Chapter 1845 - 1850: Entering Gujiang Again
"Deposit?" Fang Ba was taken aback for a moment and said, "Haven’t I already given you the deposit?"
"Given to me? General, don’t joke around. Are you referring to the elixir pills I just got? How are those supposed to be a deposit?" Lin Fei asked, utterly bewildered by Fang Ba’s intentions.
"Hahahaha! Brother, you’re overthinking it. What I gave you was the wine we just drank, and that’s the deposit," Fang Ba replied with a joyful laugh.
Lin Fei’s expression immediately darkened, and he asked, "General, do you not feel this is inappropriate?"
"Inappropriate? I’m just being cautious. If you betray me, the poison will act up, and by then, you might die first. So, you better follow my orders closely or don’t blame me for being merciless," the General said.
Upon hearing the General’s words, Lin Fei’s brow furrowed, and he quickly asked Little Black inside him. Little Black, unaware of a solution, replied, "General, what kind of poison have you given me?"
"Relax, I won’t poison you. What you’ve consumed is like elixir pills. As long as you behave, I’ll give you the antidote. Don’t worry," Fang Ba reassured Lin Fei.
Lin Fei smiled and nodded, "In that case, I’ll follow the General’s orders completely."
Although he said this, Lin Fei inwardly sneered. If things continue like this, only death awaits him. Even if he doesn’t die, he would become a tool in the opponent’s hands, continuously threatened by this means. Lin Fei resolved to find a way to rid himself of this General.
"If you want to kill him, you’ll need to get the antidote first. Otherwise, he will trigger the poison immediately, and things will turn ugly," Little Black advised.
Lin Fei nodded, understanding the reasoning, so he didn’t make a move but waited for an opportunity.
"Alright, after a hearty meal, rest well here first. I’m leaving. Tomorrow, we start executing the plan. Hope you both have rested well and do your tasks well; there will be rewards," Fang Ba said as he left the tent.
At this time, Jiang Ming’s brow was tightly knitted, "Master, how about I find a way to kill him?"
Lin Fei shook his head, "Don’t kill him now. Little Black, check what effects these elixir pills have, whether they are as he claims."
Little Black nodded and then hovered over the two pills, spiraling, before finally nodding, "He’s not wrong, but there’s good news for you."
Lin Fei was taken aback, then smiled, "What good news?" If Little Black said so, surely it’s significant, or else he wouldn’t say it.
"It is indeed a potent poison, but it turns into poison only when combined with other means. As of now, it’s the greatest supplement, not poison, hahaha!" Little Black explained.
Lin Fei rolled his eyes and said, "Why spout nonsense? Since it’s meant for the City Lord, of course, it’s irresistible if it’s truly poison, or the opponent wouldn’t be that foolish."
"You are correct, but he didn’t account for it. If the opponent escapes and absorbs all the power of this elixir pill, it would lose its effect," Little Black said.
"Really? You wouldn’t be lying to me, would you?" Lin Fei was surprised. If so, he could leave then, refine the pill, and ultimately, benefit from it.
"Of course, I’m not lying. When have I deceived you?" Little Black retorted, "But before that, consider carefully how to proceed. Do you truly want to kill this guy?"
Lin Fei nodded, "Certainly, this man is so despicable, he outright disregards me, wants me as a scapegoat. If I die, so be it, but if I don’t, he would keep torturing me and make me his underling. Do you think I’d become his subordinate?"
"You? Forget it; given your stubborn nature, if you were someone’s underling, you’d certainly conflict with those above, causing you more trouble," Little Black analyzed.
Understanding Lin Fei’s character, Lin Fei is like an untamed bird—unless there’s sufficient benefit or other ties, there’s no way to restrain him.
With the decision made, all that remained was execution.
Lin Fei and Jiang Ming closed their eyes, starting to cultivate diligently. They couldn’t slacken because no one knew what would happen next, so they spared no effort to boost their cultivation.
The next day.
The plan finally began, with Lin Fei and Jiang Ming disguised as merchants, then carrying a box to Gujiang City.
At this point, the Great General didn’t accompany them, but instead sent two attendants with Lin Fei and Jiang Ming, presumably certain they had some things to trigger the poison, or how could he be at ease?
Arriving at Gujiang City’s gates, the guards had been replaced—not by Lin Fei’s killing, but by another city defense army. These were relatively decent; at least they weren’t extorting money like those before.
Standing at the gate, Lin Fei was inspected, then asked, "Officer, where is the City Lord Mansion?"
"Why are you seeking the City Lord Mansion?" the officer asked.
At this time, the two soldiers following Lin Fei were panic-stricken, thinking, this is not how the script goes, what’s Lin Fei planning?
Lin Fei smiled, "We have something to offer the City Lord, seeking a minor official position. Can you tell us where the City Lord Mansion is?"
"The City Lord Mansion is the tallest building; if you wish to go there, I can assign someone to accompany you," the officer replied.
Lin Fei hadn’t asked ordinary people, preferring to ask the military—a sign he trusted Lin Fei, surely no one would knowingly get caught.
At least in the officer’s mind, Lin Fei wouldn’t be foolish enough to want to assassinate the City Lord yet still inquire whereabouts of the City Lord.
However, Lin Fei leveraged this mindset, being directly escorted to the City Lord Mansion, saving explanations and getting led straight there.
