Chapter 1847 - 1852: Faint Presence
"The City Lord must have already known our identities, right?" Lin Fei asked.
Upon hearing Lin Fei’s words, City Lord Qiu Qian smiled slightly, "Your identities? Do you have any other identities?"
"Of course, the City Lord doesn’t really believe our words, does he?" Lin Fei didn’t think so; Qiu Qian’s demeanor clearly showed he wanted them to admit it without a fight!
"That’s right, just as you said, I am a person who is very perceptive, and naturally wouldn’t doubt the words you’ve spoken," Qiu Qian replied with a smile.
Lin Fei really wanted to ’spit’ at him in his heart, who was he trying to fool? Pretending to agree on the surface when he clearly thinks otherwise inside, such a hypocritical person is no good.
"Alright then, since the City Lord doesn’t say, I’ll have to explain myself." Lin Fei began, accepting that in the end, he’d be exposed or it would be made public, so he chose to speak up instead of facing the same outcome if exposed later.
Therefore, for Lin Fei, there’s no difference; he stated, "City Lord, I’m not going to deny that we were sent by Fang Ba, and those two pills presented to you were merely a form of slow-acting poison."
"Outrageous!"
Suddenly, Qiu Qian was infuriated, slamming his hand onto the chair he was seated on, shattering it instantly. He stood up, pointing at Lin Fei.
At the same time, soldiers around them filled in swiftly, surrounding Lin Fei and his companion in no time, their spears glinting coldly under the flickering light above.
"You’re sent by that guy Fang Ba, deserving a thousand deaths!" Qiu Qian stated angrily.
"Is that all, City Lord? Is that really all you want to say?" Lin Fei asked.
"Hmph!"
Qiu Qian snorted coldly, then waved his sleeve, sat down on a prepared chair, and looked at Lin Fei, saying, "Go on, what’s your purpose being sent by Fang Ba?"
"Does it need to be said? Of course, it’s to kill you! Fang Ba wouldn’t feel at ease till you’re dead," Lin Fei replied with a rather relaxed smile.
Upon hearing Lin Fei’s words, Qiu Qian was not enraged, instead, he calmly said, "Kill me? He sent you to kill me? But now you’ve been exposed, what will you do?"
"What else can we do? Mission failed, of course," Lin Fei laughed, showing no signs of fear, his demeanor seemingly indifferent as though it wasn’t a matter of importance.
Qiu Qian looked at Lin Fei with curiosity, asking, "Aren’t you afraid? Afraid I’ll kill you before giving you a chance to speak!"
Lin Fei shook his head, "You won’t do that. Fang Ba said you are inherently suspicious, and it turns out the saying is true, knowing oneself well is often the enemy. He understands you well but underestimated your level of suspicion, which is indeed formidable, so you won’t kill me."
"Heh, well said, continue," Qiu Qian chuckled, interested to hear more from Lin Fei.
Lin Fei said, "Your suspicious nature is strong, but undeniably you’re a good City Lord."
Qiu Qian smiled, "Flattery won’t save your lives, so tell me something intriguing instead."
Hearing Qiu Qian’s words, Lin Fei smiled, "Of course, what I’m saying should be interesting to you, City Lord Qiu Qian, only you’re too anxious now."
Qiu Qian nodded, said nothing, watching Lin Fei closely, curious about his intentions yet certainly not trusting him.
Trusting one’s enemy is like expecting not to be killed by him in the next second, a foolish act, and in Qiu Qian’s mind, Lin Fei is now an enemy.
"City Lord, since we’ve disclosed the truth, it means we’ve abandoned the darkness for the light and wish to collaborate with you," Lin Fei declared, outlining his plan.
"Collaborate? Then tell me, how can you prove this isn’t a trick?" Qiu Qian questioned, suspecting Lin Fei might be plotting.
Lin Fei smiled.
"Indeed, City Lord Qiu Qian’s thinking is sharp, but it also proves Fang Ba’s point about your profound suspicion," Lin Fei admitted, acknowledging that such distrusting individuals often survive the longest.
"Since you demand evidence, let me provide it," Lin Fei stated.
"I’m all ears," Qiu Qian replied, interested to hear what rationale Lin Fei could possibly have.
Lin Fei’s lips curled up slightly, saying, "The evidence is right beside you, City Lord."
Upon hearing this, the City Lord looked around in puzzlement, "The evidence is beside me? Where? I don’t see it? Do you understand the consequences of deceiving me?"
"Of course," Lin Fei replied, smiling.
"Yet you dare deceive me?" Qiu Qian’s face slowly cooled, regarding Lin Fei, suspecting deceit, as there’s surely no evidence around him!
"Indeed, it’s just beside you." Lin Fei smiled and responded.
"Outrageous! Seize him!" Qiu Qian completely lost his temper, unable to tolerate being toyed with!
However, at that moment, a voice arose, "Is my presence so insignificant that you didn’t notice me again, an outrage!"
Little Black’s voice resounded, a Black Dragon appearing swiftly from behind Qiu Qian, wrapping around him, gripping his arms, "What’s wrong? Want to move? Don’t blame me for biting your head off if you try!"
Hearing Little Black’s threat, Qiu Qian dared not move, immediately ordering, "Everyone, halt! Leave this place at once! Now!"
The guards obediently left the area, running outside, meanwhile casting glances back at Lin Fei, Jiang Ming, and the Black Dragon entwined around the City Lord.
"Who are you people? Just who are you!" Qiu Qian demanded, realizing Lin Fei couldn’t be ordinary with the Dragon Clan appearing; how could they be ordinary?
Upon hearing the City Lord’s inquiry, Lin Fei chuckled, "Me? Didn’t I just say? I’m just an undercover agent, an informant as you call it."
