Chapter 365: Law and Eviction
The guards approached the front door of the street’s largest property. With hesitation in her movements, the leading officer raised her fist and knocked against the wood.
"You need to be firmer," said Alexander, leaning against the fence frame with his arms crossed. "It’s not like you’ve never done this before."
"It’s always done in accordance with the law," said one of the guards, shaking her head while avoiding the young man’s gaze.
"Of course, and that’s exactly what you’re doing," said Alexander with a cold smirk. "The law can always take whatever it deems best for the city’s development and security."
A few seconds later, the oak door swung open. A mature, plump woman with refined features peeked out, a look of deep annoyance stamped across her face. Behind her skirts, two younger women—her daughters—peeked out, watching the scene with timidity and curiosity.
"What is the meaning of this banging at such an hour?" said the widow, adjusting a silk nightgown that failed to conceal her generous curves. "I am the lady of this residence. I demand an explanation."
"By order of the mayor’s office, this property and the surrounding lands have been repossessed for immediate commercial use," said the guard, attempting to sound official yet faltering near the end.
"Repossessed?!" shouted the woman, her eyes widening in disbelief. "This is an outrage! My late husband paid taxes on this land for over twenty years! You can’t just throw us onto the street in the middle of the night!"
The two daughters clung to their mother’s arm, visibly frightened by the presence of the guards and the entourage of adventurers surrounding the premises.
"Nobody is talking about throwing you out into the street just like that, ma’am," said Alexander, stepping forward and locking eyes with the widow in total composure. "Let’s just say management has changed hands. And I happen to be an flexible man when it comes to negotiating residency terms."
The widow ran her eyes down Alexander’s body, taking note of his posture and the coolness with which he commanded the city’s own authorities.
"Negotiating?" said the woman, her tone dropping as a faint blush dusted her cheeks beneath the torchlight. "And what could a young man like you possibly want from a widow and her daughters at this hour of the night?"
"There are many ways to settle an eviction debt," said Alexander, closing the distance until standing just inches from her, subtly brushing the silk fabric on her shoulder. "If you three are willing to extend the proper hospitality, we could reach a very mutually beneficial agreement."
The widow narrowed her eyes upon hearing Alexander’s tone, immediately putting the pieces together. Her gaze darted for a second toward the direction of the bar before snapping back to the young man with a look of disdain.
"I see what this is about," said the widow, crossing her arms and thrusting her chest forward to assert authority. "That old man couldn’t handle me the nice way, so he sent his young dog to bark alongside the guards."
"You’re wrong," said Alexander, letting out a short laugh and tilting his head arrogantly. "I’m the old man Zero’s boss, ma’am. So it’s better to say he asked for reinforcements because he didn’t know how to deal with such stubborn women."
The two daughters, who up until that moment had kept hidden behind their mother’s back, peeked out a bit more. They were wearing light nightgowns that clung to their figures, revealing youthful yet well-developed curves that did not go unnoticed by the young man.
Alexander slid his gaze from the mother’s deep cleavage down to the slender legs of the two girls, licking his lips.
"Besides, looking at the size of this property and the lack of a male presence... I’m sure three poor widows must be very, very lonely," said Alexander, dropping his voice to a murmur. "And you could use a little comfort from a real man to better endure these cold nights."
The young women flushed, squeezing their thighs together under Alexander’s devouring stare, while the mother opened her mouth, torn between indignation and the strange heat beginning to pool in her lower belly.
"You are a bastard!" said the woman through gritted teeth.
Her rage and the memories of her late husband briefly triumphed over the sudden itch in her pussy, keeping her sanity intact to fight tooth and nail for the only thing she owned.
"That’s right, I am a bastard," said Alexander, taking another step toward the door and cornering her with his gaze. "I could simply kill the three of you here and take everything by force. The only reason I don’t is because I’m far too kind to beautiful women. However, the same can’t be said for a lady who jacked up the price of her run-down land fifty times over just to bleed a poor old man dry."
The woman froze at the coldness of his words, clutching her robe tightly as she felt the stares of the guards and the adventurers pinned on her.
"It’s the free market!" said the widow, trying to keep her voice steady despite her trembling lip. "This land is mine, and I’ll value it however the hell I want."
"The free market ended the second the mayor handed this territory over to me," said Alexander, a sly smirk spreading across his face. "So now your options are very simple: either you adapt to my terms and show me how accommodating you can be, or you pack your things and hit the street before I lose whatever little patience I have left."
The two daughters looked at their mother with sheer terror in their eyes, clutching her arms as the night’s silence made the threat painfully real.
The widow grit her teeth in utter helplessness. This property was the only memory left of her late husband—the only real man she had ever known in her life, unlike the delicate flowers inhabiting this realm. Her husband had been a powerful, hardworking bull-man of immense strength who, through sheer sweat, had earned a solid reputation and built great wealth.
She knew exactly how that bar operated; it reminded her so much of her man’s dedication that her true motive behind freezing the sales was never about the money, but rather squeezing those men to force them into submission and make them work for her. However, instead of bending, those bastards had brought in their boss—a young man who was far from a delicate flower, proving to be an even more terrifying, dominant, and ruthless beast.
