Chapter 1253 - 637: The Truth of It All (Part 2)
The black-clad man opened his right hand, revealing a small orb in his palm, about the size of a ball, but radiating golden light, making it difficult to look directly at, more dazzling than the noonday sun. Qiu Niang couldn’t help but take two steps back, feeling an inexplicable fear towards the golden orb. Fortunately, the golden orb only lingered for a moment before flying straight up into the sky, soon vanishing into the large mass of dark clouds above the Wu Family’s granary.
The entire cloud instantly turned a color like gold inlaid with jade, resembling the layers of rosy clouds at sunrise, appearing even more magnificent against the dim, gloomy sky. Soon, lightning and thunder roared across the sky. After just a few breaths, a torrential downpour descended from Heaven.
It was early spring, and the water quickly turned to ice, typically unable to rain, and if anything fell, it should have been ice hail or snowflakes. Qiu Niang stared in shock at the tiny raindrops falling from the sky; in the dark sky, she could still see that the raindrops were mixed with fine golden threads, almost imperceptible, disappearing without a trace once they hit the ground.
If an outsider were here, they would surely be astonished by this magnificent spectacle of golden rain falling from the sky.
Standing within the light screen, she was not drenched by the rain, so she didn’t realize that the rainwater was actually warm, infusing warmth throughout. However, those many evil ghosts rushing towards them outside the light screen naturally got soaked, and the next moment they began to scream, as the areas hit by the rain emitted wisps of white steam, rapidly dissolving and dissipating, as if being splashed with hydrochloric acid instead of golden rain.
Within just a few breaths, dozens of evil ghosts had been felled by the golden rain, their bodies turning to nothing. After they vanished, a faint wisp of black smoke would remain in their place, quickly burrowing underground, unseen.
Qiu Niang watched with wide eyes, dazedly asking, "This, what is this?"
"This is the power of purification." The White Robed Girl sighed lightly and said, "These evil ghosts see only hatred, their minds lost, unable to be pulled back even by nine horses, they can only be purified by Divine Power to prevent future troubles."
Some of the more cunning evil ghosts, seeing the unfavorable situation, glanced at Qiu Niang resentfully a few times, then turned to flee into the Wu Family’s granary, hoping to use the ruined house to shield themselves from what seemed like gentle, but was in fact lethal rainwater. However, the water on the ground also had purification power, and they only managed a few steps before collapsing to the ground as if they were white wax encountering a raging fire, then gradually softening, and eventually being purified bit by bit by the rain, until they were no longer visible.
Though it was called purification, it was in fact extermination. When the last evil ghost disappeared, the golden rain from the sky ceased with its last drop. The rain stopped, and the clouds dispersed.
The wasteland before them was still a wasteland, leaving nothing behind. The evil ghosts that had just roared and shook the heavens had all disappeared into nothingness. If not for the water on the ground quickly freezing into a thin layer of ice, Qiu Niang would have truly thought she had just experienced a nightmare.
The White Robed Girl turned to her: "Do you and your husband have any tokens? Otherwise, it would be difficult to find him."
"The exchanged tokens are all pressed at the bottom of our boxes, I didn’t bring them." Qiu Niang bit her lip and thought for a moment before shyly saying, "After marriage, I made a Unity Rope for both myself and my husband, and we wear it on our wrists." She rolled up her sleeve, revealing a fair wrist with a thin red rope tied around it, the rope head woven into two Ruyi knots, entwined like silk, quite beautiful.
The White Robed Girl smiled, recognizing the familiar knotting technique of the red rope. Since that was the case, finding Qiu Niang’s husband suddenly seemed much easier.
She took out a small Jade Boat from her bosom, no larger than a palm, and tossed it out; before it even touched the ground, it transformed into a Flying Boat capable of carrying four or five people, hovering evenly two feet above the ground.
"Get on."
The boat lifted off the ground, moving both fast and steady. At this moment, how could Qiu Niang not realize that she had encountered a being akin to immortals? She cautiously moved to sit quietly below the White Robed Girl, yet her eyes kept sneaking peeks outside the boat. Experiencing such a view of the vast earth from above was something she, a mere mortal, had never experienced; watching it continually, she couldn’t help but be entranced.
With the Jade Boat carrying them, the speed of this journey was countless times faster than the ox-cart she had previously ridden. She hesitated for a long time before finally saying, "May I know the esteemed surnames of my two benefactors? After this little woman is rescued, I will surely set up a Longevity Tablet for you both..."
"My surname is Ning." The White Robed Girl smiled, her almond-shaped eyes slightly squinting, shooting a glance at the man beside her, "This is my..." Her words suddenly halted, unsure how to introduce him: Daoist couple? Husband? Clearly not yet wed.
