Chapter 473 - 420: Adoption? (Part 2)
"Junior Brother, yesterday you weren’t..." Sun Youwei looked up in confusion. Yesterday afternoon, Lin Miao went out alone; he should have gone to meet Jinghui and Dingxian. When he returned, he did not mention this matter, and now Jinghui has appeared again.
"Senior Sister, you don’t need to worry about this. I’ll handle it," Lin Miao said in a deep voice. After speaking, he instructed, "Please invite them to the living room to wait; I’ll be there shortly."
Jinghui came holding a child again.
When seeing Jinghui again, her face was extremely haggard, clearly indicating she had no idea how she endured the past night.
Upon seeing Lin Miao, Jinghui suddenly bent both knees and knelt before Lin Miao with a "thud." This startled Lin Miao, and he hurriedly stepped forward to lift her up, "Master Jinghui, if you have something to say, please say it. There’s no need to kneel; I can’t afford this."
"Mr. Lin, I have an unreasonable request, and I hope you can agree," Jinghui said.
Lin Miao was silent. Since it’s an unreasonable request, expecting me to agree is literally asking too much. Considering her circumstances and the fact that she is still in the dark about some things, Lin Miao nodded, "Tell me what you have in mind."
"Please help me take care of this child for a while," Jinghui said, gritting her teeth and glancing at the sleeping baby in her arms.
"What, you want me to take care of this child?"
Lin Miao was truly startled. It wasn’t that he was afraid of taking care of a child, but the meaning in Jinghui’s words clearly implied she wanted him to adopt the child.
The so-called "care" was actually a form of entrustment.
"Yes, I know this request is rather inhumane for you, but I really have no other options. Right now, the only people I can trust to help me are you," Jinghui explained.
Lin Miao understood Jinghui. If it weren’t for the child, she would have stayed with Dingxian and Jingxin. After returning, she likely thought this through overnight before making this decision.
She planned to find someone to adopt the child and then seek out Dingxian and Jingxin. If the two of them were already unfortunate, she would need to avenge them and her sisters.
With the child, she could never focus completely on her mission.
In all of Dongshan, the only people she could trust were Lin Miao and Sun Youwei. Should the opportunity arise in the future, she might reunite with her son.
If she were to lose her life seeking vengeance, at least her son would still be alive.
"Has something happened to Master Dingxian?"
Jinghui shuddered at these words.
"My senior sister and I went to the inn to find you yesterday and saw that you had already checked out and left. We assumed you had an urgent matter, is that right?"
"Yes, we had an urgent matter and had to leave..." Jinghui’s eyes showed a trace of pain. They were going to rescue imprisoned sisters and ended up almost getting trapped themselves. Even their master was severely injured again, leaving only Jingxin with her, while Jinghui escaped alone back to Dongshan City.
Remembering this, she couldn’t help but clench her fists, her nails deeply embedding into the flesh of her palms without feeling pain.
"What happened? I do have some connections in Dongshan City, maybe I could help you?" Lin Miao asked.
Jinghui’s identity was unusual, and he didn’t want to reveal his identity in front of her. As long as Dingxian didn’t say anything, Jinghui wouldn’t recognize him.
"Mr. Lin, thank you for your kindness, but my matter has nothing to do with you and you can’t help," Jinghui gritted her teeth, her eyes reddening.
"If you don’t tell me, how would you know I can’t help?"
"Master," Mr. Xie entered from outside and bowed slightly.
"What’s the matter?"
"The monk Guangmiao from Shanglin Temple requests an audience."
"Guangmiao?" Upon hearing this name, Jinghui couldn’t help but express surprise.
"What, Mrs Hui, you know Guangmiao?" Lin Miao already knew that after Jinghui returned to the city yesterday, she immediately went to Shanglin Temple, seeking to meet the monk Fahai, and it was Guangmiao who received her. Later, Guangmiao turned her away and then came to the Lin residence.
But he wasn’t there.
Clearly, Dingxian knew Fahai. They were both people of the Buddhist sect, and they were all in the Dongshan area, so it wasn’t surprising if they knew each other.
Dingxian likely sent Jinghui and Jingxin to seek Fahai, hoping he would help her rescue them. Indeed, within Dongshan territory, Fahai, being of the Tiānyuán level, would have significant influence.
If he intervened, rescuing the nuns from Heaven-Reaching Temple detained in the estate outside Lingyang Marquis City would be a simple task.
With Fahai’s absence and Jinghui’s urgency, it made sense for Guangmiao to come to see him.
"Yes, I know him." Jinghui nodded.
"Then it will be easier to handle," Lin Miao nodded. "Shouchang, please bring him in."
"Yes."
A moment later, Guangmiao, clad in a gray monk’s robe, strode in. This fellow surely benefited from studying under Fahai.
All his cultivation had surprisingly reached the Great Perfection of Blood Melting Realm, and despite being under thirty, his future achievements seemed limitless.
No wonder Fahai took him as a protégé; if someone better doesn’t come along, Guangmiao should inherit Fahai’s teachings.
"Greetings to Mr. Lin, Senior Sister Jinghui, you’re here too?" Upon seeing Lin Miao, Guangmiao bowed his head and joined his palms in respect.
Jinghui’s eyes widened for Guangmiao addressed Lin Miao as "Uncle Master." This generational logic caught her off guard.
Fahai and Dingxian should be of the same generation as monks, and Lin Miao, interacting with Fahai as brothers, naturally made Guangmiao address him as "Uncle Master." This was perfectly normal.
Guangmiao and Jinghui were of the same generation.
So if that’s how it’s counted, Jinghui suddenly became his niece; it inexplicably elevated her a generation.
"Speak, you came once yesterday. What is it?" Lin Miao naturally asked. With his relationship with Fahai, Guangmiao knew much, so there was no need for such reservations.
Guangmiao glanced at Jinghui, somewhat hesitant to speak.
"Guangmiao, why are you hesitating? Speak up!"
"Senior Sister Jinghui came to Shanglin looking for my master yesterday. My master wasn’t there; Senior Sister wanted to leave the child at Shanglin Temple for a while. While our temple has taken in children, neither my master nor I can take care of them..."
Lin Miao understood that Jinghui initially intended to leave the child at Shanglin Temple. The temple had no issue taking in orphans, and Fahai was whom Dingxian guided her to. It should have been trustworthy, but Fahai wasn’t there, and Guangmiao couldn’t take care of a child.
"I sought the abbot, but the abbot refused, so I came to seek your guidance, Uncle Master."
"Why did the abbot refuse?"
"The abbot says this child doesn’t belong to Buddhism, and keeping him would invite calamity," Guangmiao explained.
"Monks are supposed to be compassionate. Why is the abbot being so heartless?" Lin Miao was puzzled. Even though the abbot at Shanglin was somewhat protective, he still wasn’t an unreasonable person, and temples taking in orphans is quite standard.
Guangmiao looked embarrassed as he didn’t know either; he couldn’t make such a decision. There’s a dedicated person in the temple responsible for such matters.
If he agreed, he would have to raise the child himself or wait until his master, Fahai, returned to handle it.
Neither of them had raised a child, especially not one still in swaddling clothes; it wouldn’t be manageable.
"So, you came to me hoping Master Jinghui would leave the child in my care?" Lin Miao immediately understood the situation.
"Yes, after thinking it over, I realized you’re the most suitable, Uncle Master," Guangmiao nodded.
Jinghui also understood.
She originally didn’t intend to seek help from Lin Miao again, considering how much he had already assisted her. Having met by chance, he’d already done enough.
But begging again would be overstepping, and exposing the child’s existence could bring trouble to Lin Miao.
The two of them seemed to have had the same thoughts.
