Chapter 63 - 62: Not Very Harmful, But Extremely Insulting
Yancy Lowell shot him a cool glance. "You’re three years older, but I don’t see you acting all high and mighty, and I certainly don’t see you acting like a proper big brother."
With that, he went to the sink, washed his hands, and started helping with the ingredients.
[The damage wasn’t much, but the insult was devastating.]
[If he’s not the one everyone in the group picks on, then who is?!]
[His movements are so deft. How is this something a pampered young master would know how to do?]
[What would this family do without Third Brother Lowell!!!]
[If not for Third Brother, they still have Nanny Warren. Cooking is a hobby. Do you really think he does this every day?]
[Damn! That hit home...]
With Harrison Lowell and Yvonne Lowell’s combined "help" (which mostly involved cracking jokes and getting in the way), Yancy Lowell quickly finished prepping all the ingredients.
Harrison Lowell clapped his hands. "Alright, it’s about time. Next up, lighting the charcoal!"
...
As the three siblings were heading to the garden, they ran into Adrian Lowell and Martin Crawford, who were coming home from school.
When Adrian Lowell saw Yvonne Lowell, his puppy-dog eyes lit up. "Sister!"
"Hi, Sister Yvonne! Hi, Second Brother Lowell, Third Brother Lowell," Martin Crawford greeted everyone as well.
"Adrian, Martin." Yvonne Lowell smiled at them. "Why are you home from school so early today?"
"It’s Friday, so we got out an hour early," Martin Crawford chimed in first.
Harrison Lowell shot Adrian Lowell a look. "Hey, you little punk. She’s your sister, so does that mean I’m not your brother?"
Adrian Lowell pouted and muttered reluctantly, "Third Brother, Fourth Brother."
Since Adrian Lowell was the youngest, he had always addressed his four older brothers by their birth order.
But because of this, he was especially resentful. With so many older brothers, did he have no dignity?!
He had to call every single one of them "Brother," like a hen clucking after laying a series of eggs.
Meanwhile, everyone just called him "little bro."
Yancy Lowell rolled his eyes at him. "You get antsy if you don’t stir up trouble for even a second, don’t you?"
"Hmph. I bet he learned it from you—no respect for his elders."
[Help, the little brother with the wolf cut looks so soft!!]
[What is this adorable contrast? His face says ’Stay away from me,’ but his eyes instantly lit up when he saw his sister!]
[I’m drooling over the one with the buzz cut.]
[Only kids make choices. I want them all! SLURP SLURP~]
[Oho, are you ladies picking your favorites? In that case, I’ll take one too!]
[Are these two really high schoolers? Has the bar for high school students gotten this high?!]
"You two go on inside. We’re heading to the garden to light the charcoal," Yvonne Lowell said.
"Lighting charcoal? I’m a pro at that! I’ll just drop off my backpack and come help," Martin Crawford volunteered before running inside to put his bag down.
The cameraman tried to interject, "Ahem, that’s not..."
"I know what you’re about to say, but don’t," Harrison Lowell interrupted. "We’re all family here. Besides, we can’t discourage the kid’s enthusiasm."
[Exactly! You can’t discourage the kid’s enthusiasm!]
[Let them do it! It’s not like I get to eat any of it!]
[It’s fine, let them have a go. After this, they’ll probably learn to just wait for the food to be served next time.]
Adrian Lowell tugged on Yvonne Lowell’s sleeve. "Sister, I don’t know how to light charcoal. Is there anything else I can do?"
Yvonne Lowell was about to refuse, but when she saw the longing in his eyes, she swallowed her words.
"In that case, would you like to help me bring out the ingredients in a little while, Adrian?"
"Okay!" Adrian Lowell nodded enthusiastically.
"Alright then. You two go get the ingredients. It’s just pushing a cart, anyway. The three of us will go light the charcoal," Harrison Lowell suggested.
Yvonne Lowell made an ’OK’ sign and went inside with Adrian Lowell.
...
Once everything was set up, the atmosphere was starting to feel just right.
[What do I do? I want to go over and have a bite, too.]
[Watching this is making me hungry. Don’t start eating yet! Wait for me to order some takeout!!]
[Not all the guests have arrived yet, right? I’m gonna order some takeout first too!]
[What are you all eating? Let me know so I can get some ideas.]
"Tsk, look at the time. Why isn’t anyone..." Before Harrison Lowell could finish, he saw a car pulling into the villa’s driveway. "Speak of the devil. Who’s this now?"
Penelope Lynch got out of the car holding a paper bag, followed by her younger brother and sister.
After nodding a greeting to everyone, Penelope Lynch looked at Yvonne Lowell. "Teacher, sorry we’re late. We took a detour to pick up Xiao Yao from school, and the traffic was a bit heavy."
"Don’t worry about it, it’s still early. And besides, you’re the first ones here," Yvonne Lowell said with a smile.
Penelope Lynch handed her the paper bag. "I brought two bottles of red wine. Could you see if it’s the kind you used to like?"
"Just call me by my name. None of this formal ’you’ or ’Teacher’ stuff." Yvonne Lowell took the bag, opened it, and saw a familiar winery logo.
She snapped her head up to look at Penelope Lynch, pleasantly surprised. "How did you know about this wine?"
"I was on a business trip a few days ago and stopped by the university," Penelope Lynch said with a smile. "When I was chatting with Professor El and your name came up, he said you used to love drinking this."
"Thank you. I love it!"
’Back when Yvonne Lowell was wandering around Continent M, she had stumbled upon a small winery. To this day, it still insisted on using ancient fermentation methods. The crucial part was that the red wine it produced was far more fragrant and mellow than any she had ever tasted before.’
’Coupled with the fact that she couldn’t get drunk, she had especially loved to fill a large cup and bring it to class with her when she was a student.’
’Later, when she started teaching students herself, she even kept a few bottles right in her office.’
’She’d even gotten old Professor El hooked on it; he would often come to her office to mooch a drink.’
’The owner of the winery was solely focused on perfecting his craft, so production was low and the prices were on the high side.’
’Perhaps because he wasn’t skilled at business and lacked the marketing strategies of the big wineries, business was rather dismal.’
’At the time, she had given the owner some advice, and business had indeed improved quite a bit afterward.’
’That was why, even now, she still received a shipment of top-quality red wine from the owner every year.’
[Teacher? This beautiful woman is calling our girl ’Teacher’?! Could it be...?]
[You don’t need to "could it be." Only an idiot wouldn’t see it.]
[Family, why is she calling our girl ’Teacher’?]
[Alright, I take back what I just said.]
[LMAOOOOO I’m dying, help...]
Harrison Lowell took the red wine and glanced at it. "Made in Continent M? I’ve never heard of this winery..."
"Yeah, the winery is relatively small. But it tastes amazing. You’ll see once you try it," Yvonne Lowell replied.
"Maybe not. We have so much wine in the cabinet, and this is a gift for you from Penelope," Harrison Lowell said, hesitating.
Penelope Lynch smiled. "It’s a gift for Yvonne, so naturally, Yvonne gets to decide."
"Let’s open it. Everyone can have a taste. Just think of it as free advertising for the winery."
Harrison Lowell nudged Adrian Lowell with his foot. "You hear that? Go get a decanter and some wine glasses, quickly."
Adrian Lowell looked indignant, but he couldn’t refuse. He had no choice but to grab Martin Crawford and leave.
...
Sensing a scorching, intense gaze, Yvonne Lowell suddenly turned her head to look.
