Chapter 82 - 81: Returning to the Lowell Family
Harrison Lowell rushed over, throwing his arms around them both.
"Nola, Nina, you’re finally back! I missed you to death!!"
His lunge knocked them back several steps, their necks caught awkwardly under his arms.
Yvonne Lowell quickly patted his arm. "Ahem, Second Brother, if you don’t let go, we’ll have just gotten back only to be sent to our graves by you."
Hearing this, Harrison Lowell immediately let them go and scratched his head awkwardly. "I was just so happy, you know? A day apart feels like five, six, seven, eight years."
He then slung his arms over their shoulders and guided them toward the sofa. "Hehe, come on in. Let’s talk inside."
Yvonne Lowell leaned close to the PD’s camera and winked. "Long time no see, everyone. Did you miss me?"
[AHHHHHH! You vixen, you’re tempting me again!!!!]
[We missed you, we missed you!! We missed you to death!!!!]
[Wifey’s gotten even prettier!! Another day of my heart fluttering for Wifey!!]
[Wifey, do you know? Not being able to see you, I couldn’t eat or sleep, and I gained a whole three pounds!!]
[Are you serious? You get fat from not eating or sleeping??]
[Shut up, stay out of a pretty lady’s business!]
[Tch. A woman full of schemes just to get noticed.]
Charles Lowell, who had just woken up from a nap, was first overjoyed to see his daughter, whom he had worried about for so long, finally home.
But when he saw that mutt of a son of his casually resting his hands on his daughter’s injured shoulder, his brow furrowed instantly. He hurried down the stairs and swatted those two paws away.
"You brat, don’t you have any idea how heavy you are?! Resting your heavy paws on your two sisters’ shoulders like that, why don’t you just get a stretcher to carry you around??"
Harrison Lowell: ...?
’What did I do? I wasn’t even putting my full weight on them! I do this all the time...’
’Have I really been home so long that they’re starting to get sick of me?’
Yvonne Lowell looped her arm through Charles Lowell’s and smiled placatingly. "It’s alright, Dad. If you keep going, I think my brother might actually threaten to run away from home."
"Hmph, you always spoil him."
Though he said that, seeing that her expression was normal, Charles Lowell’s own face clearly softened.
Harrison Lowell nudged Nina Jennings with his shoulder, his tone somewhat resentful. "Nina, it looks like there’s no place for the two of us in this house anymore. How about I take you and we run away from home?"
Nina Jennings took two steps back and flashed a standard, eight-toothed, fake smile. "Brother Harrison, this house just has no place for you. It’s got nothing to do with me, you know."
Uncle Grant, who was standing nearby, silently stepped forward to deliver the final blow. "Second Young Master, shall I have someone pack your bags for you now?"
Harrison Lowell: ...Fine, fine, fine. You really know how to twist the knife, don’t you?
[AHAHAHAHAHAHA I’m dying of laughter...]
[Dad Lowell is so savage, help me. A classic case of ’the daughter is a treasure, the son is a weed.’]
[Pretty Sister: I don’t know you. Don’t @ me, thanks.]
[The butler’s line was the real kill shot, okay?! Old Man Lowell was literally petrified on the spot, hahaha.]
[Brother Harrison: Come look, everyone! Witness my life of being ostracized and isolated.]
[If my comebacks were half as good as theirs, I wouldn’t lose every single argument with my brother.]
...
Yvonne Lowell looked around, but didn’t see Wendy Sutton anywhere. She then asked, "Huh? Where’s Mom?"
Charles Lowell was just about to answer when Harrison Lowell cut in.
"Our mom went shopping with Auntie Ford. They left early this morning."
After speaking, he even made a point of lifting his chin at Charles Lowell.
His face clearly read: ’That’s what you get for being mean to me! I’ll steal all your lines!’
Charles Lowell shot him an annoyed glare. "So you’re the only one with a mouth, is that it?"
"Not at all. It’s mainly that my brain works faster." Harrison Lowell said smugly, crossing his legs.
’My sister’s finally back. I have to act tough for once. Anyway, Dad won’t beat me up in front of her.’
Yvonne Lowell sighed and facepalmed. ’Looks like this kid really had a deprived childhood. But that’s okay, he’ll get his due sooner or later.’
Charles Lowell couldn’t be bothered to argue with him and turned to Nina Jennings. "Nina, did you just get back to Kingsland today?"
"Uncle, I got back a couple of days ago. I’ve been a little busy, so I didn’t come over."
"Since you’re back, stay and have some fun for a few days. Don’t always be busy with work. Your health is important too," Charles Lowell advised.
"I know, Uncle. Everything’s already taken care of."
...
Harrison Lowell’s cocky expression suddenly turned serious as he scrutinized Nina Jennings.
He suddenly stared into her eyes and, forming his hand into the shape of a gun, pointed it at her.
"Speak! ’Busy’ was just an excuse to brush me off, wasn’t it? You knew I was filming a variety show, so you deliberately avoided me, right?"
After getting to know him, Nina Jennings had come to deeply understand his whole deal. She knew this guy was in a constant state of acting up, with intermittent bouts of full-blown madness.
And looking at him now, a bout of madness was about to begin.
So she also formed her hand into a gun shape and aimed it at him, her red lips parting slightly. "Heh, it seems you still don’t have a clear grasp of your own importance. Narcissism is a disease, you know. Don’t be afraid to seek treatment."
"Stop beating around the bush and answer my question directly! Yes, or no?!" Harrison Lowell jabbed his hand forward again.
Nina Jennings swatted his hand away and pointed her own directly at his forehead. "No, I wasn’t!"
Harrison Lowell threw his hands up. "Okay, I believe you! Put the gun down, don’t be rash!"
"Tch, you little punk. Is that all you got?" Nina Jennings pulled her hand back and blew on her fingertips as if blowing smoke from a gun barrel.
"CUT! That’s a wrap!"
Harrison Lowell clapped his hands together like a director’s slate, and the two of them started laughing and joking as they moved on to another topic.
’Help me...’
Yvonne Lowell covered her face with her hands. ’What is wrong with these people? Why are there lunatics in my house?!’
"Dad, are you sure the hospital didn’t switch the babies when Mom had her second child?" Yvonne Lowell asked, leaning in conspiratorially toward Charles Lowell.
Charles Lowell’s expression was also hard to put into words. "I never used to feel that way, but now... it’s hard to say."
[What are they even doing?! What in the world!!]
[Nina, don’t spoil him! You can’t spoil a man!]
[Brother Harrison: How nice, to actually find a fellow patient in this house.]
[I was drinking bubble tea and watching this, and I accidentally spat it into the coffee I was making for my boss. Don’t tell my boss.]
[Damn, an Americano turned into a latte + tea-coffee hybrid? Not bad, I guess??]
[Dad Lowell is already doubting if Brother Harrison is his biological son.]
[Dad, they really did switch them!! I’m your real second son!!!]
Harrison Lowell, who had overheard, chimed in, "Hey, I’m definitely their biological son! Look at my eyes and Nola’s eyes, what a signature feature. You can tell at a glance we’re real siblings. We both take after our mom!"
No one paid him any attention...
Charles Lowell was still muttering to himself, "I wonder if we can still find the hospital’s surveillance footage from 22 years ago."
"We probably can. Let’s give it a try," Yvonne Lowell chimed in.
"I have a friend who’s pretty good with computers. I can contact them if you need," Nina Jennings also offered.
Harrison Lowell was so anxious he was about to jump out of his skin. Just as he was about to argue, he noticed a golden blob-like thing appear in the entryway. And it was moving!
