The Only Cultivator in a World of Hunters

Chapter 13: This System Is Way Too Arrogant

Normally, a system should only be visible to Nexus, right? Yes, but this system was different.

It thought it was far too high-class to hide from other people’s eyes, so it appeared openly in public like this.

Seeing the system, Nexus didn’t look surprised at all, but Bell’s eyes widened in shock.

"Wait, can this thing also be an ability? Wait, shouldn’t you be the only one who can see it? Why do I see everything?"

As a young man who read books and watched some entertainment shows, Bell understood what the strange thing in front of him was.

There had never been any record of someone awakening a system before, so he had always treated it as a joke. He never expected actually to run into one now.

"It’s indeed quite strange, but it’s just a system."

Nexus said it as if he had seen systems before, and as if he didn’t think a system was anything that special.

The system felt looked down on by someone so pathetic, so it immediately spoke up to show off its own greatness.

[I am not one of those weak tourist systems. I am a native system with supreme power that can change the rules of the world.]

[You’re nothing but a weak G-rank master, yet you dare show me such disrespect? If you don’t kneel and apologize, I won’t help you become stronger.]

???

Was this system actually normal? Shouldn’t it be a bit more robotic? Why did it have so much personality? And on top of that, it seemed so... silly.

Even though Bell wasn’t sure whether real systems were like the ones in the novels he had read, he could easily tell that this system had problems.

"Is this system really okay?"

"It is."

Nexus wasn’t particularly surprised to see a system with this much personality, since he had seen plenty before.

For him, systems could also be considered a very unique intelligent species. Low-level systems could reproduce almost without limit, but systems with powerful authority were extremely difficult to form.

But this system was completely different. At first, it was just like a computer system because Nexus didn’t need a system that talked so much.

The only one who could have come up with something like this was Lucifer. He probably thought Nexus’s life was too boring, so he made the system a bit more talkative.

[You two mortals actually dare ignore this great system? I am the number one system in the entire universe! Being able to see me is your honor. Now hurry up and kneel!]

What the hell? Do you even know what you’re saying?

Bell’s face turned red with anger. It was just a system, yet it actually dared to look down on and insult him like this? How could he accept that?

To Bell, a system was nothing more than a highly advanced artificial intelligence combined with some kind of power. It wasn’t even a living being, so what gave it the right to act superior to him?

"You’re asking to die!"

Bell threw a punch straight at the screen floating in the air. His fist, enhanced with wind magic, could even strike intangible beings, instantly shattering the system screen.

Nexus had frustrated Bell to no end, but he couldn’t vent his anger because he wasn’t strong enough to beat him. This system was obviously just one of Nexus’s toys, so of course he didn’t mind punching it.

Bell thought he had put the system in its place, but he was the one left standing there like an idiot.

Dozens of screens appeared in front of him, each displaying a pixelated face sticking out its tongue and mocking him.

[So what if you’re S-rank? No one can destroy me. I am invincible across the universe!]

When the system first spoke, its voice had sounded a little robotic. Now, it had become unbelievably cocky. Just hearing that obnoxious tone was enough to make the veins on Bell’s forehead throb.

"If you’ve got the guts, then come out here and fight me one-on-one. What’s there to be proud of if all you can do is talk?"

Since he couldn’t hit it, Bell could only resort to provoking it. Across the universe, S-rank strength was already close to the peak of the mortal level. He refused to believe that a newly awakened system could create some kind of body stronger than his.

[Hmph, such childish taunts are useless. How could my great power be wasted fighting a snot-nosed brat like you? Go drink your mother’s milk for another thousand years before challenging me.]

"You!"

Bell grabbed at his hair in frustration and even tore his own shirt apart. This was even more infuriating than talking to Nexus earlier.

Nexus might have spoken as if Bell didn’t matter, but at least his flat tone was far better than the system’s unbelievably punchable way of talking.

"System, what can you do?"

Nexus’s voice cut off the pointless argument between Bell and the system.

[Hmph, you still haven’t knelt, yet you expect me to answer? Remember, you’re a G-rank, the biggest loser of humanity in this era. As for me, I am the greatest system in the entire universe. The gap between us is like a galaxy and an ant. What right does a little brat like you, who hasn’t even wiped the snot off his nose, have to act all high and mighty in front of me? You’re just...]

The system kept firing off its "wonderful" words like a machine gun with unlimited ammunition, making even Bell irritated, even though the system wasn’t insulting him this time.

"Is there really no way to shut it up?"

Earlier, Bell had thought the seven-colored card was some incredible ability, but now he wouldn’t take it even if someone gave it to him.

This was clearly nothing but inviting frustration into his life. A system that looked down on its own master? He wouldn’t accept it even if he were paid to.

"It’s simple."

Nexus said indifferently before opening the personal control panel and pressing the "Mute" button. The noisy voice instantly disappeared completely.
