"I am her husband." Changtian glanced at her, suddenly speaking to Qiu Niang, "Where did you and your husband originally live?"

Upon hearing this, Qiu Niang opened her mouth, but no words came out. At this moment, she realized that she couldn’t remember the location of her husband’s home!

Even now, she could recall all the sweet details and gestures shared with her husband after marriage, but she simply couldn’t remember which county she got married into or what her parents-in-law looked like!

What is going on?!

Ning Xiaoxian looked at her pale face and said to Changtian, "That’s a great question, she doesn’t even remember this."

He gave a light hum, "Only you, with such misguided kindness."

"Luckily, we did some homework before setting out." When she smiled with pride, there was a childlike innocence in it, her gaze sweeping over the ground, as the Jade Boat descended slowly.

Before them was a small county town peacefully sleeping in the dark.

The streets were already deserted, the night deep, with only a few houses still lit. Qiu Niang followed them down, discovering that this was a completely unfamiliar place, prompting her to look around: "Where is this?"

Ning Xiaoxian said slowly, "This is Tu Xin. It’s sixty-seven miles southeast of the Wu Family’s granary and only ten miles from Songjiang City. Hmm, the person you’re looking for is here."

"My husband is here?" Qiu Niang was first overjoyed, then strangely asked, "How could he be in a place we’ve never been to? Young lady, how do you know this?"

"Your husband, does he make rice cakes?"

Qiu Niang happily nodded repeatedly, her eyes shining.

"This matter isn’t difficult to trace back to its cause." Ning Xiaoxian sighed, taking Changtian’s hand, and walked on at a leisurely pace.

Her pace was unhurried but swift, and Qiu Niang had to jog to barely keep up.

This running took them across half the county, the road becoming more remote as they went.

When the two in front finally stopped, a panting Qiu Niang found herself brought to a civilian’s residence.

The house was small and inconspicuous, no more than three rooms, with a roof covered in dried, woven reeds that rustled in the cold wind, pinned down by weight to prevent them from flying away. A small yard was fenced off.

This family’s life must be very modest, but even now, two small red lanterns hung under the eaves, swaying gently in the wind, providing a tiny bit of warmth.

After all, it was New Year’s.

Qiu Niang’s eyes were fixed on the red lanterns. A poor family like this wouldn’t have money to buy lanterns; they were usually handmade by family members. However, these lanterns were unlike any other family’s, neither round nor square, but pentagonal.

"My husband really lives here." She murmured, seemingly overwhelmed with joy, "The shape of these lanterns... I once helped him make lanterns, and the ones I made had an extra corner compared to others, and he laughed at me for it." Her feet moved forward uncontrollably.

However, Ning Xiaoxian extended her arm to stop her, shaking her head at her, then flicked her fingers, sending a small stone from her palm to hit the base of the family’s window with a bang.

In the stillness of the night, the sound was particularly loud. The big yellow dog in the yard immediately rushed out, barking loudly twice.

The people living inside awoke immediately, and soon a light came on inside the house. A young man, carrying an oil lamp and wearing a cotton jacket, sleepily came out.

Qiu Niang recognized him at once.

"My husband!" She burst into tears, unable to hold back, and sprinted forward, wanting to throw herself into his arms and cry her heart out.

Why was he unharmed despite overturning the carriage with her, and able to appear in a county sixty miles away? At this moment, she had no time to think.

However, her steps stopped halfway when suddenly a loud baby’s cry came from inside the house.

There was a child in this house?

Then she looked back at her husband, whose gaze had clearly passed over her without pausing, as if he didn’t see her. She halted in confusion, not knowing what was happening.

At this point, a young and sleepy female voice came from inside the house: "Aming, what’s going on outside?"

Aming looked around once more to confirm, then soothed the yellow dog in the yard. "Nothing, nothing at all. You can sleep easy."

Strangely, there wasn’t a soul in sight here, so why was the dog barking so frantically?

The thought of the word ’ghost’ made him shiver involuntarily, the chill penetrating to his core, as if no amount of layered clothing could dispel it.
