Chapter 1846 - 1851: Murder and Manslaughter
The people following behind Lin Fei at this moment all had looks of shock on their faces.
They hadn’t expected Lin Fei to get into the City Lord Mansion so easily? And he was even led in all the way. This guy just doesn’t play by the rules; it was completely beyond their expectations.
"Sir, you’re really something!" a soldier said.
Lin Fei smiled. "Before you do anything, you’ve got to use your brain a bit, got it?" After Lin Fei finished, the two soldiers hurriedly nodded, looking like they’d just been enlightened.
Soon, soldiers from the City Lord Mansion came with a message, asking Lin Fei to come over. Lin Fei accepted the invitation and then led a few people to the main hall of the City Lord.
Lin Fei looked at the man sitting up above in the City Lord Mansion; that should be City Lord Qiu Qian. Fang Ba had said Qiu Qian was a very cautious man. Lin Fei wondered what exactly the other party was suspicious of.
"You two, where are you from? Why have you come to see me?" Qiu Qian asked. His eyes swept over Lin Fei and the others, finding their identities highly suspicious.
Lin Fei smiled and said, "To report to City Lord, I am a merchant from the Azure Dragon Empire. I now have something to present to the City Lord, and hope I can gain some minor official post here."
At that, the two soldiers behind him thought Lin Fei had defected. He actually claimed to be from the Azure Dragon Empire; he’d basically eaten a leopard’s gall and was throwing himself right onto the muzzle of a gun.
But they didn’t know what Lin Fei had in mind, so they didn’t act rashly. Maybe Lin Fei had some other plan, so they held back.
City Lord Qiu Qian looked at Lin Fei and saw that Lin Fei’s expression didn’t look fake. He said, "Don’t you know our Ancient Ao Empire and the Azure Dragon Empire are enemies? You, a man of the Azure Dragon Empire, come here and even want some official post? Isn’t that a bit too delusional?"
"Hehe, Lord City Lord, I feel you must be someone who sees clearly into everything, different from those bastard officials of the Azure Dragon Empire. That’s why I came to pledge myself to you, Lord City Lord. I hope you can grant my wish." Lin Fei laid on a bit of flattery. At a time like this, he had no choice but to talk nice.
However, Lin Fei wasn’t very good at sweet talk, so this was about the best he could do.
"Hahaha, now that’s what I like to hear—’bastard officials.’ That’s right, the people of the Azure Dragon Empire are all bastard officials! Since you put it that way, then stay for now. Present your treasure and let me have a look." Qiu Qian said.
"Yes!" Lin Fei handed the wooden box in his hand to the guard. The guard first took a look, and as soon as he opened the box, a wave of fragrant scent rushed out. It was definitely something good.
The guard, seeing nothing wrong with it, handed it to the City Lord. City Lord Qiu Qian took it in his hand, looked at it over and over, sniffed it again and again, then said, "Not bad, not bad. Since you’re so sincere, Gujiang City welcomes you. I hope you’ll abide by Gujiang City’s rules. As for the position, you can stay in the City Lord Mansion for now. Tomorrow I’ll arrange something for you."
"Yes!" Lin Fei replied, then left.
In the blink of an eye, Lin Fei and the others arrived in the room assigned to them. Inside the room, the soldier who’d been assigned to them spoke up angrily, "Lin Fei, aren’t you going too far! You actually called the General and them all bastards? I’m going to report this to the General!"
Lin Fei laughed.
Looking at the two men in front of him, he remembered how when he said that line earlier, their faces had clearly shown anger. Two real idiots—Qiu Qian was probably already suspicious of them, otherwise he wouldn’t have made them wait like that.
"Why are you two getting so worked up? It’s all fake anyway, right? Alright, don’t be mad. We’ll eat and drink well now, and tomorrow the mission will be done and you’ll be war heroes. Are you really planning to keep those long faces till then?" Lin Fei asked.
Hearing Lin Fei’s words, the two nodded. What he said made sense; they’d taken it too seriously. Very soon Lin Fei had people from the City Lord Mansion bring good wine and dishes, and they all started eating.
Before long, the two soldiers were drunk. They hadn’t intended to get drunk, but seeing Lin Fei and Jiang Ming both drinking themselves silly, in the end the two of them unconsciously fell into Lin Fei’s trap, and all four of them ended up slumped over the table asleep.
But after they "fell asleep," Lin Fei and Jiang Ming slowly lifted their heads, then smiled, directly killed the two men, and searched their bodies. They didn’t find anything special, but they did come across a petal.
Was the petal useful? Lin Fei was puzzled.
"Little Black, take a look—what is this thing?" Lin Fei placed the petal in front of Little Black. This petal was unlike an ordinary petal. It was unbelievably hard, like porcelain, extremely tough, but Lin Fei knew it definitely wasn’t porcelain. It should be some type of plant; touching it didn’t feel like porcelain.
"If I’m not mistaken, this should be the main stuff that triggers the toxin. Whatever you do, don’t break it. It’ll release a unique smell. If the poison in your body hasn’t been neutralized yet, you absolutely cannot inhale that smell." Little Black said.
"So that’s how it is. I didn’t expect this thing to be the key." Lin Fei said. The world really was full of strange things.
"Hehe, there’s a lot you haven’t seen yet. Don’t keep this thing on you; just throw it away somewhere. Whatever you do, don’t break it." Little Black repeatedly warned.
Lin Fei nodded. "Relax, how could I possibly break this little thing?" As he spoke, he reached out and pinched it. However...
Crack...
With a soft snap, Lin Fei, Little Black, and Jiang Ming all felt their hearts leap into their throats, then saw that Lin Fei had actually crushed the petal just like that?
"Fuck, why is it so brittle!" Lin Fei exclaimed.
"Hurry up and get out of here, you idiot!" Little Black immediately urged. At that moment, Jiang Ming and Lin Fei were already bolting for the door. They absolutely couldn’t stay—if they did, they might not even know how they died.
In the end, Lin Fei and Jiang Ming rushed out of the room and shut the door behind them. Seeing two startled guards, he said, "We need to see the City Lord. Go report at once—I suddenly remembered something important!"
Hearing this, the two guards immediately grew tense and led Lin Fei and Jiang Ming toward the City Lord’s palace.
In no time, Lin Fei and the others arrived at the palace. The City Lord clearly hadn’t gone to sleep yet. He looked at Lin Fei below and asked, "You two, what business do you have with this City Lord?"
Lin Fei saw the cold light in Qiu Qian’s eyes; sure enough, just as he’d suspected, the City Lord had long since realized the two of them weren’t ordinary. Otherwise he wouldn’t be looking at them like that. It seemed there was no need to keep pretending—Lin Fei wasn’t planning to keep up the act anymore.
