Chapter 82: Peter’s Misunderstanding
White’s reputation was huge. Her die-hard fans could be found across all five continents. If news got out that White had a master now, it would definitely become a worldwide hot search immediately.
Even someone as close to her as Peter couldn’t understand why she would do something like this. Peter didn’t think White needed anyone to teach her in order to become an even better hunter.
"Tell me the truth. Are you planning to switch to another career instead of continuing to be a hunter?"
Even though he asked that, Peter himself didn’t think that situation was possible. He knew White’s temperament very well. If she was like the person he knew, she would never give up being a hunter.
As for White saying that she became someone’s disciple just to get Ziz, Peter believed it even less. Who would believe such a ridiculous reason?
"Are you getting old and starting to lose your mind? Ziz is this adorable, so it’s completely worth it for me to become Nexus’s disciple."
White rolled her eyes at Peter. She thought Peter understood her very well, but she never expected him to act like a stupid old man the moment he saw her cry.
Seeing how stubborn she was, Peter didn’t want to argue with her for the time being. What was more important was the identity of her master.
"Who is Nexus? I don’t remember any hunter above S-rank having that name. I’ve seen that name recently, but it was the name of that unlucky F-rank guy who happened to have the crystal ball expire right when it was his turn."
In this world, whenever an S-rank hunter or above awakened, all the other S-rank hunters and above would sense it. Even though it wasn’t very clear, it was enough to ensure that the total number of high-ranking hunters remained transparent.
The reason no one sensed Nexus’s awakening was because he was a special case. Besides, could a bunch of mortals really sense Nexus?
As the chairman of the hunter association, Peter obviously knew the identities of the highest-ranked hunters very well. Peter’s memory wasn’t so bad that he couldn’t remember the names and ages of every one of them.
"It’s the unlucky guy you mentioned. And he’s G-rank, not F-rank. Bell revised his ability report."
"What’s so special about G-rank or F-rank? Aren’t they both useless?"
It was strange, but there wasn’t much value in this kind of thing, so Peter didn’t bother paying attention to it. He was busy with way too many things, so where would he find the time to think about the antics of the weakest hunters?
"That’s not right..."
Peter subconsciously overlooked Nexus, but immediately remembered that Nexus was White’s master. Moreover, judging from White’s attitude, she had clearly really agreed to become the disciple of someone this weak. This didn’t make any sense at all.
Nexus’s face from the records appeared in Peter’s mind. Young, handsome, decent aura... Peter understood now!
"Wake up, White. Even though you’ve been single for years, you shouldn’t fall in love with a bastard like him. That brat is obviously after your looks and status.
Although I don’t know where he got the guts to toy with the feelings of an S-rank hunter, I’m sure he can’t possibly have no bad intentions toward an absolute beauty with such an extraordinary aura like you. If he doesn’t have even the slightest bad intentions, I’ll walk on my head from now on just to show you."
Hearing Peter’s nonsense again, White rubbed her temple and shook her head. Nexus was after her looks? If one day she became the master and Nexus became the disciple, that might actually make more sense than this.
"I’m not. If I wanted to, a whole crowd of people would line up for me to choose from. I’m just too busy. Besides, Nexus isn’t human. Of course there won’t be any of the ridiculous romance stuff you’re thinking about."
Naturally, being told that she had been single for years made White a little annoyed. She wasn’t stupid; she knew perfectly well that she was beautiful, and she knew perfectly well that many people liked her. But White knew why she existed. She wasn’t born to enjoy those pointless romantic things.
White’s serious expression made Peter seriously think about it. In just an extremely brief moment, his aura suddenly changed one hundred and eighty degrees.
Pink strings tightly wrapped around White, far more numerous than before. This time, Peter was truly serious about capturing her.
"A type of monster that can take over a human’s body? White, don’t blame me. I need to make sure your mind hasn’t been affected."
White stared blankly at Peter’s serious attitude, but thinking about it again, it did make sense. If it wasn’t human, it could be a monster, demon, or angel, all of which existed, but they had never openly come to Earth before. Even though Lailah was an angel, her identity on Earth was human, not an angel.
"Who told you Nexus is a monster? Can’t you wait until I finish talking before acting?"
After being tied up again, White was about to lose her patience. If Peter kept messing everything up, she would really blow up the entire seventy-seventh floor of this skyscraper.
"Sorry, not this time. That harmless monster you’re holding is highly likely to be used to monitor the Hunter Association headquarters. Monsters have never collected intelligence before, but we can’t let our guard down."
Without waiting for White’s permission, Peter controlled a string to stick to Ziz and pulled Ziz into his hand.
The moment he squeezed it, the soft feeling made Peter feel really good. He kept squeezing it over and over, checking whether there was anything suspicious being used for surveillance.
In the end, he didn’t find anything suspicious, but he became more and more addicted to the feeling. He didn’t understand why the more he looked at Ziz, the cuter it seemed.
Besides, it was clearly alive and obediently cooperating like this, so how could it be a monster? Monsters were crazy beings that killed humans. That was common knowledge everyone knew.
"White, I discovered that this thing is very difficult to inspect manually. I’ll keep it for a while to study it carefully."
Peter’s expression was extremely righteous, as if he were talking about work, but that wasn’t enough to fool White. She had been with Peter long enough to understand that he simply wanted to take the pet she had just acquired.
"Give it back to me."
White only said one short sentence, but her aura surged, causing several nearby floors to shake. Daring to steal Ziz from her? Even Peter deserved a beating.
