mind and pulled Leo Grant toward the house. The others trailed closely behind.
Leo Grant glanced at the small hand tugging on his, a smile creeping onto his lips as he squeezed it back.
Once in the living room, Yvonne Lowell had just sat down when Nolan Crawford couldn’t help but lean in and ask, "Yvonne, so you’re a Spiritual Ability User?!"
"Mhm, yeah." Yvonne Lowell nodded casually. She hadn’t intended to hide it anyway.
Spiritual Ability was one of the top-tier superpowers, capable of control, attack, detection, and more. With sufficient spiritual power, one could even kill without leaving a trace.
Superpower users were already scarce, and Spiritual Ability Users were even more so. They had only ever read about them in files, never having met one in person.
Seeing her answer so readily, Nolan Crawford was taken aback for a moment. "But while Spiritual Abilities can detect things, Warren Lynch hasn’t awakened yet. How did you sense it in him?"
"I just saw it. My spiritual power is decent enough," Yvonne Lowell shrugged, unconcerned.
If Kai Preston heard that, he’d probably just scoff. ’This brat was a little monster whose spiritual power was off the charts, able to easily discern a superpower user’s level, element, and even their unawakened potential.’
The expressions on the three men’s faces were complicated. ’Decent enough? Why is everything "decent enough" with her? When is she ever going to admit something isn’t good...’
Sitting beside her, Leo Grant couldn’t help but smile. ’His Little Marshmallow was being mischievous again.’
"In that case, can you tell what my superpower is?" Nolan Crawford asked excitedly.
Yvonne Lowell shot him a look. "2S-Class Wood Element. I’ve seen it enough times. I’m not blind."
"You’re no fun," Nolan Crawford pouted.
A glint flashed in Leo Grant’s eyes, his expression tinged with disbelief. ’He thought she could only discern a superpower’s element, but he never expected she could see its level as well.’
The others were oblivious and didn’t pay it any mind, but he knew better. Without testing equipment, you couldn’t perceive someone’s level unless you were stronger than them. ’She really has more and more up her sleeve.’
A new thought occurred to Nolan Crawford, and he gave her a sly smile. "By the way, Yvonne, can you tell what superpower Leo has?"
At his words, Silas Lynch and Warren Lynch also looked up at her, their eyes filled with curiosity. After all, before they met Miss Lowell, their master had always been the most powerful person they knew.
"Trying to test me?" Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow.
"Hey, of course not. Just a friendly little exchange, hehe."
Yvonne Lowell turned to look at Leo Grant, only to find the sly dog staring right at her.
She irritably pushed his face away, but he seized the opportunity to catch her hand, nuzzling his face into her palm before enclosing it in his own to play with.
She struggled for a moment, but when she couldn’t break free, she gave up and let him be.
Warren Lynch: ’That’s not how it looked when you caught my fist!’
Nolan Crawford: ’Hey, answer me! Are his fingers fun to play with?! Is his face smooth?! HUH?! I’m asking you a question!!’
Yvonne Lowell turned back to Nolan Crawford. "Sure. How about we start by ’exchanging’ notes on those vines of yours that aren’t even as thick as my arm?"
Nolan Crawford, who had been enjoying the show, suddenly looked like he’d swallowed a bug. "I can freely adjust their size by manipulating the Wood Elements in the air, okay?!"
"Oh. So, can they get as thick as my arm?"
The crucial part was that Yvonne Lowell maintained a perfectly straight, deadpan face, which made it seem like she was genuinely asking. Her expression was far more devastating than her words, and Nolan’s shame peaked in that instant.
"No! No! No! Are you happy now!?" Nolan’s defenses crumbled and he threw in the towel.
Yvonne Lowell patted his shoulder. "It’s okay. If you’re weak, just practice more."
Nolan Crawford: ’...But I’m actually considered pretty strong, you know?!’
