Chapter 83 - 82: Is That How She Comforts People?
Harrison Lowell stared. Was that a Golden Retriever puppy?!!
"Hey, look! Where’d this little mutt come from?!" Harrison Lowell pointed at the little Golden Retriever, gesturing for everyone to look.
Seeing such an adorable little creature, the livestream chat exploded.
[AHHHH FLUFFBALL, FLUFFBALL!!!]
[Chubby baby, chubby baby, hacchima hacchima!!]
[Little baby, let big sis give you a smooch [Drools]!!]
[So cute, I’m dying! Those little stubby legs!]
[Baby, come to mommy’s arms, HNNNGH HNNNGH!!!]
After changing her shoes, Wendy Sutton scooped up the little Golden Retriever and walked into the living room, holding him.
"You little brat! This is the new member of our family. He has a name, it’s ’Goldie.’ Don’t keep calling him a little mutt."
"Mom!"
"Aunt Sutton!"
"Oh, Nola and Nina are back too."
Wendy Sutton placed Goldie on the sofa and hugged Yvonne Lowell and Nina Jennings in turn.
Letting them go, Wendy Sutton’s face was full of concern. "Nola, how is your friend who was in the car accident? Are they doing better?"
Nina Jennings bit her cheek and turned her head away, afraid she would burst out laughing.
Yvonne Lowell’s expression didn’t change. "They’re doing much better. They should be able to leave the hospital in a little while."
"That’s good. You still need to be careful when you drive. You two should be careful on the road from now on, too."
"I know, Mom."
"I know, Aunt Sutton."
...
Harrison Lowell poked the puppy’s stubby legs on the sofa with his finger, a look of disdain on his face. "Mom, where did you pick this thing up?"
"If you’re so capable, why don’t you go pick one up for me to see?" Wendy Sutton shot him a look and gathered Goldie into her arms.
"You know the Forrest Family has that Golden Retriever they’ve had for years, right? This is one of her puppies, just weaned a few days ago. This little guy is adorable. Your Auntie Ford said she wanted to keep one, and I figured since no one in our family is allergic to dog fur, I’d get one too."
Yvonne Lowell took Goldie and turned him over to check. "He’s a boy?"
"Yep. Your Auntie Ford picked a little girl and named her ’Trixie.’ Our two families can be in-laws in the future! I also bought him lots of food and toys. Based on my estimate, they should be delivered soon."
The alarm bells in Harrison Lowell’s head went off instantly. He lifted Goldie with both hands, his eyes narrowed as he scrutinized the puppy.
’Auntie Ford’s intentions aren’t as simple as they seem, are they? What’s the meaning of this? The pig from the Grant Family is about to gobble up our family’s prize cabbage, so they’re compensating us with a ’canine daughter-in-law’??’
’Hmph. I thought he was cute at first, but now the more I look at him, the uglier he gets!!’
’Besides, they’re siblings from the same litter! Is it appropriate for them to be in-laws?! Ugh!!’
The man and the dog stared at each other. Suddenly, Harrison heard the sound of dripping and felt something cold on his thigh.
He looked down. Goldie! He was peeing! On his leg!
"Mom Mom Mom! He peed on my leg!!!"
Goldie stared at him unblinkingly with innocent puppy-dog eyes. "Whimper, whimper."
Harrison Lowell shot to his feet, but he didn’t dare just toss the little thing aside.
Wendy Sutton held back her laughter and took Goldie from him. "That just means he likes you. Go on, hurry up and change your clothes."
Harrison Lowell’s face was ashen as he stomped upstairs.
Only when he was out of sight did everyone erupt in thunderous laughter.
[I’m laughing my ass off! Another colorful Chapter has been added to the story of Brother Harrison’s life.]
[The kid may be small, but you can’t spoil him. Just punish him by making him eat a can of dog food.]
[Goldie was just whimpering, right?! I didn’t mishear that, did I?!]
[Yeah, you heard right! It made my old motherly heart go POUND POUND POUND!!]
[In the future, Brother Harrison’s autobiography can read: "At the age of 22, I was fortunate enough to earn the affection of a Golden Retriever puppy upon our first meeting, and was gifted a warm stream of its pee."]
[@person above, be careful or Brother Harrison might actually hire you to write his autobiography.]
[No problem, as long as the pay is right, hahaha.]
[Sisters, I’ve screen-recorded it. The new sticker pack will be on my Weibo after the stream. ID is the same as my username here.]
[OK, heading over to follow you now!!]
Wendy Sutton wiped Goldie clean. The puppy then started pawing at Yvonne Lowell’s pant leg.
Yvonne Lowell picked him up. He automatically found a comfortable spot on her lap and lay down. Not long after, she heard faint snores.
The whole sequence of actions was so smooth and fluid that Wendy Sutton clicked her tongue in amazement.
"It looks like Goldie really likes Nola. I know Golden Retrievers are naturally affectionate, but I’ve been playing with him for ages and haven’t seen him get this clingy with me."
"Well, what can I say? Your daughter just has a way with small animals," Yvonne Lowell said smugly.
’Oh, yeah, totally,’ Nina Jennings scoffed inwardly. ’Especially the "small animals" that weigh three or four hundred pounds. And she’s got several of those.’
...
When Harrison Lowell came downstairs after changing, he glared at Goldie, his face a mask of displeasure.
Yvonne Lowell found it a little funny. She nudged Goldie’s rear, pushing him toward Harrison Lowell’s hand.
"Your big brother is mad. Go on, hurry up and appease him."
"Who’s his brother? I’m not his brother!" Harrison Lowell’s hackles were raised.
Goldie didn’t understand what they were saying, but he saw a hand in front of him, and it looked quite tasty.
He couldn’t resist giving it a lick. "Whine."
"Hmph. Don’t think I’ll forgive you just because of that." Harrison Lowell glanced at him out of the corner of his eye and even wiggled his fingers.
Goldie quickly pressed it down with his paw. "Whimper, whimper!!"
’You whelp! Don’t even think about moving your grandpa’s chew toy!’
Harrison Lowell picked him up, a smug look on his face. "Oh? So you know how to apologize to me? Fine. This young master will reluctantly forgive you. Don’t you dare pee on me again! Or I’ll give you a beating!"
"Whimper!"
’Whelp! Let go of your grandpa, quick! Or I’ll pee on you again!’
[Why do I get the feeling... Goldie’s whimper sounds like he’s cursing someone out?]
[I think so too. How did he interpret that as an apology?]
[I don’t know. Maybe we’re the ones misunderstanding. After all, we’re not the same species as those two.]
[Sis, you’re so good at throwing shade... Teach me!!]
...
After the livestream ended, Yvonne Lowell sat on the sofa, playing on her phone.
She noticed Charles Lowell’s gaze, which kept drifting to her shoulder, and felt a little helpless.
She suddenly turned to look at him, catching him red-handed before he could look away.
She gave him an almost imperceptible shake of her head, then deliberately shrugged her shoulders a few times in a broad movement.
The weight that had been pressing on Charles Lowell’s chest for the past few days finally lifted. But while he was proud of her, his worry only grew.
Who knew if she would do something like this again someday and get herself hurt.
Yvonne Lowell sighed silently, leaned close to Charles Lowell’s ear, and whispered,
"If it weren’t for you all, I wouldn’t have made that trip. I’m not saying this to make you feel guilty, but to put your mind at ease. After all, I’m a selfish person."
Charles Lowell understood what she meant, but he still poked her forehead in exasperation. ’Is that any way to comfort someone?!’
