The residual-shielded recovery space held a steady low hum, the kind that settled into bone after enough cycles. Soren sat with his back against the wall, legs stretched out, residual lag still working through the muscles of his arms and the base of his skull.
Extended recovery was mandatory. The second current was supposed to stay quiet while the body caught up.
It did not.

Soren’s voice stayed flat, careful. "Describe it."
"A corridor. Residual-exposure medical traffic. Buffer elevation already spent. Then a low-amplitude coupling that the residual-class coverage never saw because we were both under residual-medical constraint.
Three residual-exposure bodies took permanent threshold reductions. One of them was Ellis."
Silence settled. The recovery space did not change temperature or light. Only the resonance carried the weight of what she had said.

"I saw the same corridor," he said. "Different angle. I was the one who wasn’t there."
